Feed your rabbit fresh vegetables.

Fresh vegetables can keep your rabbit’s intestines hydrated, it helps them with overall digestion.

There are many vegetables that you can feed your rabbit, including celery, kales , blackjack, among many others.

Vegetables with high levels of vitamin A, such as broccoli, carrots, and mustard greens, are especially important to feed your rabbit.

There is often a concern that feeding vegetables gives rabbits diarrhea. Which is true, but this would mainly occur if you introduce too many varieties of vegetable at the same time. Or call it your simultaneously, rather than one at a time.

Starchy vegetables, such as carrots, should be fed in moderation. Or as treats.... only.

Can Rabbits Eat Carrots?
Today we look at how much arrots is healthy for your bunnies.
We are familiar with the trope of rabbits munching on a nice orange carrot for breakfast and it is true that rabbits enjoy these vegetables – and they are safe for them but note....in moderate amounts.

Carrots contain lots of useful vitamins, but they also have quite a bit of sugar. Sugar is not very good for your bunnies.

You can safely feed your rabbits small amounts of carrot, but you should bear in mind the sugar.

Rabbits need high fiber, low sugar diets, and if they eat a lot of carrot, they risk becoming obese.

Ensure Your Rabbit Has a Peaceful, Quiet and Secure Surroundings for good results.

A feeling of safety is crucial for any rabbit’s because they need to feel relaxed in order to live well. A nervous or uncertain bunny will remain alert even if they are not sure what the reason is they might not even eat.

Such behavior is entirely normal for any species that are prey to others. As rabbits are killed by many other mammals, their instinct will always remain suspicious of strange noises or movements.

Assess your rabbit’s surroundings and how they might be responding to them. There may be a range of factors causing them to feel insecure, and these may be subtle that you might not easily pick them. Take steps to make adjustments where necessary, either by removing certain items or by relocating the cage to somewhere they feel more secure and settled.

We should also stress that as well as secure surroundings, quiet is very important for your rabbit. A rabbit that is kept in a noisy environment is likely to feel stressed and will find it difficult to relax.

Can rabbits Overfeed?

Rabbits are natural grazers. They will always overeat if they get the opportunity to do so. They’re also prone to picking the highest-calorie foods and leaving the healthier ones, if given a choice. Pellets and other high sugar treats

It all comes down to evolutionary adaptation. Rabbits have evolved to subsist on a diet of grass, which is highly nutritious but low in calories.

Wild rabbits would have to eat grass almost all day long to consume enough calories to live on. Therefore, when they can find a more nutrient-dense food source, they take advantage. They forage and seek out the most high-calorie greens.

Domesticated rabbits should primarily eat hay, with some leafy vegetables offered now and then as treat, But if they have the opportunity, they will overeat on vegetables, fruits, pellets, and anything else.

If rabbits are given the opportunity to overeat, various things could happen. These are the most common problems that will arise:

Obesity. If rabbits consume too many calories, they’ll get fat.
Obesity can make it harder for rabbits to hop around and groom themselves.

Heart problems. According to the Journal of Small Animal Practice, rabbits can develop congestive heart failure which can be fatal. They can also develop other cardiovascular problems, such as atherosclerosis

Imbalance of gut bacteria. This is caused by consuming too much sugar or fermented foods. It can lead to constipation or diarrhea.

kindling is the term for giving birth in rabbits

Rabbit gestation is 28-30 days

Does can be palpated to feel small marble like balls growing at 14 days (half way through gestation)

Does need nest boxes big enough to get in and turn around in, plenty of hay and fresh food and water at kindling time

when a doe is carrying around lots of hay in her mouth, kindling time is near

Baby rabbits are called kits

kits are born naked, the doe will pull fur from her chest to keep them warm

Some signs that your rabbit might be unwell.

When you notice your rabbit sitting in a hunched position, it might be a sign of discomfort or distress.

Think of it as if you, on the couch with a stomach ache perhaps curled up– your rabbit’s hunched posture is a similar expression of feeling unwell.

When your rabbit is healthy and content, they typically display a more relaxed and stretched out posture.

A hunched position can be a subtle clue to letting you know your rabbit isn’t feeling well.

If you see this alongside other signs like a lack of appetite, less droppings, or a decrease in activity, these can be indications that your rabbit needs more care or even a visit to the vet.

Since rabbits are prey animals, they have an instinct to hide when they are not feeling well. Their well-being might hinge on you recognizing these unnoticeable signals.

Is my Rabbit in Heat?

If your rabbit is in heat? Let's try and answer this question.
she might have some physical changes that can guide you or can help you get to know.

Some of these will be obvious and others less. It will help you to understand some of the signs. Once a rabbit enters heat, she never truly leaves it throughout her lifetime. The signs of a rabbit in heat include but not limited to the list below:

She will be Territorial: While in heat, your Rabbit will guard her space even more jealously. She will become uncharacteristically aggressive if you try to clean her hutch.

She will Mark the space: female rabbit will start marking with urine constantly. This is so she can attract the attention of a male. She is announcing her readiness to mating.

