Nitram Greyhound Racing Greyhound Racing

Well I had an interesting day to say the least
Had a really good conversation for most of the morning with the GAP at Wyee. Been some changes and new staff. They were extremely helpful. Don’t think I can get all my greyhounds into the program but several have a chance of being excepted really soon, with others having assessments done shortly.
Think it came down to the fact I treat my greyhounds as pets and most are house trained.

What do Greyhounds race on….

Loam (in geology and soil science) is soil composed mostly of sand (particle size > 63 micrometres (0.0025 in)), silt (particle size > 2 micrometres (7.9×10−5 in)), and a smaller amount of clay (particle size < 2 micrometres (7.9×10−5 in)).[citation needed] By weight, its mineral composition is about 50–30–20% concentration of sand–silt–clay, respectively.[1] These proportions can vary to a degree.

Loam surface replaced the old grass tracks due to safety issues. Grass produced faster racing but the hard grass surface lead to many injuries. Whilst grass caused toe and hock injuries, there was less muscle injury. There very few grass tracks left in Australia and non in the UK. Australia runs with a harder loam surface than other countries. UK runs a soft sand surface, there is talk of Australia adopting this in the future to give greater welfare to the Greyhound.

Leaders Unite and Commit to Positive Steps

Revitalisation, reaffirmation and revolution – they are the positive steps those who gathered for this week’s New South Wales Greyhound Industry Leaders Summit agreed to take in union to steer the sport towards a more prosperous future.

Based upon this success, those at the summit agreed to a further roll out of double-arm lures and an expansion of the preferred box draw trial. In addition, the trial of an innovative soft sand profile as a new track base was discussed.

“This leader’s summit is the second consultation event held this year. We’re looking forward to a big year in track safety, prizemoney and rehoming. It is fantastic to get direct feedback from and alignment with participants and stakeholders. Thank you to all who attended.”, Mr Rob Macaulay, Chief Executive Officer of Greyhound Racing NSW, said.

Our little blue girl Bella is 3 today - started your career off good but developed wrist problems. After many visits to the vets it looked like your career may be over. But late last year we started biomechanical medicine, which has shown a marked improvement in your wrists. Hopefully you’ll make it back to the track soon.

Can’t believe you’ve been with us almost 3 years now. Our little 22kg girl has been through some tuff times. Fractured a hock at Taree, got flattened at The Gardens 400m and tumbled across the track (no 400’s there for you), got bitten on the back. You have suffered recurring lumbar soreness that we work on continuously. But we can’t take away your love of racing and hopefully we keep you fit and sound to continue on another 3 years. Unless you tell us you’ve had enough. We don’t care if you run last as long as you happy doing what you’re doing and stay safe. ❤️

Friday Afternoon at The Gardens 🥉

Race 2 M2/3 Masters - Cawbourne Cooper was a bit fitter from her Tuesday race and finished 3rd today. Poor old girl has to carry the rest of the kennel.
🐺 Locky’s Eagle wasn’t walking right, so saw the OTV before kennelling and both agreed he shouldn’t race today.

Grafton Club has used their Ladbrokes sponsorship money to pay prize money of $40 unplaced down to 8th place. Plus your travel money. This started on January 1 and brings them in line with QLD who have been paying down to 8th place for a long time now, but at more money. This prize money increase has nothing to do with GRNSW, it comes out of Grafton’s own pocket at $1920 per race meeting.

GRAFTON Club is winning a host of devotees by paying additional prizemoney through to eighth place. Club “skipper”, John Corrigan, said the payments were putting an extra $1920 back into the industry on a 12-race program. “We got a wonderful sponsorship from Ladbrokes and decided part of that ...

A wet and cooler night at Gosford Greyhounds☔️

🐺Race 3 Locky’s Eagle- got a decent start but it was down hill from there. Tried something different but it didn’t work and today he has a sore shoulder, hopefully it can be fixed by Friday. Good thing was Gosford Greyhounds and BettaBix gave all Greyhounds that finished last a free box of 4x2 biscuits
🐺Race 10 Nitram Roxy - was putting in a good race running 3rd but went wide down the back letting the #7 get under her in the turn. They came together and Roxy lost footing then the #3 ran into her…. missed out by a nose on getting another box of biscuits.
🐺Race 12 Cawbourne Cooper - wasn’t expecting to much from her tonight as she hasn’t done anything but lay around the house. She was so excited to be back at the track and finished 4th and is now back to M3 Masters.

