🐾Crates

Crates are a bit of a controversial subject but the only person who can decide if a create is right for you and how you use a crate is you.

Do I use crates at home for my dogs?
No, because I have no need to.

But are my dogs crate trained? Yes absolutly!

Why? Because there are several occasions one might be needed, for exaple:

Car travel.
Settling between go's at training classes.
For rest and recovery from injury/illness.
Keeping curious puppies safe.
Offering a safe place for your pet, away from children etc.
And many more reasons you may have for using a crate.

Side stepping with Heidi 😍

This is something that I've wanted to tach for a while but Heidi needed more motivation to move forwards so this was moved to the bottom of the list.
She has lovely positions but would go static and start to lag behind, so we've worked on forwards motivation and I've spent the last few weeks building value for her driving into heel position...by building the value for the position she's learnt to side step without me 'teaching' her 🎉

Next step is to encorporate it into a routine 🤞🤞

It's pancake day! 🥞

Who's dog will be expecting a pancake today?
🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️
Here's a dog friendly pancake recipe:
50g flour
1 egg
100ml water

Whisk all ingredients together (add more water if needed) heat a frying pan add your mixture and cook each side 🥞
Then add your dogs favourite topping...this it will be peanut butter in this house!

Meet the dogs 🐩

Next up is my special friend JJ, belonging to Millie.

JJ is a 7 year old standard poodle and Millie’s first dog of her own. JJ is a typical poodle who loves life and everyone in it. JJ loves to train and take part in various heelwork to music and rally demonstrations and competitions around the country. He took part in the Crufts puppy demonstrations team aged 6 months. His favourite thing to learn is any sort of trick training and will show them off to anyone at any given opportunity. JJ loves to cuddle his favourite people as long as millie is within his view. JJ loves to spend time with Kaite’s dogs Lexi and Heidi, and we all can’t wait to get to more completions with the jumping jacks team this year.

Meet the dog 🐩
Here's Millies 2nd dog
Rio is 10 year old miniature poodle with typical small dog syndrome. Rio loves to play and learn tricks in his safe spaces however when in busier environments he easily becomes overwhelmed. Rio has tried his hand to various sports such as heelwork to music and has taken part in various demonstrations throughout the years, however due to a hip injury early in his life missed out on many opportunities to compete as well as being unable to take part at Crufts after qualifying. Rio now enjoys his life watching others competing, sleeping and having cuddles with his favourite people.

This weekend saw me and the girls head down south for the first ever Heelwork to Music Dog of the Year competition. Not only were they perfect hotel guests but they performed amazingly in their classes 🩷💜
Lexi came 2nd in Starters freestyle and Heidi came 3rd in Starters heelwork 🎉

Next up for meet the dog is a very special little dog belonging to Millie 🐕

Charlie was the reason Millie began training and he sadly passed away aged 15 in September 🌈. Charlie was your typical cocker spaniel crazy and loved life. Charlie retired from demoing and competing aged 14 as always loved every second of training, and always was the most enthusiastic and forgot how old he was. During his life he competed in flyball, obedience, rally and heelwork to music. Charlie took part in the Crufts good citizen dog scheme sliver demonstration team for multiple years as well as competing in the young kennel club obedience crufts finals in 2016 and 2017. Charlie always loved trick training, which took him around the country in demo team throughout his whole training and competing career.💙

So I was told terriers and small furry's don't mix...well with the right training they do.

This is our 2nd hamster and both dogs have been taught from the start that if the hamster is out they are on beds ❤️

This didn't happen over night, there were several steps to get to this point, but it is possible!

* there is always constant supervision when phoebe is out of her cage *

Time to meet the dogs 🐕

Next up is Heidi 💜
Heidi is now 5 years old, she's a very nervous girl who didn't have a great start in life so we spend a lot of our time doing confidence building exercises.
Heidi gained a lot of confidence competing in flyball and was a lovely consistent littlw dog who gained her flyball dog award.
Heidi competes in agility at KC grade 3 and beginner's at Agility for All. She competes at grade 3 in hoopers winning the golden hoop award 3 times. Like Lexi she has spent the last year competing in Heelwork to music also securing herself a spot at the Dog of the Year competition.
Heidi spent a few seasons competing in disco dog and became rollers champion of 2019.
Heidi also loves her tricks and has gained her exprert masters trick title as well as a few obesience titles. Heidi has also been part of demo teams showing of her skills at shows such as dogs unleashed.

Time to meet the dogs 🐕

First up is Lexi 🩷
Lexi is now 10 years old and still your typical fun loving terrier. She has competed in agility, getting to grade 4 at KC and Champ at Agility for All before retirement. She also competed in flyball gaining her flyball dog award and winning BFA champs.
Lexi currently competes in hoopers at grade 3 and has spent the last year competing in heekwork to music, winning into novice freestyle and qualifying for Dog Of The Year.
Lexi loves her tricks and has gained her expert masters trick title as well as a few obedience titles, she has also been apart of several demo teams showing her skills at local shows as well as crufts.

So next up and joining the team for 2024 is Millie 🎉

" I am excited to be joining the Jumping Jacks team this year. Dogs have always been a major part of my life and 2024 marks 11 years of dog training and competition experience, within that time competing and demonstrating at Crufts on multiple occasions. I currently own a miniature poodle called Rio and a standard poodle called JJ, however cocker spaniels will always have a special place in my heart due to having Charlie in my life for 15 years."
