In cherished memory of Clifford.
It's always difficult to pinpoint exactly what drives me to be a veterinarian, especially in a sea of animal lovers like you. Yes, you need to love animals and medicine, and you have to be intelligent and driven (or else veterinary school would spit you out faster than you could imagine). But I don't think there are many of us that can't trace this path to our incredibly formative deep bond to at least 1 childhood pet.
Clifford's mother has had him since middle school, and was by her side as she worked hard to become a veterinarian. She gave him an incredible life for 15 years, but even us veterinarians have to say goodbye to our babies.
It was an honor to be trusted to be the one who helped him find peace in his mom's arms on his couch. In that moment, she wasn't his doctor, she was his loving and grateful mom.
Good boy, Clifford. (And say hello to my childhood dog Elmo, who is the reason I am Dr. Jeni today). 💜🐾

Roxanne's family created a beautiful farewell space in their backyard before I arrived. There was nothing but love, sunshine, and a cool breeze as Roxanne took her final breath at home.

The view from my side of Toki and her family.
Toki was her parents first "baby before babies". Despite treatment, her aggressive metastatic cancer became too much for her little body. When it was time to say goodbye, I sedated her in her safe little cave in her carrier. This took the Calico edge off enough that her parents could settle into goodbye with her before the anesthesia. Her last memory was comfortable in her bed on her cat tree with her people.
I took a mozzarella cheese stick, her favorite snack, with her for cremation as her eternal piece of home.
Good girl, Toki. 💜🐾

Silicon Valley Pet Project (the rescue that I volunteer with) has been contacted by the family of a former adopter. The adopters have passed, and the family is unwilling to care for Lily in her senior years.

Lily is a 9 pound, 13 year old tri-colored Chihuahua. She likes a quiet life and just needs a home with a nice lap and a person or two to follow around. She lived with other dogs when she was in foster care last, but has lived as an only dog recently. She would likely be fine with or without another dog or two or a cat.

I've attached a couple of photos from her last stay with us as well as one that was taken not too long ago. Lily is just a sweet senior who deserves a home where she can relax in her senior years.

Please message me if you are in the Bay Area and are interested in meeting this sweet old lady. 💜🐾

The view from my side of Wrigley and her family.
I don't see as many Wrigleys out in California, but Wrigley and her family are originally Chicago northsiders like me (all of the dogs have Chicago themed names). Her beautiful last memory was in her backyard in her bed.
The most memorable moments during her farewell for me was the behavior of her doggy siblings. Payton was bonded with her in life. After she passed, Payton avoided her. Goofy, crazy young Barney settled right next to Wrigley when she passed with a sense of calm. I took her with roses from her yard as well as a bit of fur from her dog siblings to be cremated with her as her eternal piece of home.
Good girl, Wrigley. 💜🐾

The view from my side of sweet Aiyra and her family.
Aiyra was the absolute sweetest girl blessed with the most loving parents ("Aiyra" even means daughter in Portuguese). Unfortunately, we had no options for them when an inoperable tumor was found.
Her parents held her before we began, and she felt so safe that she closed her eyes. When I came to give her the good stuff, she didn't even open her eyes while I poked her with a needle. She fell into her deepest sleep safe in her dad's lap without a second of stress or fear in a bubble of love with her people.
Good girl (boa menina), Aiyra. 💜🐾

The view from my side of sweet Louis and his family.
Being the perfect Labrador was easy for Louis. Unfortunately, he aged like a Lab and his body was giving out before his spirit. His family poured their love and gratitude out as we got him to snoring in his favorite spot outside. His little sister yellow Lab Scarlett could definitely sense that something was different with him, and even tried to jump in the back of my car with him before we drove away. 🥹
Good boy, Louis.💜🐾

