A few weeks ago we had a random knock at the front door. Since then we have been blessed by this enthusiastic young lady who loves horses as much as we do. She is striving to be a trainer and asked if we would mind if she would work with some of the horses. For the past 3 weeks she has been consistently coming over and focusing on Rain. As a reminder Rain was training for hunter/jumper and went blind. Although she seemed well adjusted to her situation we did not resume her training, just assuming she would be a sanctuary horse. Today I came home to see the below and my heart exploded with happiness, not only to see that she is capable of so much more but also to see the purpose in Rain's face again. We are so blessed that Kiara and her family moved so close to us and our paths crossed. Rain isn't ready for adoption yet, but I'm certain she will be in the near future!

I didn't write this, but I live and love this.

I often get people commenting on how amazing my life must be to have all these animals. That it must be nice to come home and spend time with all of them. How jealous they are that I am living their dream life.

My usual response is yeah it’s pretty awesome but.. it’s just.. it’s a lot. What do you mean it’s a lot?
Well I mean it’s a lot.. a lot of work, a lot of time, a lot of money, a lot physically and emotionally.

People only see the pictures I post on social media platforms. Which is generally the perfect cute and funny snap shot for likes and hearts. But What y’all don’t see is what is behind the scenes.

You don’t see the time put into our full time job before coming home and starting the second job.

You don’t see the hours spent out in the barn cleaning stalls. Setting stalls for the night.

You don’t see the time spent loading and unloading hay, sawdust, grain bags.

You don’t see the hard work put into building pastures, putting up fencing and shelters.

You don’t see the work put into maintaining and growing pastures.

You don’t see the time spent in caring for these animals in extreme heat & cold.

You don’t see the time spent grooming and maintaining general care.

You don’t see the time spent worrying about them, making sure they are happy and healthy.

You don’t see the time spent sitting with a sick calf or horse for hrs wondering if he/she is going to pull through.

You don’t see the feed bills, the vet bills, the farrier costs.

You don’t see all the hard work sometimes ending is tragic heartbreak and tears.

You don’t see the time lost with family and friends. (Not including the family disagreements that comes along with farming.)

The list could go on and on....this is only scratching the surface.

Most people will never see or understand the behind the scenes of owning livestock. It’s not all glamour shots and cute fluffy animals. It’s work and a lot of it. I hope to share some small insight on what goes into it.

But would I change it? Would I give it all up? Hell no. This is the lifestyle I CHOOSE to live. Would I have more free time? Yes. Would I have more money? Yes. Would I have less stress? Hell Yes!!! But.. would I be HAPPY? The answer to that is NO. These animals give me life, happiness, and strength. They are a huge part of who I am.

I am fortunate enough to have an INCREDIBLE support system and family who enjoy this life as much as I do. It’s not a one person job. It’s a family effort. For that im thankful. For them I am thankful! ❤️

Save a horse, no matter where they are.

Eden Seelster, 4GL95, has arrived at New Trails Equine Rescue & Services 501c3 to start her quarantine, rehabilitation and find a loving home. She does have road shoes on and so far has argued with us about the blanket straps. 😄 We will provide more updates in the coming weeks. Thank you to the network of people that got her safe, including Christina Wright-Robertson . She owes her to life to you.

There is so much more that I could add but all of this is so true!

“Farm work doesn’t make you stronger. It doesn’t make you anything. It reveals you.

There’s gym strong and then there’s farm strong. They’re mutually exclusive.

The toughest women you’ll ever meet spend their days on a farm.

There are more uses for twine than you can possibly imagine. You can tie up a hole in a slow feeder, fashion a tail strap for a horse’s blanket, mend a broken fence and use it as a belt.

“Well that certainly didn’t go as planned,” is one thing you’ll say quite a bit.

Control is a mere illusion. The thought that you have any, at any given time, is utterly false.

Sometimes sleep is a luxury. So are lunch and dinner. And brushing your hair.

If you’ve never felt your obliques contract, then you’ve never tried stopping an overly full wheelbarrow of horse manure from tipping over sideways. Trust me, you’ll find muscles that you never knew existed on the human skeleton to prevent this from happening.

When one of the animals is ill, you’ll go to heroic lengths to minimize their discomfort.
When you lose one of them, even though you know that day is inevitable, you still feel sadness, angst and emotional pain from the top of your head to the tips of your toes. And it’s a heaviness that lingers even though you must regroup and press on.

You’ll cry a lot. But you’ll never live more fully. You’ll remain present no matter what because you must. There is no other option.

You’ll ask for so many miracles and hold out hope until the very last.

You will, at least once, face-plant in the manure pile.

You’ll find yourself saying things like, “we have maybe twenty minutes of daylight left to git ‘er done” whilst gazing up at a nonspecific place in the sky.

You’ll become weirdly obsessive about the weather.

You’ll go out in public wearing filthy clothes and smelling of dirt, sweat and p**p. People will look at you sideways and krinkle their noses but you won’t care.

Your entire day can derail within ten seconds of the rising sun.

You can wash your coveralls. They won’t look any cleaner, but they will smell much nicer.

Farm work is difficult in its simplicity.

You’ll always notice just how beautiful sunrises and sunsets really are.

Should you ever have the opportunity to work on a farm, take the chance! You will never do anything more satisfying in your entire life.

Well, that about sums it up, folks!” - unknown author
