On Saturday we had a family dinner for my little sisters birthday. My sisters cat Dorothy finally came out while I was there!! She’s been put on a diet cause apparently she’s a bit too chunky! It’s safe to say she’s a very spoilt cat!!

Yesterday I think max was trying to tell me something! I think he wants to be a Ute/truck dog. He’s definitely not your typical kelpie (doesn’t like most dogs and some livestock) but I think this is the only typical thing about him! But everyone knows I don’t do usual.

This morning molly and Bella got lots of cuddles from the residents at work. Now hanging out with my special man maxi before I have to head back to work. Thankfully at this stage I have the next four days off from paid work so I can catch up on cage cleaning, study and hanging out with max.

As some of you may know I am currently studying towards my vet nursing qualifications max is meant to be helping! But he has officially been labeled as world’s worst study buddy!! At least he hasn’t chewed up my laptop cable! He seems to be enjoying himself very much.

Today the 4th of April is world stray animal day. This is to bring awareness to the number of stray animals are out there.

There are a few things that everyone can do to help.

- make sure your pets are microchipped. So that if they do get out for some reason or another they can quickly and easily be returned too you.

- make sure your animals are desexed so to eliminate the risk of any unexpected/unwanted litters

And consider adopting another furry/feathered/scaly family member from a rescue.

Every animal deserves to know what a loving home is.

Good evening everyone! Another intro. Sorry this ones a little bit of a long one.

I would like to introduce the latest little darlings to make their way into the family. Their names are molly (lighter) and Bella. Their human mumma sadly had to surrender them due to having to move and them not being safe in the new home due to other animals already being there. Their mumma loved them so, so much. This is obvious in Mollys age (grand age of 6 years old) and Bella’s hefty weight (at her heaviest she was close to 1.5kg!). Molly recently had to be spayed due to having a big ovarian cyst the poor darling. (I think genetics may have had a slight play in it) This is a big and invasive surgery especially for a darling of Molly’s age. Bella is 3years old.

They are both originally from cavy cottage which is the same place as I got my dear little Lola from. They use to like to call themselves a rescue but they were far from it. When a guinea pig comes to me I usually don’t get much history on them but I was actually lucky enough to be put into contact with the girls previous owner and was able to get some background on them and old photos of them. Getting the background on the girls led us to believe that molly is actually one of the daughters (or even granddaughter) of barbie my housemates old girl who sadly passed on New Year’s Eve. She rescued her from a bad situation and nursed back to health with the help of our beautiful vets. Although she already had a pretty big health issue to deal with I am just so so glad that she didn’t suffer the same neglect as her mumma did. The two girls will only know love and kindness for the rest of their lives the same as everyone else that comes through my door. I make a vow to every animal before we even make it to the car to go home that no matter what I will never let them suffer for another moment.

So I thought I would start with my boy maxi’s story. He is a Australian kelpie. I adopted max from sippy downs animal shelter. He turns 3 in mid October. I don’t know that much about his history before I got him. Other then he has mild cerebral palsy and brain injury. We also figured out shortly after him arriving that he’s reactive to other dogs and has some anxiety. Sadly he was born with the cerebral palsy but it doesn’t seem to affect him just yet. Before a adopted him he was unfortunately bitten by a paralysis tick which caused him to be deprived of oxygen for a period of time (unsure how long for) that seems to affect him a bit. He can’t always pick up on the normal dog social ques. And he doesn’t have the same stamina as normal kelpies. In the next 6months I am hoping to get max to a trainer that has been very highly recommended by a dear friend to help with his reactivity. We are currently in the process of crate training. So far so good. Last night was the first night he spent the whole night in the crate. And didn’t whine at all.
