These past few years were a great ride. I want to thank everyone that gave us the honor of feeding you and your loved ones. It has been so filling to share my passion of agriculture and food systems with so many people in my community. Even with all of the joys, it is time for Booker Botanicals to close it’s doors for good.

This chapter has been one of growth in so many ways and I’m grateful y’all were along for the ride. As one chapter comes to an end it opens the space for a new one to begin. One that is more focused and specialized. 💚🤎

It was such an honor to facilitate this workshop. We had a full house of 50 ppl join us in a session on storytelling and eldership. The laughter, tears, snaps, and affirmations that happened in that short hour will stay with me forever.

Cultivating space for collective healing and celebration will always be apart of the work we do and we can’t wait to do some more. 💚🤎💚

I had so much fun interviewing my friend Sebastian Hassell today for the Black excellence cooking class with Pasture and Plenty.

Doing these in the field segments has ignited my passion for food journalism. Interviewing Black farmers and cooks is something I plan to do on a national level at some point, and I’m glad to have started here.

We talked about his work at Troy but check out Rudolph-Hassell Legacy Agriculture to see the amazing work he is doing on his own! 💚🤎

It’s important for me to thank all of the beautiful people that helped make our brunch last week a success.

Thank you Badger Rock Neighborhood Center for opening your space for us to build community through food and storytelling. It was just perfect.

I also have to give a huge shout out to Loveland Acres Farm for donating produce for the brunch. It’s so cool to connect with farmers with the same mission and values. You are the best and everyone LOVED the watermelons.

Because of y’all support we are only $500 away from our goal of funding 3 Black agriculturist attendance to the Black Farmers and Urban Gardeners Conference. Thank you to everyone that has donated so far. I’m excited to come back and share what we’ve learned from these amazing farmers! 💚🤎

As the days gets shorter and the nights get colder it’s time to break out the row cover.

This helps with so many things on the farm. Right now it is keeping pests off our fall crop of greens and keeping our green beans and sweet potatoes warm into the fall. We are also using it to keep the birds away from the winter wheat planted to give them a fighting chance to sprout!!

It’s amazing how much a pice of fabric can do! 💚

The heat is finally breaking just in time for the block party tomorrow!

I am excited to be back vending at block party for my third year. They believed in Booker Botanicals from the beginning and I’m forever grateful 🤎.

Tonight’s showcase was so much fun! I got to show off the fruits(and veggies) of my labor and network with some amazing BIPOC farmers, chefs, and grocery store owners.

Today was the day the Divas joined the flock on the farm!

Since chickens are mean, we are keeping them separate in the coop and during the day. I’m super excited for them to be one big flock in the future!

Veggies feed the body, but flowers feed the soul. That’s why we grow flowers in all of our beds alongside our tasty crops.

Calendula is one of my favorites to grow because the are so beautiful and have medicinal uses as well! 🌱 👨🏾‍🌾

There are many pros for rural farming as well as urban farming. This year we are excited to be working with both!

Being able to grow in the city will allow us to do workshops in the community that are more accessible. We can’t wait to share what’s in the works this summer. Stay tuned in! 👨🏾‍🌾💚

Many cultures around the world eat the amazing leafs of the sweet potato plant but they are hard to find in many grocery stores.

That’s why we love growing them on our farm. We strive to fill the cultural gaps in our food systems and providing sweet potato greens is one way we can do that!

The Divas are finally getting some love now that the sun is back out! The students at Badger Rock Neighborhood Center are on their second season of chick socialization and are doing a great job.

The hugelkultur bed is all put together. I added a layer of veggie scraps and compost to the top.

I’m excited to see how my produce will respond to this living compost bed!