Seeking Stimulation: This behavior is more pronounced in male rabbits. Your female may still look to mount various objects, though. She may even mount a fellow female or invite the other rabbit to mount her.

Increased Affection: Your rabbit will periodically become more affectionate towards her owner. She may continuously circle your legs and rub against you in a free range set-up.

Restlessness. She will not relax or sleep. In severe cases, she may even refuse to eat or drink as she is so distracted.

Swollen V***a. The most obvious sign is physical if you check, Your pet’s v***a will swell and become visible. The color will be dark red or brown.

Do Rabbits Stay in Heat?

Let's explore and just to learn.

The heat sequence of a female rabbit lasts for around 2 weeks to 16 days or there about.

Your rabbit will be fertile for about fourteen days of that period. This means that she will be open to the idea of mating. She may actively seek a partner if they are in the same hutch.

Rabbit reproduction is quite different from most mammals since they do not ovulate and then seek a mate.
Instead, rabbits begin ovulation immediately when mating starts.

If a male mounts an female rabbit, she’ll start to ovulate and release an egg. Thus impregnating her. Or she will consive

Technically, the rabbit heat cycle never ends. Once a rabbit enters heat for the first time, it becomes a constant loop. Rabbits do not experience menopause either.

Your pet will be in a heat loop until she is spayed or passes away.

Hygiene for your rabbits

Rabbits need a clean area or environment, your rabbits cage needs to be cleaned regularly, not doing so will result in your furry friend getting infections.

Once a week should suffice but if you can do more frequently the better, have the cage thoroughly cleaned.

Make sure you get rid of any wet and dirty areas in the cage and replace with fresh bedding, hay is good.

When you go to refill your pet's food and water, it's a good idea to wash out the bowls/containers each time to avoid any dirt or old food to contaminate the fresh ones

Bedding should be provided to give your rabbit extra insulation, somewhere to hide and something to nibble on.

It should be clean and dry and should also be safe for your rabbit to eat. Hay and straw can be used.

Did you know that...

Mounting behavior in rabbits is not always sexual?

Rabbits mount each other to display dominance and assert alpha status male and female.

It will often result in fights and even a false pregnancy.

Mixed-sex pairs of rabbits should not be together without taking precautions.

The relationship will potentially turn into fights, and permanently damage a bond or results in death.

Rabbit farming can be sustainable

Rabbits can be raised on a grain free-diet. In a world of rising prices and increasing demand for grain & the ability to raise a good protein on garden forage is a plus in so many ways.

Rabbits are fast growing animals, high feed conversion efficiency, and maturity at only 4 months, With good husbandry, rabbits can produce more than 4 litters in a year
If a litter has 10 kids that's 40 kits (rabbits) compared to cattle and goats one calf or 2 goats in a year.

Rabbits can be low capital investment, can adapt in many ecosystems unlike many of the larger ruminants. Any one can give it a try.

Neutering ( Castration ) & Spaying.
For pet lovers, you will enjoy today's post.

Neutering – it’s not just about babies… it’s Vital for bonding & for a long and healthy life. If rabbits are left like that, they can develop other challenges that might risk their life.

It’s important to your rabbits’ welfare that they live in pairs or groups, and neutering allows them to do this.

It prevents life-threatening health problems (especially in female rabbits) and, of course, prevents unwanted pregnancies.

Perhaps you can only accommodate 2 of them, if they increase, they will be a huge challenge to manage. N they can give birth like the proverbial saying "Giving birth life Rabbits"
You will not have space, food and management for all those little animals

It’s worth saying again:
Neutering is vital for a long and healthy life plus controlled multiplication

How can My Rabbit Gain Weight Fast?

You may be noticing some changes in your rabbit and may find out that it is losing weight. Weight loss is one of the major challenges or problems encountered as a rabbit breeder and this really affects rabbits of all ages and breeds

What should one do If they notice that their rabbits are losing weight? Check if the rabbit is sick, or talk to your vet.another factor might be feeding. if it is feeding we have a few tips on how to remedy that.

Feeding rabbits with high fiber, dry foods, fresh foods like grass, and foods that contain calories will help improve a rabbit’s weight when properly administered.

Maintaining a balanced ration for your rabbit feed and also monitoring how you feed them to help prevent obesity is key,

Gaining weight does not entirely mean you need to overfeed your rabbit, gaining weight simply has to do with improving the rabbit’s size and market value to help make good sales as a farmer.

Keeping your rabbit fit can help to also improve rabbit weight gain, a little run around will do just fine.

Sore Hocks

What's the best floor for your rabbits?
It's not a question with a straight answer but a mater of choice and preference. Let's explore more.

Some larger and heavier rabbit breeds might have or can develop pododermatitis. The term generally refers to abrasions or wounds on the bottom of the feet and legs.

They are pressure sores that can develop in cages with wire floors or in unsanitary or dirty conditions.

To prevent sores from developing, ensure your rabbit's cage is cleaned regularly or frequently and choose an enclosure with an area that is smooth instead of all wire bottom.

Some truth about the Rabbits we have.

Did you know that Rabbits come in many different breeds, different colors, sizes, shapes, and coat types?

