Today I had the pleasure of helping 2 y old beautiful sweet Bowie & his owner by giving some insights about a dog’s way of thinking & why he was reactive sometimes.
Together with some extra tips, I am sure, they are on their way to build an even better relationship with Bowie, without any anxiety on their walks.🥰

The other day I had a session with an 8 months old rescued dog Pippa & her owners. One of their main challenges was having better control of Pippa while being off leash. During our walk I gave some insights on how a dog brain works & how understanding this, is helpful to get a better connection with her, hence a better recall. Now they are on the right track to have a fantastic bond with her thanks to their consistency, patience & love. 🤍

28/01/2022

Any behaviour that a dog is doing, they think that's what they are supposed to
be doing and what you want them to be doing!
Because dogs don't have the level of self awareness to have the concept of what's
right or what's wrong. Dogs only do what they think they are supposed to do,
based on the environment and the consequences that create their feelings and their
behaviour.
So when a dog jumps up to you, first of all "It's not your fault!", but unintentionally
that's what you are teaching your dog that's what you want from them. So if you
want them to stop with that, it's not about correcting them from jumping up, it's not
about rewarding them for NOT jumping up! It's about figuring out what it is that you
are doing to create the feeling in them that they should be so excited and that it
should be expressed through jumping up.
This is one example that 100% can be resolved simply trough an owner changing
their own behaviour! Through being aware of their dog's feelings, which is creating
the behaviour, and through changing their own behaviour to influence how their dog
feels and to shape how their dog behaves.

In almost every situation a dog's unwanted behaviour is actually unintentionally created by their handlers. So in order to resolve these unwanted behaviours (due to a corresponding feeling) it's up to the owner to realise their role in this; to take accountability and take responsibility for it and change their own behaviour in order
to shape their dogs behaviour for the better.

There is a variety of different methods of training that sometimes even conflict
with other methods > not only one way to train a dog, but a lot of different
methods will work! As a dog owner, it's up to you to pick a method that
resonates with you and what you feel you can work with.
When you understand behaviour, you know that behaviour doesn't happen for no reason. It always happens because of a corresponding FEELING.
E.g. as a human : if you are laughing, you're probably happy. If you are crying,
you're probably sad. If you are yelling, you're probably stressed. If you are happy, you are probably not gonna yell etc. ...
Dogs only behave in dangerous and disruptive ways due to unresolved feelings of stress. A dog that is well adjusted is not going to be randomly aggressive. NO DOG IS AGGRESSIVE! (except for those with a neurological disorder or brain damage). The vast majority of dogs who are displaying aggression are stressed. Like most humans.
Every unwanted behaviour only comes from too much stress! So when you focus on how a dog FEELS in stead of how he's acting/behaving, that's the way to get to the root cause of a behaviour! If you understand "my dog is behaving aggressively, because he is stressed, you
are more able to take accountability for how your dog is FEELING and when vou
can cultivate a feeling of "SAFETY, TRUST and CONFIDENCE" for your dog, they
are no longer gonna display those unwanted behaviours!
If you only were to focus on the behaviour itself, you could be missing what's causing the behaviour! You may be able to suppress the symptoms of the
aggression by only focusing on the behaviour, but you're not gonna be able to heal the real cause!
Focusing on how your dog FEELS versus how he is behaving gives you the ability
to see things from your dogs point of view and understand WHY they are behaving
the way they are. Which is gonna allow you to affect them on a deeper level of
emotions and feelings versus the surface symptoms of their behaviour.