Three off to Gosford tomorrow night
🐺Race 3 is Bruiser - he turned 4 last Saturday and he still has to race Grade 5 as there is no M3 masters races until next month, he could run a M2/3 masters but that’s like being in a FFA race. He does like Gosford track but the #6 should have this race won.
🐺Race 10 is Roxy - she is in a Pathways and the #4 is now scratched. She has to get a fast clean start to have any chance of placing.
🐺Race 12 is Cooper - she is in a M1/2/3 masters. Needs to finish out of the placings to drop back to M3 masters races where she’s got more chance of placing. There is only six greyhounds in the race but their all decent chasers.

Race 1 at The Gardens Saturday night
Lids came up with the #7 turning hard left colliding with the #6 & #5, at the same time the #3 went right hitting the #4. Sybil #5 was squashed between both these. It was a messy race with the #4 colliding with the #7 in the turn. The the #8 caught the #2 entering the front straight, the #8 turned its head at the #2 and they both went extremely wide on the front straight, with the #8 going on to win. Sybil didn’t run home as fast as she can do, only 12.16.

Three raced at The Gardens Friday afternoon
🐺Roxy in R9 515m was going good but when the #5 came across the front of her entering the first turn she borked. She put in the 2nd fastest run home of the race.
🐺Bruiser in R6 400m missed the start and then collided with the #4 in the first turn.
🐺Casper in R8 400m Masters managed to run the race but still isn’t race fit.

One of the after signs of a snake bite on a dog is the lose of hair with pale skin. Yesterday out of nowhere an area that looked like had been shaved appeared on his neck. Have been searching all over his left front leg for signs of a bite because he is in pain and won’t put that leg on the ground. But the bite was on the right side of his neck. Seems to have hurt the leg in the fight with the snake.

Results from Australia Day at The Gardens 🇦🇺
🐺Roxy finished 7th, came out the boxes and went straight across to rail, running one of her worst first section times. The main thing is she made it around safe.
🐺Bruiser got a woeful start to be last out the boxes. He pushed through up the rail and ran home strong to finish in the money 4th. Slightly slower than is his one and only ever start over this distance a couple of years ago.

That was probably Bruiser last Grade 5 race against young greyhounds as he turns 4 next week & Roxy is only a few weeks behind him.

Well, thought almost $7,000 was a lot of money saving Ryle’s life from his snake bites.
But today I found out the costs of treatments I require for my two different illnesses. One costs $68,651 annually for treatment (first visit is an infusion then an injection every 8 weeks) and the other is $115,800 per course of treatment.

Roxy raced at Maitland tonight
Got a good start and lead almost to the 1st section timer. The #5 came across her where she came together with the #2. There was a heap of push & shoving into the turn and Roxy ended up way back in 7th. Ran home well to finish 6th.
To get a start in this pathways she had 73 points but this 6th placing will change her points to 78 and make it hard for her to get into a Pathways next week. The last greyhound to get a start this week was the #5 which had 78 points.
➡️Maitland Greyhound track has had to cancel trials (Saturday & Wednesday) due to water issues. After reading the Stewards report, should Maitland really have conducted a race meeting Monday night? There was some major injuries.

Old Ryle (Harper’s Boy) came home Friday afternoon. CK blood level was high & increasing, hopefully it will show signs of decrease next week. They seemed to think because of his fitness and muscle volume it would take longer to get the venom out of his muscles. His muscle tremors have stopped but seems to be cramping now in his left front leg.
Thanks to Michael Brady from Ladbrokes Gardens for getting us help from GRNSW greyhound care scheme.

Well Roxy is off to Maitland Monday night in a 400m Pathways. Bruiser had to many points to make the Pathways, so he wasn’t nominated to race there, plus he was a bit sore after Gosford.
💥Last time Roxy raced at Maitland was almost 12 months ago where she finished 3rd in a Pathways.
➡️Never say this but The Graders made it possible for Roxy to qualify for this race. She had to finish last at Gosford to drop enough points. The graders stuck her in box 6 in a hard race and with me boxing her she finished last at Gosford.
🔲Further to the Gosford results Tuesday - Bruiser got a decent start, he was on the rail but the #3 pushed him into the rail and he dropped back and Roxy ran up the back of him. There was no chance of them catching up from there. Bruiser had soreness in his left front leg.
Casper was in the Masters. Looked to get a decent start but just after that his front wrist injury returned and injured his right hamstring and finished a distant last. Think that is it for him now.
