We feel as if we are on a sinking ship 💔

Our veterinary balance has hit $18K. All charges incurred within the last 6 weeks or so.

It has been another crazy month - we have over 40 dogs in rescue at this time and another 20 anxiously waiting for their turn to be welcomed.

Shelters and rescues everywhere are full, overflowing, and completely maxed out.

We have to keep things sustainable and right now they are not. We desperately need your help getting back on track so that we aren’t faced with the only option being to discontinue the work that we do.

We need your support now more than ever.
Please consider a tax deductible donation today. All donations go directly towards our current veterinary bill.

Several sweet faces made their way to SFCR yesterday afternoon and we have an ask on this $5 Friday.

Several of the pups arrived with severe matting and in dire need of grooming. We will likely spend close to $500 on grooming alone for these 7 deserving pups.

We would greatly appreciate any and all donations to put towards grooming and vetting expenses for these newbies.

JoJo is a very handsome Cavachon who was surrendered to SFCR due to his family being heavily affected by the flooding.

JoJo is 15 months old, crate trained, and working on his housetraining. He is recovering from his neuter surgery and ready to find that special family of his very own!

Holly is a timid little girl who is looking for a patient and loving family.

She is still learning that she is safe and that human hands are loving and kind. She wants so badly to be loved on. She is just learning about toys but thinks they are pretty amazing to carry around as she runs in the yard. She is wonderful with other dogs and would do best with at least one other confident dog in the home to help guide her.

Holly is crate trained and working on her housetraining.

Take 3️⃣❗️

Momma Annie started delivering her 7 precious pups on Sunday at 12:30 am.

We had three pregnant momma’s arrive to rescue all around the same time. It has been a wild ride but we are thrilled that these three moms were able to have their final litter of pups inside with foster families who love them.

We’ve fallen a bit behind but our website will be updated within the next few days!

It is SO important to teach children how to respectfully interact with dogs.
This is spot on. 👍🏻🐾

Let's talk about this photo. It's cute, except it's not. I see a dog who cannot get up without telling the child to get off. How do you think a dog is going to do that?

The 7 Golden Toddler Dog Rules:
#1: If a dog walks away from you, you DO NOT FOLLOW.
#2: Always leave room for the dog to walk away from you.
---that right there is 90+% of dog bites eliminated---
#3: We do not climb on the dog.
#4: We do not grab or pull on the dog.
#5: We do not hit or throw anything at the dog.
#6: We do not touch the dog's food.
#7: We do not go into the dog's kennel.

I promise these are not overly difficult concepts for littles, nor will they rob a kid of their bond with the family dog. It will deepen that bond, while keeping everyone safe.

"Oh, it looks like Moose is walking away from you. She is saying she wants a break. Let's play with this instead!"

"It's Moose's dinner time! Let's give her space to enjoy her yummies."

"That is Moose's room(kennel) and only she is allowed to go in there."

"If Moose wanted a break, could she walk away from you right now? No she really couldn't. Let's move away from the play house. You can keep playing but now she can leave when she wants a break."

In conclusion, ***parent your child or your dog will do it for you, and you will not like how they do it.***

Our rescue is struggling and it feels as if we’ve hit rock bottom. The number of dogs in need of rescue and coming from all directions is insane and incredibly overwhelming.

In less than two months, we’ve racked up a vet bill of over $15,000.00. We must up our game when it comes to fundraising in order to financially sustain the number of dogs we’ve been caring for on a consistent basis. The reality is that we’ve been so busy caring for said dogs that we, in a sense, have let the fundraising ball drop.
We are exhausted and need a boost to keep us going. Skipping that Starbucks coffee and donating just $5 truly makes a difference. If you can’t donate, please share this post.

Bare with me and if you make it through the remainder of this post, thank you.
I want to go into a little greater detail about where our dogs come from and why we are SO passionate about helping these special pups.

We made the decision to focus on rescuing “breeder release dogs” quite some time ago. Most of the facilities our dogs come from are USDA regulated and inspected. Sounds great, right?

Maybe… if you feel that it’s “good” for the puppy mom’s and dad’s to live out their lives in a kennel setting similar to what is pictured below.

Maybe… if you feel that 6 inches of space on all four sides of a dog is enough room to live in day in and day out.

Maybe… if you believe that little to no access to the outside world is mentally and emotionally healthy for a dog.

USDA breeding facilities are perfectly legal and our goal as a rescue is not to shame the breeders we work with but to be there for the dogs when their breeding days are over, and to educate others the very best we can. Some facilities are better than others - the quality varies drastically.
However, the purpose of the dogs remains the same. They are there to produce puppies for a profit.

When a dog is ready to retire, no longer producing, producing small litters, isn’t a good a mom, or the biggest reason currently being that the facility simply has too many dogs (the market is flooded and pups aren’t selling like they were) that is when we step in.

Instead of being sent or sold to another similar facility, or being destroyed, our goal is to be there to catch those dogs.
The commercial dog breeding industry is massive, it’s a different way of life and a completely different mindset than what we have as rescuers and dog lovers.

Taking all of these purebred dogs must be easy… right?

Not exactly. Our dogs often come to us with emotional and psychological issues that need to be worked through.

More often than not, our dogs have never been inside of a home, sat in a lap, heard the sounds of a TV. Some have never felt the sensation of walking on grass or any surface other than wire for that matter.
A lot of our dogs are so terrified of humans that they urinate or defecate out of intense fear when approached or touched.
Not necessarily because they have been abused or mistreated but because they’ve never or very rarely been handled. Never been held or petted.

The amount of veterinary care our dogs require prior to adoption is spendy. We do not profit off of our adoption fees and put far more into our dogs than we ever gain back from adoption fees.

We need your help to get back on track. Thank you to all of you who continue to support our mission and the work we do.

We appreciate you all so very much 🐾💕
