Yesterday while at my dr's appointment Inday did something incredible. Sadly I missed it so I will relay it as hubby told it to me...
Right after I went into the building a car pulled in next to hubby & Inday, whom I had left out there to wait for me because she was a bit wound up and I wasn't sure what to expect from the appointment. She didn't bark at everyone and have her usual fits when someone walked too close to the car but she left out a few soft woofs from time to time.
The car next to them had a mom and a little baby (infant) who got out and went into the building, came back out a short bit later. Mom got baby loaded into the car while Inday watched quietly, then mom got in and started it up, put the car into gear.
Just as the mom was letting her foot off the brake another car was coming into the driveway and was coming right at her. From her space she couldn't see very well so began to slowly pull out... and that's when Inday had her 1 fit of the day.
Hubby reports she "went nuts" while staring at that car next to them and it was only a second before he realized what she was seeing and alerting... the 2 cars were going to hit each other almost head on and there was a baby in one of those cars... Inday knew there was a baby in there, knew the danger.
Hubby was able to wave his arms at the mom to get her attention, which made her stop just as the other car would have hit her. It went past and barely missed her front bumper, but no collision. As soon as the mom stopped her car, Inday's fit stopped too. The baby was safe and Inday was watching carefully. The mom waved a thanks to hubby & Inday and then drove off safely with her baby.
No, Inday has never been trained for this nor has she ever witnessed a car accident... she's just THAT amazing and aware and intuitive and WICKED SMART!
Hubby is now in total awe of our little curly spoo, not that he wasn't before. As a reward Inday got to enjoy one of her favorite rawhides for the long drive home.
Proud spoo mama moment over here, celebrating the most unique and special dog I have ever known. ❤ ❤ ❤ I think this one is part human! 😛

Mom has been watching the Westminster Dog Show on tv and her tablet. She just added this to our wish list. She says this would be good for my WPS (wiggly puppy syndrome) and it will "grow my brain with my body". She showed me the picture on her tablet and the WPS took over. I hope her wish list gets here soon. This looks like so much fun!

We have a rule. It has been in place since Stella first stepped foot into our home and it will continue. Inday has other ideas and likes to push the limits.
The rule is simple. When mom & dad are eating, puppies must stay in their beds, laying down, same room. They are allowed all of their toys and those are always within reach, and we allow the big bed, but they must stay in their bed.

Our meals start out kinda hectic while Inday is learning this rule. We both chase her repeatedly and return her to her bed until she finally gives up and stays put, allowing us to sit and eat. Her protests remind us often of our grandson or any other young child who is told they must stay in one place for any length of time. (approx 30 min.) There is this game they play, and Inday knows it very well. It's called "part of me is still touching the bed so I am still in my bed like you told me to be". I will start to document this further because some of her antics are just hilarious, making it difficult to discipline her without laughing.

The photos are progressive, posted in the order they were taken. She started out laying in her bed with mischief in her eyes. She then rolled herself off the side of the bed, hind feet always touching it, then when told to "get back up there" she sat up and pretended she was already up there. We finished with another "get back up there" and the pout as she laid in the same position she started in.

Nobody can ever accuse me again of getting no exercise! Dinnertime alone qualifies as a workout while I attempt to eat and I am getting less food as I laugh and choke on it while watching Inday and her baby play.

We are so in love with this puppy!

Apologies for the brief lag in posts. I took a couple of days to celebrate my 50th birthday. Since losing Stella I have been taking a lot more down time than I used to. We are still grieving here in the Moneyhan family so I thank you for your patience as we transition to our new normal.

Inday has been loving the new snow! She also likes shovels and flying snow. She was moving so fast I had a hard time following her with the cell phone at one point during this video.
Enjoy!

Today was a busy day. This morning mom & dad took me for a car ride to see my new friend. They call her “Vet”. She’s really nice to me. She gives me great treats and tells me I’m beautiful while she plays and cuddles with me. I was having a good time playing with Vet when mom & dad said we had to go for another car ride.

I like car rides but they make me sleepy so I miss out on a lot. Today the car ride was very bumpy and scary. Mom held me tight and told me it would be ok. I didn’t believe her at first but then it was really ok so I slept with my head on mom’s shoulder for a while.

