Hey hamster humans, we hope that you've had a fantastic week!
We have had quite a difficult month throughout May in the rescue, with vet bills surmounting to more than £1,000, including:
2 surgeries; Fenton from the North West had to be castrated following tumours in his nether regions.
Lucky in the South East had to have a tumour removed. Both surgeries were successful and both hamsters are ready for adoption!
Unfortunately, we had one little hamster who didn't make it; Daisy who managed to break one of her front legs beyond repair. Following medicine, the leg became necrotic and she had to be put to sleep.
We still have a few hamsters undergoing veterinary treatment;
Luna in the South East who has been struggling since before she came into our care with an ongoing infection. She had an ulcer in her eye which has been successfully treated, however the infection is not done yet and we're currently investigating where else it has spread and if it can be treated.
Nebraska in the North East is off her medication for her head tilt, however she still has a weepy eye, so she will be booked into the vets for another consultation next week.
Obviously the vet bills in themselves are high, but there is the additional costs of things like critical care, baby food and porridge to help with the hamsters taking medication and keeping their fluid levels high. In some cases, we have to change bedding more regularly than normal to keep surgery sites clean and clear from infection.
If you'd like to help us out with these costs in any way, please feel free to donate via PayPal to [email protected]
We thank you all in advance!
