We have had no interest in any of these wonderful dogs. Please come and meet them and find your new best friend. We have older dogs and younger dogs, calmer dogs and rambunctious dogs. Overall they are all larger dogs, between 50-90 lbs, but they are all great dogs in their own ways. Come and see for yourself!

Can we get some love for one of the most handsome Hound dogs? Check out our Buster! He is thriving in a foster home outside of the shelter. He would be a great addition to a family with older kids, simply because he doesn’t realize how clumsy he is. He loves all dogs and people. He responds fairly well to a recall. If you want to make Buster a part of your family, he is available through the Taylor County Humane Society.

Well, what do you do when you can’t decide which girl you want from the Scooby Doo Gang? You take them both. These girls were bonded and stayed together and curled up together in their kennel, so the fact that they get to spend their life together with a wonderful family gives the volunteers much happiness. Daphne and Velma will be missed at the shelter but will be having a blast with their new family. Have fun girls!

Since it is snowing again, with no end to this cold in sight, we are in need of more pet-safe ice melt such as the type pictured if you happen to see any when you’re shopping and can pick some up for us. It is difficult to walk the dogs when we are sliding everywhere. You are welcome to drop it in the donation box if that’s easier. We appreciate it! Thank you!

STRAW NOT HAY❗️
➡️ Obviously it is better to bring them inside than to leave them outside in freezing temps.
Be a responsible pet owner!

Quick Winter dog house tips:

❄️ turn the house facing away from the direction the wind is blowing (almost always turned south in winter)
❄️ no blankets, towels, beds- they collect moisture and will stay damp making your dog colder (like when you go camping and your tent is damp in the morning)
❄️ hay’s for horses, straw’s for paws- straw is a much better insulator than hay and doesn’t sour and smell awful
❄️ when you stuff the dog house, put more in than you think they need- dogs are denning creatures, they will burrow and bed down in it where they are warm on all sides
❄️ pitbulls and pit mixes (short, thin coated dogs) are not made to withstand freezing temperatures outdoors. They usually have a low body fat percentage, thin coat and bare bellies.
❄️ puppies are not cut out for the cold either- young puppies cannot regulate their body temperature the way adult dogs can
❄️ if somebody told you, “dogs are made for weather like this”- they are jerks and they lied. Just because an animal can survive it does not mean they should have to!
