For the last month Adam and I have been wondering why our 2 new hens haven’t started laying yet. Surely they are old enough that they should be able to do so. Madilyn and I have taken lots of walks around the yard searching and searching to see if they had a secret place where they were laying. We never found anything… until today! I’ve been feeling under the weather so Adam took Madilyn outside to play while I laid down for a bit. Not long after they went outside Adam calls me. In a very serious voice “Are you able to come out here? There’s something I need to show you.” So I hurry outside, in my pjs, no shoes, worried what I would find when I got to them. 12 beautiful blue eggs! A whole dozen. She has been laying behind our air conditioner for about 2 weeks. Oofda 🤭 well, we’re glad she’s laying and not a broken hen 😆 now to figure out how to get her to lay where she’s supposed to. Silly Phylis 🙄

This adult beverage was George Washington’s favorite! Home grown cherries picked this spring covered with brandy 🥃 now we let it sit until Christmas! So excited to try this new treat!

Recipe
2 cups cherries
1/3 cup sugar
1 cup your choice of liquor
Let sit at least 3 months shaking once a week. Enjoy!

Homemade butter 🧈 this was too easy!! 1 container of heavy whipping cream and a pinch 🤏 of salt 🧂! Turn your mixer on high and watch it change! That simple! At the end I saved the buttermilk for another recipe and then roses the butter in cold water until the water was no longer milky. So delicious! Now I’m going to make some with different herbs!.

Made butter today 🧈best part we also have buttermilk now to explore new recipes 💗

Gifts from the garden today! We have been so busy taking care of the baby we have neglected the garden a bit. Definitely didn’t think all this was out there waiting to be harvested. So grateful that even though we haven’t spent as much time as we’d like to caring for the plants that they still are caring for us! Now time for cowboy candied jalapeños, zucchini bread and pepper jelly! 💗🌱👩🏽‍🌾👶🏼👨🏽‍🌾💗

Garden goodies 🫑 Turned this into “stir fry” dinner! Paired with chicken breast and garlic aioli on top of rice. So delicious!

Zucchini time!! We will have lots and lots if you’d would like some. Yellow and green! All organic, no fertilizer or pesticides. Just the way Mother Nature wants them! We companion plant with herbs and flowers to improve yield and deter pests. $1 each 👩🏽‍🌾👶🏼👨🏽‍🌾💗 pick up or look for us at the Annandale Swappers Meet some Saturdays.

Small but beautiful gifts from the garden today 💗🙏

Finally had the chance to tend to our tomatoes today while Madilyn napped 🍅 all trimmed and weeds pulled. Now to sit back and wait for the fruits of our labor 😋 can’t wait for all the salsa, spaghetti sauce, and chili we will can!

Best strawberry lemonade we’ve ever had! We will have more strawberry syrup available soon for you to enjoy! Hope everyone had a safe and happy fourth!
