There is a variety of different methods of training that sometimes even conflict
with other methods > not only one way to train a dog, but a lot of different
methods will work! As a dog owner, it's up to you to pick a method that
resonates with you and what you feel you can work with.
When you understand behaviour, you know that behaviour doesn't happen for no reason. It always happens because of a corresponding FEELING.
E.g. as a human : if you are laughing, you're probably happy. If you are crying,
you're probably sad. If you are yelling, you're probably stressed. If you are happy, you are probably not gonna yell etc. ...
Dogs only behave in dangerous and disruptive ways due to unresolved feelings of stress. A dog that is well adjusted is not going to be randomly aggressive. NO DOG IS AGGRESSIVE! (except for those with a neurological disorder or brain damage). The vast majority of dogs who are displaying aggression are stressed. Like most humans.
Every unwanted behaviour only comes from too much stress! So when you focus on how a dog FEELS in stead of how he's acting/behaving, that's the way to get to the root cause of a behaviour! If you understand "my dog is behaving aggressively, because he is stressed, you
are more able to take accountability for how your dog is FEELING and when vou
can cultivate a feeling of "SAFETY, TRUST and CONFIDENCE" for your dog, they
are no longer gonna display those unwanted behaviours!
If you only were to focus on the behaviour itself, you could be missing what's causing the behaviour! You may be able to suppress the symptoms of the
aggression by only focusing on the behaviour, but you're not gonna be able to heal the real cause!
Focusing on how your dog FEELS versus how he is behaving gives you the ability
to see things from your dogs point of view and understand WHY they are behaving
the way they are. Which is gonna allow you to affect them on a deeper level of
emotions and feelings versus the surface symptoms of their behaviour.
