Late yesterday we received this heartbreaking email:
I am reaching out on behalf of #########x, a nonprofit supportive housing organization in New York City. We are currently seeking assistance with an urgent situation involving two cats that were left behind by a former resident who has abandoned their apartment.
The apartment is in poor condition and resembles a hoarding environment, which makes it unsafe for us to housing the animals. Unfortunately, we have been unable to reach the former tenant, and our staff are not equipped to provide appropriate care for the cats.
We are hoping to find a rescue or shelter that can help us safely surrender the cats so they can receive the care, attention, and shelter they need. We are committed to cooperating fully to ensure a smooth transfer and can provide photos and additional details if needed.”
Upon speaking with the woman, we learned that the former tenant had been arrested- about a MONTH ago. He had been living with a girlfriend who just left the cats. Someone else had been feeding them and while we don’t know why it took so long to reach out for help- we are glad they did.
The always awesome went over this am to help and discovered the carcass of a dead flying squirrel. Poor animal must have starved to death as.. no one wanted to enter the apartment than to push foods in for the cat
The fat orange guy now known as MATTY, is secured and on his way to ACC where we have been assured he will receive care. If there is New Hope Partner who can pull him- we will have info.
BTCAR, is closed for intake. We are doing what we can to guide and connect people to help.
Shortage of funds and fosters makes it impossible to take anyone else until we catch up financially.
Rescuer left trap for The terrified black and white kitty which will be checked regularly.
These situations are heartbreaking.
We need more resources, volunteers and education for the community and NYPD.
All of our donation links are in our bio.