In cherished memory of Zainey.
Zainey was a tough behavioral case her whole life. She was incredibly bonded with her mom, and also incredibly fear aggressive. Her mother worked with multiple behaviorists, including UC Davis, to no avail. While she had every right to deicde that Zainey was too much of a burden for anyone to bear, her mother built her life around Zainey's needs. Years later, her brain began to deteriorate to the point of constant pacing and anxiety (cognitive dysfunction), and her mom trusted me to take care of them on the day they needed care the most.
She had an incredible feast of burgers, milkshakes, and fries, and fell asleep in a bubble of love with her mom without a second of fear or apprehension. I took her for cremation with a rose from home and some ashes from her doggy brother Bolt, who passed away last year. Here is a photo of her and Bolt, and I hope they are running free of pain and confusion on the other side just like this.
Good girl, Zainey. 🐾💜

In cherished memory of Mocha.
Mom has had Mocha since she was 17 years old. Mocha was the constant in her, and then her husband's, life. When kidney failure came for her strength, she held on for mom's birthday. The day after, she lay in her bed and drifted into snoring rest with her parents surrounding her in love. She was cremated with her blanket as her eternal piece of home.
Good girl, Mocha. 🐾💜

The view from my side. Mr. Kitty's parents enveloping him in love in their yard as he falls into a peaceful and painless slumber. I took a leaf from the tree that was hanging above them to be cremated with him as his eternal piece of home. So much beauty in this work that I get such accolades for that I can never begin to express, but I will try with my view.

In cherished memory of Tw***ie.
I first met Tw***ie in September 2022 through the rescue organization that I volunteer with, Silicon Valley Pet Project. She was a sweet and charming dog with a cleft palate that was found wandering the streets of San Jose. We figured out through imaging that her kidneys were degenerative, and that at some point in time she would go into kidney failure. She was still a lovable and perfect fit for her foster family, and 6 months later they officially adopted her! Her family gave her a spectacular few years of love, travel, and adventure with her 2 Frenchie sisters. When her kidneys shut down, it was my honor to grant her a peaceful goodbye in the spot that she loved on her couch.
In some ways, I helped bring her into this spectacular life she thrived in and give her the beautiful ending to it that she deserved. 🥹
Good girl, Tw***ie. 🐾💜

In cherished memory of Yibs.
Yibs' parents adopted her in the first year of their relationship, and she has been a part of their whole adult lives. When her body grew weak from suspected cancer, her parents knew they didn't want her last memory to be terrified in a clinic. They were able to give her a double dose of gabapentin to put her into a deep sleep before I arrived, and she didn't even feel it when I gently administered the good stuff. She was in dad's arms in the place that she felt safest, with a beautiful breeze from the window carrying her last breath.
Good girl, Yibs. 🐾💜

In cherished memory of Ginger.
Ginger was her family's first baby, and was such a loyal sibling to her kids. When her once athletic body was too weak to enjoy a lot of what made her happy, her family made the hard decision to say goodbye.
Her family gathered in her backyard and told their favorite stories about her. She was a runner, and many times would end up in the neighbors yards and even on their roofs! Ginger's last memory was being loved on by 6 pairs of hands that she called home as she drifted into a peaceful sleep. Her kids picked some flowers from the yard to be cremated with her.
Good girl, Ginger. 🐾💜

In cherished memory of Henry.
Henry was his mom's true service dog, and helped her live her best life in so many ways. It is just excruciating to watch a soul you love become a shell of themselves with confusion and anxiety from cognitive dysfunction, and his family had decided they needed to give permission to Henry to finally rest. I had helped his doggy friend Chip transition at home, and his family recommended they call me.
Henry was able to reach comfort and peace with his parents in his bed at home in his personal bubble of love and gratitude. I took him to be cremated with his favorite stuffed lamby, and was honored to bring him home to his parents when his cremation was compete.
Good boy, Henry. 💜🐾

The view from my side. Two days after her 14th birthday, Zoe was unable to get up due to cancerous growths inside her body. When it was time for her to get my good stuff, her family busted out the most decadent feast I can remember. On the menu was donuts, fast food burgers and fries, as well as home cooked chicken and steak. Needless to say, she didn't even realize I had given her the medication, and fell into a deep comfortable sleep muzzle down into a burger. It was such a fitting goodbye for a Shepherd/Husky mix that gave as much love as she received.
Good girl, Zoe. 💜🐾
