Who needs LUCK when you have THIS MUCH CHARM?! Happy Saint PETrick’s day from our handsome boy Milk! Milk may be a day late and a forever-home short (and has all that medical history…see his bio), but he still thinks life is magically delicious.

Milk is available for adoption, please see his bio for more info https://www.mfdogrescue.org/about-3
Warning: May cause shenanigans and malarky.

Meet Milk! Milk is a doofy 7-month-old German Shepherd with a wonderful personality, but pretty crappy joints. He came to us in December with a broken ankle and suspected hip dysplasia. He’s slowly recovering from his ankle surgery and he’s finally ready to start searching for the perfect family!

Milk is such a love and the biggest ham. He lives for lovins and could snuggle for days. He loves to play, but will freeze for pets and melt into the arms of whoever shares their affection. He loves other dogs and begs his foster dad to let him wrestle with his dog friends, rather than working on a slow recovery. Milk does think he’s a watch dog and does an excellent job of alerting his foster family of visitors.

Milk is all puppy. He has loads of energy, makes lots of messes, nibbles on his people, chases the cat, forgets he’s housebroken, gets lonely in his crate, etc., etc. Typical puppy crazies. But he’s also super smart and learns quickly. He loves training and is currently working on using his “inside voice” when he’s in his crate.

Everyone falls for him in seconds; he’s so handsome, loves snuggles, and is great with other animals. Who wouldn’t want him?! However; Milk’s new family must be prepared to take over his recovery and future medical needs, to put in the work for his ongoing rehab, and to have the financial security to cover any future medical expenses. Milk’s ankle and hips will have progressive arthritis that will require continued veterinary care, medications, and potentially future surgery.

Meet Fig! This wiggle-butt is extra smart and super lovable! She is a 4 month old Rottie/Pittie mix that came to our rescue in December with a broken jaw. She has been recovering well from surgery and is finally ready to find her forever home!

Figgy greets everyone butt-first, wagging and shaking her little nub, almost side-shuffling forward. She can be a little timid at times, and may bark when nervous; but she really loves people and other dogs. She wrestles nonstop with her foster sister and has to snuggle up close to her to nap. Fig also loves when her foster mom has friends over and plops herself down right in their lap, awaiting the extra pets.

Figgy knows “sit”, “wait”, “kennel”, “yes”, “go eat”; and is working on “down”. She wasn’t potty trained when she came, but now she sits next to the door and paws at it to go out. She loves the snow and goes absolute nuts; zooming and bouncing around, eating clumps of ice and flakes. She also loves playing with all of her foster sister’s toys, especially the one that dispenses treats as she rolls it around!

Fig seems and acts like a normal pup, but still has ongoing restrictions from her injuries. She will gradually start transitioning to hard food/kibble, and should eventually get the okay to chew on harder toys/etc again. Figgy’s lower jaw was broken in half on both sides and plates were placed to stabilize the fractures. The plates may need to be removed eventually (or not), but for now she’s still healing well. She will need a family that can take over her medical needs and that is prepared financially for any future complications or other emergencies.

Please email us at [email protected] for more information on Figgy!

Whoops! We took in a kitten! 😅
*ADOPTED*
Meet Huck! AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION! This fuzzy little devil is quite the survivor and has purred and snuggled his way into our dog-loving hearts. Huck is currently 5 months old and will be medically UTD when adopted.
LIKES: cardboard boxes, balls, mouse toys - the usual; sneak attacks with bunny kicks and finger biting (we’ve been working on this!); snuggle time with chin scratches and motorboat purrs; and stealing whatever type of food you’re eating, he’ll eat anything and everything.
DISLIKES: being restrained for exams or held for too long; being put away/up in his “room” (the bathroom) while he recovered-he’d scream cry and scale the towels to the top of the door; and dogs, he really hates dogs.

