The chicks have been getting stronger at only days old. They are around the size of a bumble bee, and oh so cute. There are five of them, with one of them currently being treated for splayed legs. What is interesting is that the two larger quail are their older siblings, from the previous clutch to Aliyah and Kodah. These two have adopted their younger siblings as their own. I am of the belief that the twins are female, which would bode beautifully as they are already raising chicks and under 4 weeks old. Either way, enjoy these little quail being the best older siblings they can be, tucking all the babies under them.

The parents of the smaller chicks are Aliyah and Kodah. The larger quail are from a pair of Japanese quail that have since passed. One of the Japanese quail is just over twice the size of the other two at 4 weeks old. Only two of the Chinese quail made it, the two dark ones in the upper right of the image. This is also a good image to point out the size difference between Japanese and Chinese quail. These were all hatched within a 3 hour window.

This is Spectre, Speck for short. He is a silver CPQ with one of the most loving natures I have ever seen. Unfortunately he has lost both the hens he has had in his life due to unfortunate circumstances. I am hoping for a hen from Aliyah and Kodah as his mate. However, Speck is already quite old as he had been a breeding male for at least two seasons before he came home with me (he is from a late '18 clutch). I really hope to see this old fella produce more lovely silver chicks. He has produced some amazing ones in the past.

The bird in the foreground is Kodah. He is mated to Aliyah and is a red breasted carrier CPQ. He is a loving mate and always feeding Aliyah with whatever he feels will make a good gift. He arranges their eggs, even through his mate wont brood them. I do hope they will be able to raise some chicks themselves in the future.

This is Aliyah. She is a red breasted Chinese painted quail hen and one of the most photogenic birds I have ever seen. She is mated to Kodah. This breeding season (end '21- start '22) has been her first successful one, having been egg bound during her first laying period in early '21. She has since produced more eggs than any other CPQ I've had. At the time of this posting, she is mother to 7 chicks from two batches. Since she was almost certainly artificially incubated and raised, she has no concept of motherhood and has yet to sit a nest or raise chicks. Aliyah and Kodah have produced some of the cutest chicks yet. Pics to follow.

As the first post, I would like to say welcome. Maybe you're interested in quail as pets, or maybe just in learning more about them. This page is dedicated to these special little birds.
I will be posting updates in regards to my quail, observations, and pictures.
