Chapter 5. Change your thinking. ‘I recently trawled through some Dog Pro Facebook groups to see what people were discussing, and menopause was often mentioned. Talk of feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, unhappy and bewildered can up alarmingly often. Women pushing themselves to do four daily dog walks, women grooming 20 dogs a day, women taking on barking dogs for home boarding who refuse to sleep through the night and saying they don’t know how long they can go on like this’. I can really sympathise - I too have felt like that in the past. There are solutions. 💚

This time of year can be really stressful for Dog Professionals, particularly for Dog Groomers. I owned a very busy salon for nearly 20 years so I have a deep understanding of how tiring it can be trying to fit every dog on the books into 3 weeks of time. I had a team of staff and we used to do three shifts starting at 8.30 am, 1 pm and 5 pm. Sometimes we didn’t get home until gone 11 pm. It’s hard physically on our bodies and mentally exhausting as we keep our patience and kindness in check even when some dogs are trying to bite us. When we hit peri-menopause things can get even harder. I feel your pain as I have been there too. Things can get better though with different choices and changes moving forward. Make 2025 your year to find out how.