Huck lost his back leg to a dog attack and was surrendered to us after he lived without medical attention for over a week. 😞 He’s been such a champ and has purred since we met; even with his open fracture, he was just happy to have the attention ♥️

Huck gets around great on 3 legs. He zoomies through the house, climbs up and around the cat trees, and pounces the other animals in his foster home. He loves to wrestle with his young cat foster sibling and attempts to play with the other cats. He also enjoys tormenting and chasing the chihuahua mix and tolerates all the large dogs - to a point. He still occasionally gets scared/overwhelmed and will go into scary defensive attack mode, but he seems to recover quickly now. He is definitely nervous when meeting new animals and will become very fractious, especially with dogs.

Huck is looking for a forever family that will give him all of the attention he demands while understanding his crazy side. He obviously needs to be indoor-only. Our usual adoption requirements apply; we’re asking $150 for his adoption fee (a small portion of his amputation, neuter, vaccination, etc. costs). Please email us at [email protected] if you’re interested in Huck or have any questions!

HELLO FRIENDS! I’M STILL AVAILABLE!!
While Farley has yet to be able to thrive in a forever home, he’s continuing to blossom in foster care. He loves making new friends, romping around like a loon, sloobering up any type of foods and treats available, and going on walkies and adventures with his foster pals! His coat is even more luscious than before- if that’s even possible - but it sure sheds just as much as always; his eyes are clear with just tiny strips of seemingly-normal boogies to clear away a couple times a day; and he zoomies like he can’t feel his ever-worsening hip dysplasia.

This gorgeous hunk has pulled in hundreds of emails and pleads from all around the country, as he is quite the handsome giant fuzz-loaf! But most hastily-excited prospects ghost us once we reply with some basics from his bio. He’s had less than a hands-worth of applications submitted, and only one had appropriate medical on existing pets. Although we’re surprised this perfect beast (ok he’s a medical “disaster” with some behavior issues, but he’s so sweet and gorgeous!) is still with us, we knew finding the right home would be challenging. Please know that he is safe, happy, and content in his foster home until his forever home finds him! PLEASE HELP US FIND HIS FOREVER HOME BY SHARING HIS POSTS!

ADOPTED!!

Phoebe Sue is about 2 years old, 12 pounds, and we're thinking she’s some type of Shih tzu mix. She's a super sweet, naturally-fluffy-but-also-cute-when-shaved, little lady that came to our rescue after being hit by a car. She is a-okay now, does the cutest dancing-spin trick when excited, and is learning how to be an inside dog and trust people.

PLEASE READ HER WHOLE BIO HERE: https://www.mfdogrescue.org/phoebesue PRIOR TO REACHING OUT ABOUT HER

Phoebe was previously kept as an outside dog and is very shy of new people and environments, and can be nasty-protective to other dogs. She tells us she now loves to play with other dogs, as well as hiking, wrestling with friends, chew and softee toys, training time, snuggling with her foster parents, and so much more!

Sue Sue will need a forever family who understands how shy she is and that she'll need some time to warm up to them. They'll also need to understand her under-socialization/exposure and will need to continue to work on her interactions with new people and environments. She currently needs sedation to be groomed.

ADOPTION PENDING
Meet Riggs! Riggs is a 9-week-old (as of 6/1/20) male pit bull mix pup who is way too cute for his own good!

Riggs can be the bestest boy! He already knows how to sit and laydown; and is doing great at wait, stay, and potty training! His smartness gets him into all sorts of trouble though, and he'll definitely need a family that can put up with his antics and continue to teach him his good boi manners!

We're quite certain his cute brindled self will get loads of attention; but his go-to antics are not-so-cute at all and will make finding the perfect family a little challenging. He loves to bite, and bite HARD. He likes to bark, and bark LOUD. He likes to play, and play HARD.

"Of course he's a puppy!" you might say; but please know, he's a little bit more special than a normal pup with his level of biting, barking, and overall naughtiness (naughty boy has made us bleed more than I'll admit). He's looking for a patient, active, loving, experienced, and committed person or family to bond with forever.

