Adoptable Cole through Sterling Animal Shelter ! He's doing amazing on a loose leash with a front clip harness. He even walked past a dog in somebody's yard!

The house has been shown and an offer accepted! My husband & I will be heading to SC to view a few homes this week :-)

I hope to become a non-profit as Pawsitive Impact as soon as possible after we move in and settle. Part of my education and rescue efforts will be dog training for basic skills and manners to help keep dogs in homes. So, I will continue to keep this page and continue my dog training journey. Only a few more assessments to go for Graduation!!!

Hi Everyone!

The house is almost packed up... Now we need to get it all into storage so we can get the house painted and ready for a new family!

Once we finally move into our new home (still not chosen, lol) I will be getting my non-profit filed into reality and get 501c3 status. My goal is to stop the source of rehoming and strays by offering education to all on proper dog care and training, as well as the importance of spay and neutering. I dream of having a spay and neuter wagon like we do have up here from a few organizations in MA. Once we settle in I'll be starting up a foster network as well!

Haven't posted in a while! Rescue has been very busy for the summer months. I am amazed, in a sad way, the amount of surrender applications we have received at the shelter I work at and the rescue I am involved with.

Many reasons are the lack of places to rent now that allow dogs. And the other big reason is behaviors. A lot of these behaviors are breeds that need jobs not getting the exercise and mental stimulations they need.

It is so important to pick a breed based on your lifestyle; how often you are home, how active you are, and more. Please look into your breeds before adopting including from shelters or rescues.

All right y'all I really love things to look all perfect in the background but you're getting dirty laundry and dirty dishes while I take a break from dishes and laundry to cut up some treats!

Great info about making treats smaller to make them go further last longer and help on a budget also so they don't fill your dogs up faster while they're training!

Fun Fact Friday!

Did you know that staring isn't just rude but dogs consider it a threat? Do not stare directly into a dog's eyes and if they are tense and staring at you it's time to turn your body to the side and turn your head away to show you mean no harm, and create distance between you. Oh, but wouldn't you love to gaze at this baby's eyes all day!? Gorgeous 😍

Aversive Collars:
It is NOT like a Mother's bite. Mothers are gentle in their pressure. They don’t intend to hurt and dogs know their Mother isn’t there. Your dog doesn't think, “Ow that hurts, but wow that's just like when my Mom was teaching me how to dog. Maybe I should listen to this human person just like I did with Mom”. They know it hurts though. And every living creature will try to stop the pain.

Prong Collar:
Made to dig into the neck around the delicate neck area. You are damaging the delicate part of the dog’s neck. This is where the thyroid, trachea, saliva glands, and larynx, are. Prong collars can cause irreparable damage to dogs. The thyroid gland is responsible for mood, emotions, and basically everything in the body and mind.

According to the American Kennel Club, “The thyroid is like the thermostat of the body. It regulates different internal systems by sending the appropriate amounts of hormones to necessary places. In particular, hormones play a large role in your dog’s metabolism. When they’re not produced at normal levels, major health issues can result”. And, “Hypothyroidism occurs when your dog is not secreting enough thyroid hormones, causing your dog’s metabolism to slow. Low thyroid levels affect all your dog’s organs. In 95% of cases, the direct destruction of the thyroid gland causes hypothyroidism.”.
