We believe in 2nd Chances. Dogs like Courage are the reason we work so hard to make those chances a possibility. If you believe every soul should have the chance to change, grow and experience a life worth living please support our biggest fundraiser of the year Give Big Kern!

Your donation means we can continue helping these forgotten lives. Lives whose only hope is the kindness of others. If our rescue mission speaks to you please give so we can continue our efforts into 2024.

So many great videos in need of foster and adoption at marleysmutts.org!

03/08/2024

As soon as we open up a few spots we’re filling them just as quickly. Sometimes we don’t know if the public understands how big the need is right now. Our shelters are drowning!!! Moms and babies are dying and senior dogs don’t stand a chance! So that’s exactly what we pulled when a couple of spots became available at our rescue ranch and in foster care.Dolly quickly settled into the ranch and within a few days welcomed her puppies and Beauty has gone into foster care with Conner our ranch operations manager. These lives were saved because someone had room and said yes. Just think how many more could be saved if a few more humans decided to help…

When their world comes tumbling down and they have nowhere to turn, we are here to build them back up and give hope! Brooksy came to us severely neglected with a life threatening case of mange. We’ve been treating every day with meds, medicated baths and coconut oil. His personality is beginning to shine through and he’s in great spirits. Most of all, the inflammation in all his joints and tissue is subsiding and he’s becoming more of a “dog”. Thank you for rallying around this boy and giving us the resources we need to care for him. He should be up for adoption in a month or two, but applications can be submitted at marleysmutts.org. Have a great day, everybody! Hope to see some of you at the ranch soon! Much love!

FOSTER! FOSTER! FOSTER!

We keep saying it but that’s because it works! Fostering saves lives and there’s so many ways you can foster and help give these lives a chance!

We need the following foster situations:

-short term fosters for transport dogs (this gets the dog out of the shelter and safe while they wait for their flight). This also frees up shelter space for incoming dogs. Typical time commitment 1-2 weeks

-weekend fosters. Fosters are human and have lives outside of fostering. Weekend fosters give current fosters a safe place to stay while the primary foster is out of town. Typical time commitment 2-4 days

-senior fosters. Love the seniors? There are tons in the shelter with minimal opportunities to get out. Fosters give them a chance to exit the shelter, go into rescue and have the time needed to find an adoptive home. Typical time commitment 2-6 months

-large dog fosters. Large and medium size dogs are the most at risk in our shelter system. They have the least options for shelter exit and are the most frequently euthanized in shelters. By fostering a medium or large dog you are truly saving a life! Typical time commitment 2-4 months

-small dog fosters. Want to help but can’t do the big guys? There are lots of small dogs also needing out of the shelter. Typical time commitment 2-3 months

-puppy fosters. Some people just love puppies and our shelters are full of them! Want to help an entire family? We can find you one and puppies are soooo much fun! Typical time commitment 2-4 months

There are so many ways to help. Just head to the linktree on our bio, click “Foster” and fill out that application!

Rescue dogs work with incarcerated girls to rehab one another!

Volunteering at Marley’s Mutts!

02/08/2024

We get a lot of requests to help dogs. Hundreds of requests every single week. It can be very overwhelming at times but sometimes there’s a pup so special we just know if we work hard enough we can find them the help they need. So here goes….This sweet 10 week old St. Bernard is in desperate need of a committed foster or a rescue who can provide for her needs. She has nerve damage to her back and her current family isn’t equipped to care for her long term or provide for her medical and rehabilitative care. It’s suspected that the mother dog accidently injured the puppy when she was 3-4 weeks old. We can not bring her into our rescue without a seriously committed foster. Our ranch is beyond full and a puppy with her needs should have more one on one attention than our ranch can provide. We do not know if she will regain her mobility and she’s a giant breed dog. If you are serious about fostering and live in Kern or Los Angeles counties please head to the linktree in our bio, click “Foster” and apply. If you are a 501c rescue with either breed or wheelie pup experience and can give this baby what she needs to thrive please reach out via messenger. Our goal is to get this sweet girl the help she needs so she can have the amazing life she’s destined to have. We know the right placement is out there we just need to find it and you can help ❤️

Tonight we are celebrating 15 years of ! What a ride it has been! Thousands of dogs saved; 10’s of thousands of therapy hours administered; many community programs developed to help provide hope and opportunity for abandoned pets and others incarcerated people! Hope to see some of you this evening at the Crystal Palace!

