Mom Shoots Escaped Monkey, Citing Fear for Her Children's Safety

A mother of five in Mississippi fatally shot a rhesus monkey that had escaped from a truck crash, saying she feared for the safety of her children. The incident occurred on Sunday, Nov. 2, near her home in Heidelberg, Mississippi, after her 16-year-old son spotted the animal in their yard.

The monkey was one of several that fled after a truck transporting them from Tulane University's research center crashed on Interstate 59 last week. The woman, Jessica Bond Ferguson, told The Associated Press that she grabbed her gun and shot the primate because she had heard the animals carried diseases.

“I did what any other mother would do to protect her children,” Bond Ferguson stated. Although Tulane University later confirmed the primates were not infectious, the truck driver had initially told law enforcement that the monkeys were dangerous and posed a threat to humans, necessitating protective gear.

The Jasper County Sheriff's Department confirmed the homeowner discovered the monkey on her property and shot it out of fear for her family and animals. To the Sheriff’s knowledge, two monkeys from the crash remain missing, and the search for them is ongoing.

Arizona Police Issue 'Turquoise Alert' for Missing and Endangered Teen

Ten Injured, Two Critically, in Shocking Stabbing Spree on UK Train

A shocking stabbing spree unfolded on a train traveling from Doncaster to London King’s Cross on Saturday evening, leaving at least 10 people injured. The British Transport Police (BTP) were called to the scene around 7:42 p.m. local time after receiving reports of multiple stabbings.

Authorities Probe 'Intentional' Explosion at Harvard Medical School
