I know I smiled here but this is my most dreaded part of microgreens! Washing trays. In the winter I have to…
🫧Dump the spent trays in the compost
🫧Let the trays dry out inside so the dirt is easier to scrape off
🫧Scrape and dust the trays off outside
🫧And finally bring them back inside to be washed

☀️In summer it’s just hose them off outside then wash them.

It’s a lot of bringing the trays outside then inside and extra steps. I’ve procrastinated and stockpiled all winter in hopes of making it to spring without having to clean trays in the winter but I am a little short of spring.

I’m smiling in this picture though because in terms of “farm” chores i guess this isn’t too bad. It’s all about perspective! Hope you see the rest of winter as a time to rest and as a stepping stone to spring, and we are almost there! 💚

The third picture that looks like brownies- is the start of my seeds 🎉🌱

I got a soil blocker for Christmas (thanks to Rob) that helps make these soil blocks. The soil blocks will replace the need for plastic seed starting trays and hopefully produce healthier seedlings. Looking forward to putting this to more use as I start more veggie and flower seedlings in the upcoming months.

I encourage you to grow something new this year too and tell me what you grow! One of the cool things about gardening is the community it creates ✨ Wishing you a great start to this year!

Here’s a snapshot of my indoor garden this week!

Lots of trays of healthy, delicious microgreens for the farmers’ market this Saturday 10/7 in South Lyon. 9-2 o’clock.

This will be my second to last market for the season. One more market on 10/21. 🌱

You have to try these eggs Rob came up with. We’ve been eating eggs like this for weeks and I don’t know if we’ll ever go back to just salt and pepper again!!
Eggs over medium seasoned with:
Chipotle powder
Everything bagel seasoning
Garlic powder
Red pepper flakes

Add arugula microgreens, melt on some cheddar cheese and serve on toast. Voila!

Loved bringing these edible flowers to the market last weekend. They are French marigolds, grown from seed and planted outside in my garden. They change color as the weather warms up. They are so pretty! Have you ever tried an edible flower?

Brainstorming for 2023!

So here’s to trying new things and the journey along with it.

My goals are to try growing micro arugula, popcorn shoots, wheatgrass and cat grass.

I have a bunch of veggie seed packets and bought many more flower packets so we’ll see what grows. I also have some ranunculus and anemone corms to give those a try, and I’m planning on growing some more edible flowers!

What sounds coolest on the list to you?! What are you planning on growing?

We’ll be at the December 17th market and you know Alex Schilz (Allie&Nyx crafts) and I will be decking our booth out Christmas themed! 🎄 ❤️💚 This venue is completely booked with vendors so it’ll be an awesome day for shopping.

I’m bringing some Christmas bowls and fresh-cut microgreens. I just planted a bunch of broccoli, kale, and sunflowers so put this on your calendar if you’re missing the farmers’ markets lately 😊

Happy Monday!
I’m practicing some Christmas bowls today. These seeds will be sprouting beautifully and just about full grown in the next 8 days ❄️🎄🎁 Keep these in mind for your kids’ teachers’ gifts, hostess gifts, and whoever else you may need something for. I’ll be sharing ordering info in the next two weeks.

The most common question I get about the live plants are how long do they need to be taken care of. The answer is about 1-2 weeks. They are ready to eat as soon as you receive them from me, but you can also choose to wait a few days to keep it as something fun on your counter. You would do a first cut (cut all of it and store it in a tupperware in your fridge) in the first 7 days and then if you choose to let it grow again you may get some more greens in a smaller second wind. First cut is usually the most prolific but you may get some more!

Tonight we bought sushi from the grocery store and got our veggies in today by adding micro kale on top. Easiest meal ever.

I have kale and mizuna growing in November outside completely uncovered, enduring freezing temps even as young plants and I haven’t seen any caterpillars in a long while. I knew they were cold hardy but I sure am impressed. Thought you should know if you haven’t grown it yourself!

Sometimes it’s hard to post on days that bring up mixed emotions.