MEDICAL CONDITIONS / HISTORY: Riggs came to us after an event that led to him coughing up blood and spending a couple days in oxygen. He has since fully recovered from that event and breathes like a champ! However, he also came with joint problems that we're still figuring out! He will require a family committed to covering potentially high medical expenses in the future.

If you're interested in Riggs, or have any questions, PLEASE FIRST READ HIS ENTIRE BIO (https://www.mfdogrescue.org/riggs) and then email us at [email protected]

ADOPT ME https://www.mfdogrescue.org/farley

Farley is a fluffy giant goof looking for his forever home! He’s everything you’d expect him to be: freaking huge, super slobbery, floofs for days, sheds worse than any foster I’ve ever had, and gives 12/10 cuddles. Farley is a purebred (also a little inbred-we have his papers 😂), neutered, 2-year-old Saint Bernard, that weighs around 130 pounds. He is UTD on all medical needs, but has a few underlying health issues that will require a large financial commitment, especially in the future - see his full bio!

PLEASE READ HIS ENTIRE BIO HERE: https://www.mfdogrescue.org/farley, PRIOR TO REACHING OUT TO US ABOUT HIM! Thank you for your interest in our handsome boy! (below is a brief summary of his bio)

Farley is also a huge fan of zoomies in the living room, sneaking cat food off the counter, pulling super hard towards anything he wants, and knocking over anything in his path of fluffy destruction. He is extremely friendly and super outgoing. He likes to wrestle, rough house, and play tug. He sits nicely next to the other dogs to do tricks and take treats. He is a very good watch dog and will bark quite loudly when people approach the house.

Farley knows sit, down, wait, wait before eating, go to crate, and will shake as a trick. He definitely lacks a lot of control in public, as our outings are infrequent, but we’re working on it! Farley is crate trained and is crated in a huge cage when we leave; he does pretty well with this, but does complain at times.

Farley LOVES other dogs-playing tag, tug-o-war, keep away, wrestling, snuggling with them, meeting new friends in public, etc. He does get possessive over his food, toys, edible bones, and sometimes areas around the house where there’s food involved.

Farley will “randomly” initiate fights with my dogs, typically over food or around a place where there’s food, but previously it would be over toys as well. Thus, we’re highly considering requiring him to go to a one-dog-home due to this (even though he loves loves other dogs and would love a lifelong playmate!), as these events could easily progress in certain situations and could become dangerous.

We enjoy Farley and have fallen in love with him over the last several months (almost a year) since we pulled him. He’s a wonderful dog, easy to love, so very affectionate; he just loves people. He’s still such a puppy; he has us laughing and “awwing” daily over his doofy antics and cuuuute face. We would 100% keep this dog if it weren’t for his “random” issues with our dogs (it’s just not fair to our guys, and frankly not safe). Given this, we’ve been happily keeping him happy, loved, and floofed, in the meantime, and will keep enjoying him until his perfect home comes along!

MF DOGS

“I founded MFDR in 2020, but I found myself in 2007. My first dog; my first foster; my first steps into the rest of my life. I was 17 when I graduated high school and bought (yep, bought) my first dog; purebred Golden. My heart-dog, Jackson. Age 18 when I got my first taste of fostering, also a golden, Jackson’s “naughty” brother. It sparked a fiery passion in me that has never stopped burning. To take in a dog that needs you, to be that dog’s everything; and then to set them free into their new beautiful life. Sometimes it’s a melting, smoldering passion; at times it seems that we can never do enough to help them; at times it hurts like hell to let them go. But that changed face of a rescued dog. That level of raw emotion. It’s empowering, filling the spirit with a glowing, illuminating love. Worth it every time.

Our family has since personally fostered over a hundred dogs and several dozens of cats through various rescue organizations, and largely on our own at our own expense. Through the encouragement and help of several friends, motivation from four medical cases we’d taken on ourselves in the past year, and a giant kick in the sweatpants, we finally filed as a Virginia business and started the non-profit process in January 2020. Here goes everything!”
