**Winona Police Department’s K9 Delta to get donation of body armor

Winona Police Department’s K9 Delta will receive a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K9 Delta’s vest is sponsored by the National Police Association and will be embroidered with the sentiment “Gifted by NationalPolice.org”. Delivery is expected within eight to ten weeks.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., established in 2009, is a 501(c)(3) charity whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. This potentially lifesaving body armor for four-legged K9 officers is U.S. made, custom fitted, and NIJ certified. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has provided over 5,435 vests to K9s in all 50 states at a value of $6.9 million, made possible by both private and corporate donations.

The program is open to U.S. dogs that are at least 20 months old and actively employed and certified with law enforcement or related agencies. K9s with expired vests are also eligible to participate. There are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s throughout the United States.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. accepts tax-deductible contributions in any amount, while a single donation of $985 will sponsor one vest. Each vest has a value of $1800.00, weighs an average of 4-5 lb., and comes with a five-year warranty. For more information, or to learn about volunteer opportunities, please call 508-824-6978. Rather than socialize your dogs, habituate them. They don't need everyone to pet them or be smelled by other dogs. Habituating them means they pay no attention to noises, people or objects around them. They are ultimately confident in their skin and the world they walk in.

Flexibility and adaptability are important skills for dog trainers because they need to be able to adjust their methods based on the individual dog's needs. Complex behaviors demand different approaches all the way to the finished result. What worked on one part may be the exact opposite on a secondary part. Duration, distance , distraction and diversity. All of these things will challenge the dog and training the dog to a react in a specific way you will need to train them through each phase of these things. A dog can down stay when your standing in front of him but can he do it when your across the room? When your 50' away? When your sleeping? Or will he get up and wander? Will he do it when someone is knocking on your door? Each phase of this behavior will take different training tactics to proof the dog so that he will be consistent in his behaviors.

Who doesn't love a good chicken foot to chew on. RAW chicken feet have both meat and bone and help clean teeth. RAW bone IS GOOD for your dog and RAW chicken feet or backs are a good way to add calcium to the diet. Count it's weight towards the daily ration or add it as a treat.
