After 6 months (that felt like years) of working with these two fellas, we have broken through the barrier of success! Aussie “Gem” has fear based aggression and Shepherd/plotthound “Tank” is a HUGE 9 month old/90 pound puppy who does t know his size and isn’t fluent in doggie manners yet! They have been introduced in variety of settings and with many different people and activities leading up to their playful romp in the dog park yesterday! They really let loose and deserve a round of “apaws” for all their hard work to get where we are. We have a lot more training and learning to do, but we are ecstatic to celebrate our (their) amazing accomplishments!!! 🐾🐾🐾🐾

Dahlia is not the biggest fan of being groomed but the more we do, the more trust I earn and the better behaved she is! She has come so far with her patience! Aren’t her little ears the cutest?!

Service Dog In Training, Tank is coming along marvelously! He is doing a number of great and wonderful things, but so far his super power is down and under. For being 8 months and 88 lbs, he does a great job of tucking himself away. Yesterday we trained together at the Hampton Inn in Lindale and he did a great job. We rode the elevator, walked around, picked up keys, and sat around and under various locations. We are so thankful to have places like the Hampton Inn in Lindale that welcomed us with open arms and the whole staff were so nice and supportive. Remember, when you see a Service Dog team out in public, the best thing to do is just ignore the dog. Happy training!!!!

Gem and I took our usual trip to Tractor Supply for our first outing with his newest muzzle, and it was unusually busy! He was less reactive but much more alert. He did soooo well! Then we took the car ride across town for our first trip to Bed Bath and Beyond. Here I was more alert as I put him in his more comfortable Gentle Leader. Much to my surprise, he again did so great! We had a few tricky places where a few people got too close, but we were able to calmly maneuver away. Yaaay Gem! I also like to sit in the parking lot and let him “people watch.” He had much interest in what others were doing, but NO barking/growling reactions!! He just looked to me like “hey mom did you see them?!” Ahhhhhh Ultra Dog Muzzle

Waggin Tails Wednesday
While needing to accomplish some household tasks, I thought the Rescue Box Chews would be a great distraction to keep the sweet pooches out from under toe! They honestly didn’t last long but they were super excited to get them!

Tasty Tuesday
Fall is in the air, but it is Texas, so we are still enduring the higher temps! So I like to combined the two into Pumpkin Pup Pops! 1 cup plain Greek yogurt, 1 can pumpkin, and 2 teaspoons coconut oil. Mix together, pour into molds of your choice, and freeze. BAM easy peasy Pumpkin Pup Pops! Enjoy!

Marvelous Monday
Jewels, Gem, and Dahlia received their Bullymake Box yesterday! When they see the orange box, tails start wagging! Jewels and Gem can’t wait to stick their snouts in the box and find out what came this time! Dahlia hangs back and circles the wagon before she snags her toy! This is by far their favorite of our subscription boxes! They get the toys only box. Can’t beat the price on this one for sure! The toys are tough and lasting, and they are made here in the USA!

After discussions on how we can start serving the pet community while in these early stages we thought about/discussed several subscription boxes.
Now Kodi & I are happy introduce Rescue Box by Greater Good. With this year long subscription, Kodi and I are able to spoil our pets with AWESOME toys, treats, and chews while simultaneously helping to feed shelter dogs! Each box is said to feed 142 Shelter dogs and sends us 5 great products for our pet!
Please look in for the next 11 months as we see what our pooches think of this subscription! 😊

Feed your pooch Friday!!!
Cover 1 pound ground turkney with bone broth and cook until turkey is cooked through
Blend 5 eggs (shell included) with ¼ cup water in magic bullet until blended WELL
Pour into a measuring cup and add water to make the liquid 4 cups and top with 4 tbsps parsley flakes
1 large sweet potato -usually makes 1 cup (if it is a little more or less you can compensate with carrots
1 cup carrots
2 cups organ meat -here I used 1 cup hearts chopped and 1 cup gizzards chopped
2 – 2 ½ cup oats (I do not use the quick oats)
1 – 2 cups fresh zucchini
16 ounces frozen spinach
8 ounces okra
Mix together
Pour half of the mixture into the instant pot and cook on manul for 35 minutes (repeat with the second half)
*note liquid may need adjusting

