Come for a quick walk through our food forest and check out our fruit trees.
Nothing was here when we moved in 3 years ago and we have quite a few more trees in other areas of the property.
It is pretty incredible to see the growth that has happened from all our hard work.
My philosophy... just keep planting.
Some girls were created to be a mum - Princess Diana is one of them!
She has a collection of chicks that she will be growing out for us.
We made Diana's day when she woke up to these cuties under her and she transformed immediately into mummy hen.
We have some Cream Legbars, Araucana and Olive Eggers. Sadly little Paddle the Araucana who had the curled toes ended up failing to thrive and is no longer with us 😭
We sneakily put some freshly hatched chicks under Princess Diana.
She is just the best mum and will now have the task of raising 3 (possibly 4 if other one hatches) Olive eggers, a gorgeous Araucana and 2 Cream Legbars.
One of our favourite things to witness is a mother chicken raising her chicks. We never get tired of it!
Yesterday we went on an incredibly long drive to pick up these 3 girls. 1 black and 2 blue Copper Marans.
Once they have served their time in quarantine, they will join our other Copper Marans girls and Benedict our Black Copper rooster in their own paddock. We had a setback with our Copper Marans breeding when our rooster was taken by a dog earlier this year. We will continue to work on and improve our flocks.
Another selection of beautiful birds to add to our breeding collection.
We finally got the dividing fence sorted between the Araucana and Welsummer paddocks. So we were able to let our Welsummers out today. I think they are pretty happy with being able to stretch their legs and get into some dust bathing!
Willoughby is such and handsome boy - the classic rooster look and we truly love how beautiful the girls are. What do you think of them?
There are going to be some Welsummer eggs added into the incubator after the current lot hatch this weekend. Eggs and chicks coming soon 🤞!
When you leave the sour cream out of the fridge for too long - the chickens are unable to hold back their excitement 🤣
Saturday morning serenity in the food forest - with the ducks and Silkies.
My favourite days are when I have slow mornings and I can take time to just watch all the animals.
Each morning we milk 2 of our goats - Evie and Matilda. We don't get a huge amount of milk, but it's enough for our family.
This was never something we had ever planned on doing but as we started to research moving to property and being more self sufficient, goats became a regularly occurring topic in everything we were reading.
Goat's milk is incredibly good for you, particularly straight from the goat. It also tastes really good and you can't tell the difference when it is fresh!
Now we have access to this amazing liquid as an added bonus of owning goats. Along with them clearing scrub and fertilising our land! Goats for the win!
Our Welsummers are now all in together. Willoughby and Willow who we already had are now in with the 3 Welsummers we picked up a few weeks ago.
They will have about a week confined in their chicken tractor, but moved every day. Then they will be allowed out into their paddock.
We will check fertility and then hopefully have pure Welsummer fertile eggs available. If you would like to be on our list for eggs or eventually chicks (such gorgeous chicks too!) please message us.
They are such beautiful birds and really great layers.
This is how we move our sheep... they are VERY food motivated 🤪😆 and very well fed with all the grass we still have around.
Every week we give our chickens a mash that is full of all sorts of goodies to help support their health.
Lots of herbs and spices and yummy treats that they love. It has a spicy kick to it, which doesn't really affect them, but makes things uncomfortable for parasites!
Once I make the vig batch I take it around to all the different chickens for breakfast and they love it!
We are considering making up some herbal packs of what we use and also some nestingbox herb mixes. Would anyone be interested in them?
Candling the eggs in our incubator on day 7. Out of 3 dozen of our eggs, 4 haven't developed - I couldn't see in the olive and dark Marans egg very well!
This is how we do it.
Hopefully a lot of cute little fluffy chicks in 2 weeks time... and lots of happy campers with their new chicks!
Ever wondered how we send out our fertile eggs? Here's a quick look at how we do it.
Our posted eggs have been getting very good results considering we have to rely on Aus Post and their handling skills 🙄
We have a steady amount of enquiries coming in for all our eggs, so if you are interested in some please send us a message and we will add you to our list.
Who has received eggs from us? How did they arrive?
We picked up some new beautiful Welsummer girls who will be a new part of our offerings.
We already have gorgeous Willoughby the rooster and Willow. Combined with these 3 new girls we will section them off in their own paddock and have pure Welsummer eggs available once they have had time to settle in and gone through quarantine.
Welsummers are a lovely breed, famous for their calm and gentle demeanour, which makes them ideal for families. They are a really beautiful breed.
The Welsummer is renowned for its good egg-laying capabilities, producing between 160 to 250 eggs per year. The eggs are a terracotta shade, often with speckles, adding a unique character to your egg collection. We love to mix them with blue and green egg layers for some fun dinosaur effects.
They are known for their calm and docile temperament, which, when combined with their striking looks and productive laying habits, makes them a popular choice for backyard chicken owners.
Welcome to Eden girls!
So many baby chicks!
Today was due day so they have all been hatching in quick succession.
This is only a small hatch of our eggs, the others were hatched for a friend.
We made lids for our hatching cages so they can't jump out and we know what is what. It seems to have worked well!
We will have a small number of our rainbow layers and pure Pekins.
Olive eggers are already spoken for.
If you are interested in chicks please message us.
Food time for the ducks. And no this is not sped up! 🤣😆
Taking Jed to check on the sheep in the morning. He's such a goofball, but also a really special boy.
Hopefully he will become a fantastic guardian for our property 😍. He is already watching and learning from Hope - and having awesome play sessions with her.
Our property is so peaceful... love the afternoons out with the goats. It's good for them, good for the land and good for our soul.
Millie has her first lot of little Pekin eggs due to hatch and 10 days.
These ones are Pekin x
If you are interested in some chicks, let us know.
Millie will be offering purebred Pekins once breeding season starts up. She's very excited and these chickens are so adorable!
Freedom!!
We may have put a few more chicks under Consuela...
She now happily mothers 19 chicks 🤪🤣😳
There are baby chicks everywhere, it'sa little chaotic at times... but it'sso cool!