We have an amazing group of volunteers both human and canine alike who are in the community 7 days a week making a difference. They use the power of the human/canine bond to not only provide therapeutic services but to provide humane education to our youngest generation. These individuals GIVE! What they give is from the heart and such an integral part of the bigger picture in animal welfare. If you haven’t already take a minute to send our miracle mutts therapy dogs some love and check out everything they’re doing to be apart of the solution ❤️

Want a lover? That’s exactly what you’d be getting with Wynonna! She loves cats, dogs (although she does prefer calm dogs) and of course she loves people. She so wants to be your very best friend. She wants to be the little shadow that follows you from room to room. She wants to hang out with you no matter where you choose to hang out and she wants to gaze up into your face with her big brown eyes. She’ll love you no matter what and that kind of devotion makes it even sadder this poor sweet girl almost didn’t make it out of the shelter. Our county shelter staff saw how amazing this girl was too. They held her for almost 2 months hoping she’d get adopted. No one wants to euthanize such a nice dog but the longer she stayed her time was running out. And then Wynonna’s luck changed. One of our foster families said yes and Wynonna got her 2nd Chance. Wynonna is thriving in a home environment. It’s obvious she was a house dog before. She’s house trained and non destructive. Really her only goal in life is to be with her human and she’s not even picky with who that human is. She loves everyone. If you’ve been looking for a great dog who will love you and everyone else please consider giving Wynonna the family she’s always wanted. She’s waited far too long already.

A couple weeks ago, thanks to , we were able to bring horses into Tehachapi State Prison! It was one of the greatest experiences we’ve ever had in there. Most of the men on that yard haven’t seen a horse a many years, even decades. The horses are an emotional mirror and can teach a lot about energy and trust. We’d like to have them visit every round, but we need your help! Please consider giving today to help us continue to provide that valuable, therapeutic experiences!

Ok all you cat friendly houses you’re going to want to meet this sweet girl…..Meet Kenya! Kenya is amazing with her feline friends. We frequently get asked if our dogs are cat friendly and for many the answer is no but Kenya absolutely is. We hope those with cats who are looking to adopt the perfect dog will consider Kenya. What they’ll be getting isn’t just a cat friendly dog. They’ll be getting the sweetest, chillest pittie ever!!!! Kenya is a total love bug. Like roll over on her back and give her all the belly rubs love bug. She lives for human interaction and that makes it so much harder to understand how she ended up at the shelter. Kenya was picked up as a stray by the county shelter covered in fleas, ticks and foxtails. She actually had surgery to remove multiple foxtails from her a**l glands. Sadly no one came for sweet Kenya and she was lingering in the shelter environment. With her breed lingering almost always guarantees getting added to the euthanasia list so when one of our amazing fosters said yes Kenya got her big break! Cat friendly isn’t Kenya’s only attribute. This girl is so incredibly chill. There’s nothing high energy about her and she’s happiest hanging on the couch with her people. Shes absolutely a lapdog, all 60lbs of her, and she’s ready to smother you with every bit of affection your heart can handle. Kenya prefers other non confrontational easy going dogs and wouldn’t do well with pushy high energy pups. Shes amazing on leash and doesn’t have any big exercise needs. Basically she’s an easy and sweet girl hoping to finally get noticed and finally have her chance at an adoptive home.

Big Ole Ben is blind and deaf. His world is closing in on him and just when he needed his people the most, they left him to die. In his case, when the shelter contacted his patents to say he’d been picked up, they simply said “we’re tired of him: put him to sleep”. Shelter staff didn’t put him to sleep and instead called us. Now he’s safe and sound and will be one of the founding seniors for our retirement home!

Intervertebral Disc Disease is a gradual degenerative process that affects the spinal cord of a dog over a period of time. Something as every day as a jump up onto the sofa could damage a disc that has been weakened by IVDD, and trigger acute and painful symptoms of the disease.

Do you know some early warning signs of IVDD (intervertebral disc disease) in dogs?
💠 Pain in neck or back regions
💠 Unwillingness to walk
💠 Knuckling of paws
