Who’s going boating this weekend for July 4th?! Skylar is a boat dog through and through - she’s been going boating since she was 6 months old. Last summer we had to take time off the lake since our hands were full with having a newborn, but Skylar was SO happy to get back on a boat this summer! Her first summer boating she was too nervous to jump off the boat, but now it’s all she wants to do (to the extent that sometimes we need to leash her). I started training Skylar the day I picked her up and brought her home. I had read a few books and implemented the positive reinforcement strategies from day 1. I love training her and especially as a puppy she was eager to please and a fast learner so we had a good time training together! Part of why I’m such a fan of positive reinforcement is because so much of training and having a “good dog” (whatever that means) is based on the bond you have with your pup and having them trust you. Skylar isn’t perfect. Neither am I and neither are you. So expecting a dog to be perfect is not having fair expectations.
