About the cause!
The Burn's Unit at The Children's Hospital at Westmead is the Pediatric arm of the NSW Severe Burns Service and is the referral centre for all major pediatric burns in NSW. The Burns Unit is 002 Station of Fire & Rescue NSW and is close to the heart of all FRNSW Firefighters.
The Unit consists of a total of eight beds comprising of two Pediatric Intensive Care Unit beds and six inpatient bedson the Clubbe Ward. Approximately one thousand children a year undergo treatment in the unit, two hundred as inpatients on the Clubbe Warde and eight hundred as out patients in the Fire & Rescue NSW Burns and Plastic Surgery Treatment Centre.
All aspects of acute burns care and reconstructive surgery are undetaken on the unit as well as programs for physical, psychological and social rehabilitation for children and their families after discharge. The unit conducts an active research program through The Children's Hospital Burns Research Institute, and acts in concert with the Child Safety Centre and Kidsafe to promote burns education.