When we stopped mom picked me up and carried me inside this big building. I wanted to go play in the snow but there were some big and loud scary things all over next to our car. Dad called them trucks. I was glad when mom put me down inside so I could walk. I’m a big girl now and I like to walk by myself. We walked a lot in that place. We stopped a lot too. While mom & dad were busy looking at stuff I was watching the puppies fenced on the floor. They cried a lot and barked a lot. I tried really hard to ignore them but they kept making a lot of noise so I had to give them “the look”.
While I was giving “the look” to those naughty puppies mom & dad were talking to a lady. She walked kinda fast so mom had to keep telling me to “let’s go” as we followed her around for a while. We had to stand around and wait for something so she was petting me. I liked it. She was very gentle and kept telling mom how good I was and what great manners I have. Mom says I have wiggly puppy syndrome but I tried really hard and sat very still so the lady would keep petting me. When she stopped she took my collar off. I got a little worried. That’s MY collar. Mom said so when she put it on me. The lady put a pretty purple tag on my collar and then put it back on my neck. Now I jingle a little when I walk. Mom thinks it’s cute but I’m not sure yet. It IS better than the bells mom kept trying to put on me so maybe it will be ok. Mom says I need this tag in case I ever get lost so people will know my name and where home is. I don’t think I will ever get lost. Mom isn’t allowed to go anywhere without me anymore. That’s the rule. My rule. If I don’t watch over her closely she might get into trouble. Mom’s do that ya know.

After I got my new tag the nice lady gave me something to eat. She called it a treat but it was kinda yucky so I spit it out all over her floor. Mom was thanking her for giving it to me but I was hoping she wouldn’t give me anymore. I was ready to go before she could try.

We went back to the car and drove some more. When the car stopped mom got out but dad stayed with me. He laid the seat back and we took a nap together until mom came back with bags of stuff. Mom said it was stuff for me but I was too busy sleeping on dad to care. I was comfy.

Then the car took us to another place where mom got out and left me & dad again. This time dad took me outside to p*e and there were these giant mountains of snow. I wanted to p*e on the snow mountains but dad said we couldn’t go up there so I p*ed at the bottom of one. Then we went back to the car to take another nap. I like naps.

Mom came back with more bags of stuff she said was for me. I wasn’t so sure tho. She put them in the back seat where I couldn’t reach them. If they were really for me she should have let me dig into them.

Then we went to another place and this time dad got out of the car and left me with mom. Mom sang to me so I went back to sleep until dad came back.
Then we got to go home. I was happy to be home. I got really excited to see my own yard and tried to run to it but mom was holding the leash I have to wear whenever the gate gets opened.

We all went into the house and then mom & dad sat down to eat. Dad wasn’t feeling so good so I had to go jump on him a few times to make sure he was ok before I laid down in my bed where mom says I have to stay while they eat. We’re still negotiating because it’s so hard for me to stay in 1 place for any time. Mom says that is the wiggly puppy syndrome that I have. It won’t let me sit still. But I try anyway.

After they finished their food mom opened the bags and brought out all kinds of stuff. Some of it was good stuff. There were some great toys in there and I really liked the big pink flamingo. There was some other stuff but mom said it wasn’t toys and I wasn’t allowed to carry it around or chew on it. Doesn’t she know its only good stuff if I can chew on it?

I got to play with my new toys for a little while but then mom said we had to finish my haircut. I didn’t really want another haircut but mom said I had to. While we were negotiating the terms mom brought out this really wonderful chew that smelled so good it made my butt wiggle all over. When mom let me taste it I think my eyes might have rolled up into my head because it was SOOOO good! It was so good that I didn’t care what mom was doing, but sometimes my body was so into that chew that it wasn’t doing what mom wanted. She had to keep standing me back up while she told me how pretty I was. I didn’t care about pretty, I just wanted my new chew. Yum!

Finally mom said we were done and she allowed me to go play but by then I was so tired I just wanted to sleep.

I slept for a long time. When I woke up mom & dad took me outside to play in the snow. I love the snow. Its so much fun to dig and burrow into it. Mom said I had a “snow mug” but I’m not sure what that is. I just know that mom kept taking pictures and I just wanted to go back outside to play some more in the snow. Mom said I have to wait until tomorrow.

When it was time for bed I didn’t want to go upstairs because then I have to go into my crate for the night to sleep. I want to sleep with mom & dad but mom says she can’t have me p*eing in her bed. I try really hard not to but sometimes I leak. So when mom & dad say bedtime I go lay in my favorite spot cuz I want to sleep there instead. Mom scooped me up into her arms like she usually does and carried me upstairs. I gave her “the look” but she kept walking. The wiggly puppy syndrome came out but mom kept walking. When we got to the bedroom I was looking at my crate but mom walked past it and set me on her bed. Woo Hoo! The big bed!! Then mom scooted me over and said we had to save room for dad, too. I got to stay there for a whole 20 minutes but the wiggly puppy syndrome wouldn’t let me sleep. It was also pretty warm in the room so I wasn’t able to get comfy. Finally mom put me in my crate and turned on a fan that blows past my crate so it was ok that I had to go in there tonight. Mom & dad put a soft bed in there for me so at least its comfy and I went right to sleep. Sweet Dreams everyone!

