Brachiosaurus is a genus of sauropod dinosaur that lived in North America during the Late Jurassic, about 154–150 million years ago. It was first described by American paleontologist Elmer S. Riggs in 1903 from fossils found in the Colorado River valley in western Colorado, United States. These dinosaurs were herbivores - which means they were plant eaters. It is thought to be a 'high feeder' like a giraffe - eating leaves on trees up to 9 metres high. They lived about 154 to 153 million years ago - in the late Jurassic period. This was at the same time as the Diplodocus and Stegosaurus dinosaurs.A healthy, adult Brachiosaurus probably had no predators. The largest-known meat-eaters from that time (the late Jurassic period) and place (North America and Africa) were Allosaurus, Ceratosaurus, and Torvosaurus.Brachiosaurus was a sauropod a group of large, four-legged, plant-eating, dinosaurs with long necks, relatively small heads and brains, and generally long tails. Unlike other sauropods, Brachiosaurus had a giraffe-like build, with long forelimbs and a very long neck.