The subtler differences between rabbit breeds are mostly of interest to those who show their bunnies, while the average owner is focused mainly on the size and type of coat.

Keep in mind that a rabbit purchased from a particular place or store is not necessarily a purebred; it may not meet the ideal breed standards.

Yet this in no way reflects on their quality and should not deter you from getting the rabbit that you like.

Rabbits vary in size from the smaller dwarf breeds weighing less than 2.5 kgs to some of the giant breeds, weighing in at a whopping 5kgs and even bigger or more.

Coats can vary in color, from whites to browns, grays, and black. Fur varies in texture and ranges from short to long.

Note that the longer coated breeds require frequent grooming, so they are a little more time-demanding than the shorter hair counterparts.

Rabbits drink a lot of water
Did you know?
Rabbits need a constant supply of water. A rabbit that weighs two 3kgs will drink as much water in a day as a dog.

A water bowl is preferable to a bottle, as they’re easier to drink from, easier to keep clean and don’t become blocked.

Remember to change your rabbit’s water daily and clean their bowls and bottles regularly.

Mating your Rabbits.

Let's explore this very important excise in any rabbit farm.

Experience suggests that early morning or evening mating is best. Note that suggests, day time might as well work if the environment is ideal but it has to be cool.

It is certainly advisable to avoid the hottest periods of the day for this important operation.

Ideally it's recommend that always take the doe to the buck’s cage. If they fail to mate in a few minutes, take her to a different buck if you have several.

If this fails, try again the next day but do not leave the doe with the buck all day or even an hour in an attempt to solve a mating problem. The excise takes a few minutes, if you leave the doe, some bucks are very aggressive and can injure your Doe.

If the does is ready for mating, she will stand still within a few seconds, stretch out and slightly raise her hindquarter so as to allow the buck to mount and mate and that's all.

Successful mating is signaled by the buck thrusting forward and literally falling off the doe. Often the buck makes a characteristics cry of pain or joy lol.

If the buck slides backwards off the doe and does not fall the mating has properly not taken place.

If mating is successful put the doe back in her hutch. If not, try again the following day.

Good Housing is one of the key factor in successful farming

Properly build stractures is a critical factor in rabbit farming business. Good housing makes sure that your rabbits are safe, healthy, and can breed.

Some of the most important factors in rabbit housing are adequate space, ventilation and proper housing. In small or large scale production rabbits can be kept in wire cages, with each cage providing a certain amount of space and well ventilated space for each animal.

You can vary the amount of space you construct depending on the breed and size of the rabbit you have at your farm. But make sure they have adequate space to move around, stretch out, and stand up without touching the top of the cage.

Ensure good ventilation and also ensure their comfort and safety. The love a clean & dry environment, so cages should be designed in a way that they can self clean. Wire mesh would be good. But good quality. Add bedding materials like hay can be made available for a soft resting surface.

Rabbits require a certain amount of light to regulate their circadian rhythms and ensure healthy growth and development. So, try to ensure availability of adequate light inside their house

What should we feed our Young Rabbits on?

Perhaps a moment to explore here....
To grow up big and strong rabbits, young bunnies need more calcium and protein than adult bunnies.

This is why alfalfa hay is usually the best for your young bunnies it's a high nutrient-dense grass that will support and nourish them as they grow.

Your baby rabbits should have unlimited access to alfalfa hay and a higher portion of pellets, then switch to timothy hay once they turn 5 to 6 months old or there about. .

This is because the extra protein in alfalfa hay goes from benefitting your bunny, to potentially causing excessive weight gain and other health issues. Obesity and can lead to heart attack

D you know any other purpose of rabbits ears? Their ears help them stay cool.

A rabbit’s ears serve two main purposes.

The first and most obvious is hearing: Rabbits can rotate their ears 270 degrees, allowing them to detect any threats that might be approaching from close to 2 miles away.

The ears also have another added benefit of cooling the rabbits down on a hot day. The bigger surface area (for the ears) means more places for body heat to escape from.

Will my Rabbits stop Eating? Or does it get full?

Rabbits are enthusiastic eaters & they’ll continue grazing throughout the day. (On hay) should we call it eating? Perhaps.

They are wild animals, so In the wild, they largely feed on grasses, wildflowers, vegetable plants among many many others.

So they keep eating throughout the day and they are likely to eat, tastier, higher-calorie foods. This makes you wonder if rabbits feel full, and if they’ll stop eating food until they feel hungry again.

I think Rabbits do realize when they’re full, However, they can’t throw up if they eat too much or if they consume something that is bad for them.

Anything that’s eaten remains within the rabbit until it goes through its system. Rabbits are supposed to eat almost any time to ensure their digestive system is working properly.

Rabbits are likely to feel fuller if given a diet that’s rich in fiber like hay, grass, and other fiber-rich foods.

Fruits, vegetables, and pellets should be offered moderately or as treats. Rabbits will eat as much of these foods as they can get.

Filling up on treat foods upsets their digestive tracts, causing diarrhea, bloating, obesity, and gastrointestinal stasis (GI stasis).
