⭐️Why Suppressing Symptoms Isn't The Path To Growth-

✈️Imagine a young child, strapped into their seat on an airplane, eyes wide with terror as the engines roar to life. They're screaming and crying, overwhelmed by the unfamiliar sounds and sensations. In an attempt to calm the situation, a parent sternly tells the child to "be quiet or else." The child, intimidated, forces themselves to sit silently, tears still streaming down their face.

At first glance, it might seem like the problem has been solved. The child is no longer crying or screaming, and the parent might breathe a sigh of relief. But has the child's underlying fear of flying actually been addressed?

⭐️The Danger of Suppressing Symptoms-

😓Not at all. By forcing the child to suppress their emotional response, we've only treated the symptom, not the root cause. The child still feels terrified, but now they're also feeling anxious about expressing their emotions. This approach can lead to more harm than good, as the child may develop additional coping mechanisms, such as dissociation or repression, to deal with their unaddressed fear.

⭐️The Parallel with Dog Training-

🐕 This scenario has a striking parallel with dog training. How often do we focus on suppressing unwanted behaviors, rather than addressing the underlying emotional drivers? We might use forceful practices to get a dog to sit or stay in the face of fear or anxiety. But have we really solved the issue, or have we just temporarily suppressed it?

⭐️A Better Way-

💜It's time to shift our focus towards understanding and addressing the emotional roots of our dogs' behavior. By doing so, we can build trust, foster emotional intelligence, and create lasting positive change.

💜You must understand, your canine companion is one of the most intelligent social species on the planet🐾, similar to elephant herds, dolphin pods, wolf packs, and human families 👪.

They thrive in strong social packs where they are heard and respected 🗣️. They have a strong desire to know their role, be helpful, and feel important 💪.

They yearn to form deep, meaningful bonds and enjoy playing and having fun 🏞️. Just like you, your dog is a conscious being with thoughts, feelings, and emotions 🐾.

They experience life in their own unique way, with their own instincts and reactions. But at their core, they share the same emotions as you and I: love, wants, needs, desires, fears, and more 🤗.

Next time you find yourself frustrated with your dog's behavior, pause and ask: what are they trying to tell me? What needs are not being met? How can I help them feel more understood? 🤔

Remember, behavior is communication. It's not something that needs to be stopped, but rather listened to, so they feel heard and understood 🗣️. Just as we speak up louder when we're not heard, our animals' behavior often escalates when their messages are repeatedly ignored 🚨.
