Good advice.

You've found an adorable cat online and you're excited about the possibility of bringing them home 😍

Before sending any payment - STOP and remember, it's important to take a step back and ensure that the proper checks are made to verify the legitimacy of the seller before proceeding.

Your breeder/seller should be able to:
🐾 Arrange an in person visit for you to see the kitten and it's mother
🐾 Provide a physical registration card, breeder pedigree (family tree) and vaccination record
🐾 Advise on diet, worming/fleaing, neutering, grooming (per breed)
🐾 Advise on any DNA testing completed or any issues prevalent in the breed

If you're still unsure, you can email [email protected] with your breeder's name, contact details and/or address, and we can confirm or deny their details being on the GCCF system.

Always be cautious when finding Pedigree Cats online! 🐱

You've just bought a beautiful new kitten, and you've been given a registration card to transfer the ownership - but why should you transfer? 🤔

⭐️ Being part of the GCCF connects you with a network of other cat breeders, owners, and enthusiasts.
⭐️ Your documents are a record of your cat's pedigree status, and should be kept accurate for your records and the GCCF's record accuracy.
⭐️ Members of the GCCF are eligible to participate in cat shows. Shows can be a fun way to showcase your cats and gain titles!
⭐️ The GCCF provides various resources, including guidance on breeding standards, health testing, breed-specific concerns, general welfare and more!
⭐️ You will contribute to upholding high welfare standards in the breeding and care of cats. The GCCF works to prevent unethical breeding practices, promote animal welfare, and ensure cats are raised in safe, healthy environments.

If you're someone who is passionate about responsible breeding, preserving breed standards, or simply passionate about cats, the GCCF is for you!

Not sure how to process your transfer? Email us at [email protected] and one of our team will help you out! 💭

WARNING FOR CAT OWNERS

With winter well underway please be aware of the danger of anti freeze to your pet. Even licking paws after walking through a spillage on your garage floor can be fatal.

Please read the article issued by RCVS/CP below for more info.

“Keep cats away from snow globes, Cats Protection warns:

Consuming ethlylene glycol can cause cats to suffer kidney failure or death.Snow globes contain anti-freeze, which is lethal to cats.

Cats Protection has warned cat owners to keep their pets away from snow globes this Christmas.

The charity says that the liquid in the ornaments, which are attractive to cats, can be lethal if ingested.

Snow globes contain ethylene glycol, also known as anti-freeze, which is used to create the effect of snow falling. However, if ingested by cats, it can cause kidney failure and death.

Cats may consume ethylene glycol either from drinking it directly or licking it off their fur when grooming.

Even the slightest crack can cause ethylene glycol to seep out of a snow globe and Cats Protection is asking cat owners to place snow globes far away from their pets.

Ethylene glycol is also found in car screenwashes and de-icer sprays, and so motorists are also asked to be vigilant. Motorists should clean up any spillages after use or consider using options without anti-freeze.

Spillages of anti-freeze can often cause the death of outdoor cats, as with the case of Nelson.

After going outside on a cold day, Nelson returned to his home seeming unstable. He lost his footing when he ran in the kitchen and landed on his left side.

Following his fall, Nelson was clearly struggling to get back up. He appeared to be in shock, with his eyes wide open and his pupils large.

Nelson was carried to the sofa where he fell asleep, but he did not appear to be any better when he woke up. On veterinary advice, Nelson was rushed into surgery.

He went into acute renal failure and later had to be euthanised.

Alison Richards, chief veterinary officer for Cats Protection, said: “We would urge everyone to take great care with any products containing anti-freeze. It is so devastating to lose a pet, especially when it can be so easily avoided.

“Store anti-freeze products well away from cats and supervise your cat if they want to play with any other sorts of Christmas decorations so that they don’t swallow or get injured by glass, metal or plastic.”

Breeder Alert!

Maximum age for breeding queens...

Our October council report is now live on our website! 🔍

This report speaks about important updates to policies, elections, The Supreme and much more.

We would like to draw attention to our new 🚨 BREEDER ALERT 🚨 -

An upper age limit has been set for breeding females. Most queens (almost 99%) have been retired from breeding by their 8th birthday. It was agreed that this should be fixed as the limit except for exceptional circumstances. Breeders will be able to ask the Board for dispensation with a brief explanation of why the female is still required for breeding and a statement of her breeding history. This will give another two years taking the queen to her tenth birthday as the absolute limit. It was agreed that by the time of the next meeting there would have been a review of the breeding age for stud cats. There were comments that the lifestyle of some breeding males was not ideal.

Hello Chaps!

I thought as some of you are not GCCF Council delegates, you might want to keep yourselves up to date with what went on at Council in June.

The BLH had their request for the Gems codes to be included for the variant Bi Colour Group, 01, 02, 03. So the "shorthairs" in these patterns can be shown in with BSH's.

This is a report, not minutes, by Jen Lacey, done in her own time.
