KMV Feathered Nest KMV Feathered Nest is a nonproffit rescue for any pet birds in need. We also have helpers in other areas of the state if needed.
(2)

We are located in Roanoke County VA but will travel to pick up donations and birds that need help within reasonable distances. I am willing to travel up to 3 hours from Roanoke to pick up birds in need or cages that are donated. Also willing to pay shipping on food and toy items that may be donated. For biosecurity reasons I do not allow visitations to my property but am willing to meet in the Roanoke or New River areas.

Sorry I haven't posted anything in over a year... A lot has been going on personally and with my health, so it's been mostly taking care of the essentials.
I have set some nest boxes for my own breeders for the first time in a year and hope for some lovely babies soon, but I need to thin down the flocks, so I will be posting some birds, just as soon as I decide who to part with. I'm attached to them all.
THESE WILL NOT BE FREE BIRDS! I'm tired of people thinking I'm giving anything away. Even rescues have rehoming fees.
A short list of what I do have availabirb right now. Details are on my Blue Ridge Bird Fanciers group.
Import Cobalt Parrotlet hen
2 cockatiel hens, 2020 Cinnamon (91J) and 2022 Lutino (99A)
2 Cinnamon Green Cheeks 1M (2022) 1F (2020) singles or pair.
Various English Budgies (1-3 years old, both sexes, all show lines)
Orange Face Pallid (Australian Cinnamon) Peach Faced Lovebird hen (2020).
All are breeders, except the male GCC. He was hand fed, but hasn't been played with much lately. A few of the male Budgies are also fairly friendly and will step up.
PM me for details. I don't always see comments on this page or PM to this profile so you can find me by searching ki4got (Karen Anderson) I've also commented below if you want to just click my profile.
Pic of Teeko, one of my rescues just because he's a love! (He is NOT going anywhere, so don't ask!)

I just recently took in a large group of parakeets in need. Their prior owner was simply going to put them outside and live or die as they may...
Once I've made sure they're all healthy and ready for new homes, a few will be looking for new zip codes.
UPDATE: These birds all found new homes.

For those who have done business with me, it would be great if you'd leave a review. Thanks!
I'll be posting soon with some updated goings-on.

Baby budgies being hand fed by a good friend. They're just starting to nibble seeds.
I wish my work schedule allowed me to feed younger babies, but it's just not practical.

I just posted the availabirbs (shared) and figured I'd add an update here for what's on the menu for the next couple months! ;)
I've got baby parrotlets hatching out now! They should be blue or turquoise, possibly pieds as well, with other colors possible if both parents carry those mutations. I won't know for a few weeks probably.
I've got more keet and budgie eggs in the nest, meaning more hand fed babies!
A new one, my red throated parrot finch pair are nesting finally! It only took the invasion of a gold breasted waxbill to their cage to jump start them I guess LOL
And I've got another nest of canary eggs due to hatch in under two weeks. Crossing fingers for colorful babies this time!
Oh! I've also got a pair of lovebirds that are starting to lay, so crossing fingers for them as well. The hen is a true blue violet pied, the male is par-blue, so I should get some true blues, violets, par blues, possibly violet par blue, and pieds of those colors.
Everything except the finches will be hand fed, thanks to my good friend Lori Ogozalek! I don't know how I would manage without her love of hand feeding. LOL

So much has gone on in the last year, and I've kind of forgotten to update this page!
My bird building is progressing towards being finished!
There are still a number of things that need finishing, but it's getting there!
Still to be done is finishing the insulation in the back loft, installing the sink, water tank and water pump and holding tank for the grey water.
I'm also planning to screen the front porch and put an outdoor aviary on it for some birds to enjoy the summer months.
I am breeding some birds, with the goal of raising funds to help further support those rescued and those in need of rescue in the future.

Welcome to KMV Feathered Nest's new page!
I am in the process of filing the required forms for our 501(c)3 nonprofit status and hope to have that completed by the new year!
Here are a couple snapshots of the bird building, which is temperature controlled, insulated and ready to start accepting birds in need of help. It's still a work in progress, but I have additional cages going in soon to accommodate birds from finch to macaw!
We will occasionally have birds ready to leave for their new homes and their rehoming fees will help future birds with medical needs, feed and housing, until they are ready to leave for their next chapter in life. When birds are ready to move on, they will be posted here, but all discussions will be taken privately to avoid this group from being deleted like so many other bird and animal groups recently.
I am also working on creating a website for the rescue and will be posted as soon as it is ready.
Things we need! Yes, there's always a need! Right now, the building is in need of roofing repair. The shed was brought to me, used, and the shingles were damaged during transport. The transporter told me he'd have them repaired, but that never happened and all further attempts to contact him have failed! So I'm hoping to get enough donations before the weather turns too bad, to have the shingles redone.
I will be posting more details of the current residents soon. These birds are here for life and are the inspiration for the creation of this rescue. Attached are some pictures though, including my macaw Baby, who has been with me her entire 27 years!