Dahlia was born 10.18.18 and I have been lucky enough to know her since my cousin selected her from her littermates. Dahlia and Juju have lived and played together since Juju was 7 months old and Dahlia has lived and played with Gem from the day I brought him home at 6 weeks old. While little Dahlia is small, trust me when I say she is mighty! She has been a great teacher of proper dog manners and has tempered her play/play style to each of them in their various ages and preferences. We were so proud that she officially became a member of our “pack” in February of 2022! Dahlia is a little floof ball of joy and loves to play and snuggle equally! She is a well-rounded pup and seems to be content/happy no matter the situation. I have found that she LOVES riding in the car especially if we are driving slow with the windows down (yes they are all seat belted in). She also loves being in the country and running in the fields smelling all of the smells! The biggest challenge Dahlia presents is training. She came to me knowing how to sit and how to take food gently (exceptionally gently). Teaching Dahlia the “down” direction was the most difficult thing I have trained any dog in my life, but man the success I felt and her willingness to comply now definitely make it worth the effort!

On behalf of this adorable Australian Shepherd, James “GEM” Severus, I would like to say Hello!
Gem did not have the best introduction to the world in his first 6 weeks of life, and unfortunately this developed a fear reactivity in him. He was extremely reserved as a puppy, more so than the typical Aussie pup, and would lose his mind if taken into any sort of bathroom. Gem hit every single fear state and rode it the duration and still struggles with his fight or flight instincts. More often than not, he tries to make himself seem like the big bad so that strangers of both the 2 and 4-legged varieties will leave him alone. This has required me, Brittany, to research/learn so much more than I ever intended. We are finally to a point that passing 2-leggers just causes the anxious ears to pull back, but he still acts like the 4-leggers are out to get him! Gem is such a smart and sweet, if not feisty, lad when he is comfortable. He is eager to learn and please. To Gem fetch = life but this is closely followed by his desire to successfully complete any task I ask of him! He is 100 percent my Velcro fella. If I go, he goes!
Even with all the challenges Gem and I have had to and are working to overcome, I adore him and the Australian Shepherd breed above most!

This handsome boy is Kodi's current service dog, bed bug detection dog, and all around good boy. This extraordinary mutt is named Albert and he has a cool story. Kodi was in need of a dog to do detection work and after months of searching he happened upon Albert at the shelter in Athens, Tx. He had all the stuff Kodi was looking for and more. Not only did he like to work, but he has been great around anyone and everything (except squirrels, they must all be caught!). After getting certified as a bed bug detection team, COVID struck, and that business fell apart. Albert was without a job, but, Kodi had a new focus for him, service work. It was serendipity that allowed this same ball driven dog who loved detection work to also be the same dog who can work as a service dog. Albert is a diamond in the rough, and we are all grateful he came along. :)

This is Jewels aka JuJu aka Juju Bean aka JubyDoo (and so on) and she says “Hello Everyone!” This sweet pooch is the beautiful product of a Pittie Mix (mom) and a red merle Australian Shepherd (dad). She was born 3/20/20 into the home of a family friend and I have been in love since the first time I laid eyes on her. She is the light of my life and has literally save me. While I had the basic obedience training and potty training down from day one with this beauty, this lovely pup decided she was going to teach me all about doggies that are allergic to EVERYTHING. Well, all the kibbles I tried anyway! This is how and why I began making homemade dog food! Outside of the home Juju doesn’t meet a stranger and inside the home she gives me the best snuggles a pet parent could ask for! Have and further questions? Just ask, I promise this chatty pooch will not hesitate to answer!

Everyone meet one of Kodi's dogs named Walter. His mom is a poodle/Bichon mix and his dad is some sort of blond terrier. Walter looks like a wire haired dachshund mix to most people. While he is full of life and personality, he is not the biggest fan of strangers in general. He enjoys hiking, playing with his friends, figuring out puzzle toys, and CHEWING. Walter is also a dogs dog and he enjoys spending time with other dogs, even if it's just time sniffing around in new places. He's also Kodi's daughters best friend. She loves to groom (hand strip) and train Walter to do obedience and tricks. You'll be seeing more pictures of Walter in the future, so we wanted to take a moment to welcome him to y'all. :)