Inday has taken an interest in watching the koi, visiting them multiple times/day. They now have started to greet her with their noses to the glass which gets her very excited. Here's a short clip of one of her koi visits.

Today we began what will become our regular grooming routine. I can see now that this will be an entire day to finish the whole dog, possibly more, until she matures a little and learns to sit nicely to let me work. For a 1st time I think she did quite awesome!

We don't have a proper clipper yet so I did a scissor trim over her body, hips, thighs, shoulders, and behind her head. I took off about 1/2" so it wasn't much, but it made a huge difference. I had hubby take a video of us finishing up with a final brushing, which will also give you all a chance to see how I am interacting with her, things I am teaching her. (if you listen) When she chews on my hand I tell her it's my hand and say "ouch" and she stops immediately. When she bites at or tries to take the brush I tell her "that's moms" and "not yours". Once she understands that grooming time isn't play time we will be good. Until then we will just keep doing what we are doing and enjoy every minute of it.

Today Inday discovered squeakers inside some of her toys. Now, in my own defense, I did show them to her when she first came home and a few times since then. She didn’t seem to care, which I attribute to her settling in and finding new things each day… part of the growing puppy experience.

Stella was a squeaker dog when we first got her. Her mission when she heard a squeaker was to GET IT OUT as fast as possible. Once she had destroyed the toy and removed the squeaker, it would be discarded and lay there until I cleaned up the mess of stuffing that she often tracked all through the house.

Inday has a different approach, at least for now. She just seems excited she is able to squeak them by herself, no help needed. Little does she know but mom saved dozens upon dozens of squeakers over the yrs from Stella’s destroyed toys so I will be busy making dog toys with squeakers during our pending snowstorm this weekend.

The other thing our little princess doesn’t know yet is that mom is planning to do some more grooming this weekend, too. We have plans to head out early Saturday morning to pick up Stella’s remains & drop off a piddle sample for testing at the vet and then we’ll be headed to our local Animart to see what we can find for supplies and a new halter that fits better. 1 way or another this puppy is getting something for a haircut this weekend even if it takes all weekend to do it. I will be sure to post before & after pics when we are finished.
Enjoy the video and turn up your speakers so you can hear the puppy squeak!

We tried our hand at grooming this weekend. We fixed the long haired butt problem that was making potty time a smelly mess. It has been about 30 yrs since I have used a clippers on a dog so I was a bit nervous.

I studied all night Saturday night to make sure I knew what I was doing. That led to me worrying about her falling off the table we had to use, worrying about catching her skin in the clippers, worrying about scaring her or somehow traumatizing her.

In the end it was really mostly a problem of WPS... wiggly puppy syndrome. When she held still it went just fine, but that was quite the challenge, even with 3 of us working together... 2 to hold and me to clip. The only part she protested at all was the ear hair (inside the ears). The rest of it was just about her inability to stand still for more than 1 second at a time. Since Amber had "head duty" I gave her a pig ear to help keep puppy's attention. This worked well til Inday decided it meant a game of tug of war was in order for control of that pig ear.

All in all, we got the most important part done... the butt & under side of the tail, the pads of her feet, and a bit of evening out on the back legs. Most of the clipping was done with a scissors just because it was easier and faster. I tried using dad's old clippers but it is pretty loud and has a heavy vibration so puppy thought it was a toy to be chewed. Then I tried the one Amber brought, which was much quieter and very light vibration, but didn't cut real well. Neither clipper was designed for use on dogs, so I resorted to scissors. I will be investing in a proper cordless clippers within the next couple of wks and hubby will be building us a grooming table.

Today Inday discovered her tennis ball squeaks. On the suggestions of a few groomers on youtube, I opted to play hard with her today in hopes of tiring her out for a session of grooming training. Yeah, right. She has thus far exhausted me multiple times over the past 5 hrs while she is still bouncing off the walls with no signs of slowing.

Over the wknd I discovered why Inday has had so much trouble mastering going down the big stairs by herself. Sp*ed was definitely part of it, but it was sp*ed in combination with doing the bunny hop (2 legs at a time) that was causing her to lose her balance until she rolled down the rest of the way. We have worked all weekend on slowing down and she is doing much better with it. She seems to enjoy it so much now that she spent 1/2 of today going up and down the stairs, bringing 1 toy at a time upstairs and then taking them, 1 at a time, back downstairs, without help or supervision.

During my breaks I took some pics & video for all of you because it was all too cute to miss. I also attempted to get a video of her bunny hop down the stairs this afternoon.

Enjoy!

