Hello world, I’m joy… a chocolate/tan dapple miniature dachshund 🤍 !!! I was born on November 6, 2024, which makes me just a baby at 8 weeks and 2 days old. I was born in Rochester, NY but now I’m on the road to something called an “Austin, TX”. No clue what that is, but apparently, it’s gonna be my home? Sounds exciting! 😋 It’s been around 20 hours since I got my humans, and wow, God really outdid Himself—they’re the best snuggle buddies ever. 🙌 Follow along to see all the love and adventures coming my way! 🫶🏻

We've always struggled to get Rolo to accept his nails being trimmed, despite doing lots of work with him trying to get him comfortable with it, it has always stressed him out.
His back paws naturally grind down on their own, smaller breeds tend to not carry enough weight to be able to grind their nails down naturally through walks alone and yes he does go for regular daily walks! He has also a dachshund who were bred for hunting and digging, his front nails grow longer, quicker and are harder than most other breeds!
He does this once a month for 5 minutes maximum although on months where they are a bit longer we usually do 8 mins. we always supervise and always check his pads before and after each use to make sure there is now dryness or damage..if his paws are cracked beforehand we don't use it and instead, use a balm to moisturise his paws.
This is when we found this, a nail scratch board for dogs(we purchased this from Amazon)! It's so easy to use and Rolo gets excited every time it comes out. We hide treats inside the little treat box and he scratches away. He does a minute of scratching before we lift the box so he can get a treat then we repeat the process for 5 minutes, sometimes up to 8 mins if they are real long
Whilst this doesn't get them to a length that clipping the nails would, it does reduce them enough to reduce the risk of being uncomfortable with nails that are too long with the added bonus of him not being stressed out by the process of clipping.
It's so important that nail care is provided for our dogs, to prevent accidents or injuries from nails that could get caught in carpets or soft furnishings, joint issues, pain, discomfort and to promote a healthy posture.