As we come to the close of day 6 (has it really been that long already?) I can announce Inday is officially housebroken. 🥳

This is the part where I admit that housebreaking was the 1 part of getting (any) puppy that I had dreaded. It has been decades since I last housebroke a puppy and the memories still haunt me when I give them any thought. I think "hellish" was 1 of the words I used to use to describe it.

I knew it would be easier with a poodle, as most everything is, because they are so smart, but 6 days? At 3 months old, having only spent 1 night inside before coming home and was used to having a doggy door? I don't know about anyone else but I have never heard of such a thing. I may have to contact Guiness to see if there is a record on the books. :P

Now, as our first week with Inday comes to a close I want to recap the highlights/accomplishments.
1. Fully housebroken
2. Knows and obeys sit, lay down, and stay (most of the time)
3. Is gaining some independence, not so clingy, and exploring on her own more
4. Has identified and claimed her favorite spots in the house, 1 of them being my recliner
5. In & out the back door and hallway without having to be coaxed or carried out (most of the time)
6. Comes when called, recognizes her new name
7. Sat for a full brushing without eating the brush
8. Survived bath #2 in prep for grooming tomorrow, didn't necessarily like it yet but didn't protest like the 1st time
9. Discovered pig ears and mom found something to motivate her immediately, now declared a favorite.
10. Established a reputation as a tissue & paper thief
11. Sat pretty well for a first nail filing with emery board
12. Met oodles of new people and was so perfectly behaved with everyone it seemed impossible.
13. Travels like a dream
14. Doing great with food transition, eats like a champ

The only thing left to say tonight is that I am in awe...

04/01/2020

Someone has been nonchalantly sn**ching used tissues out of mom's little garbage can in the craft room all evening. She doesn't realize that even when its dark, her all black fur makes the bright white tissue hanging out of her mouth very visible. She likes paper, too. She kept walking past the trash pail and each time would sn**ch another without missing a step. Time to get a cover on the trash pail.

03/01/2020

By the end of day 4 Inday asked to go outside to go potty. When daddy let her out she did her business promptly. She left 2 little "excitement leak spots" tonight in the house, but other than that she has done her business outside most of the day and all night. (Just the 1 accident early in the day)

She is also going outside willingly now, where before she would hesitate to go down the stairs and then refuse to go out unless carried and put out. As of tonight all we need to do is hold the door open and call her. :D

I have to admit, I was dreading the potty training of ANY puppy but she is making it so easy. No diapers, no potty pads, no newspapers, etc. and the messes in the house have been minor and easily cleaned quickly. (It's amazing the difference between a 20 lb puppy and a 60 lb geriatric dog and the amount of work it is to keep up with it all) I think coming down off of the work it was to take care of Stella those last few months made all of this puppy stuff much easier, but most of it is just Inday making it easy..

We have become accustomed to Inday barking and crying when she has to go into her crate at bedtime. It lasts for about 10 - 15 minutes and then she settles for the night. Last night I understood it was because I wasn't in the room. I tuck them in and then I get my mommy time until I'm ready to sleep. From the start she has refused to leave me unaccompanied or out of sight for even a second. Tonight we did something different. After dinner I took some mommy time (about an hr) upstairs and closed the hallway door so she couldn't follow me. She was made to stay downstairs with daddy. When I was finished I went back down and left the door open as usual. At bedtime when I tucked them in, tonight was complete silence. Not 1 bark, not one whimper all night, in spite of me going in to use the printer for a few minutes around 1am and she watched me. She has stayed quiet all night for the 1st time.

And for those many bathroom runs I make in a given day/night since surgery, where I am stuck there for a while each time... she has now taken to following me in when she realizes I'm not where she left me, and then she lays down next to the door to wait for me, either bringing a toy or just laying down to nap until I'm done. I am no longer stuck in there alone. Ever. lol She won't have it and I can't say I am minding it. Having her there takes my mind off of my body revolting so it eases my pain. And I don't think its a coincidence that those bathroom runs have lessened just since she has been here. Since that first night my gut has started to calm down a bit.

I am in awe of this beautiful little spirit who has joined our family. I know poodles are smart but this is way beyond anything I ever imagined.

I am sitting here now with a sleeping puppy at my feet. Inday is exhausted.

Somebody was very playful tonight after dinner. She's loving this hedgehog I got for her at Fleet Farm the other night. Planning to get a few more of those.

I will start putting all of my Inday posts, photos, videos, etc. here so they are easy for you to find. No more need to scroll my page and risk missing any.

This is it for tonight. This was day 3, night 4 in her new home. (She came home Sunday, 12- 29-19, about 9pm)
We will pick up tomorrow where I left off on my personal pg tonight. Sweet Dreams from Princess Inday!
