A lifeless kitten next to me in the passenger seat. Just 3 weeks old, and already abandonedâdumped like he didnât matter. This was supposed to be a routine sterilization run, but here I am again, faced with another innocent life suffering because of choices that werenât his.
You didnât sterilize your pet. Maybe you thought it wasnât necessary, or you wanted just one litter, for the âcute babies.â But now, this kitten is a casualty of that decision. His mother might have given birth, alone and frightened. Or maybe she was discarded because she became pregnant, and you didnât want the responsibility. The truth is, the animals that end up on the street are victims of the decisions we make.
Every rescue feels like a battle against a tide that never stops. I see animals left starving, scrounging for scraps, just because theyâve grown up and are no longer âcuteâ or convenient. Females are abandoned when they go into heat. Males are tossed out when they start marking territory. And now, theyâre left to fight for survivalâalone, hungry, and afraid.
Itâs not just the physical toll; itâs the emotional one. I carry the weight of every life I canât save. The guilt, the helplessness, the depressionâitâs relentless. I do this alone, 24 hours a day. When I miss your message, itâs not because I donât care; itâs because Iâm stretched beyond my limit, trying to save as many as I can.
If people just sterilized their pets, so much of this suffering could be prevented. These animals donât deserve to be abandoned, to be born just to die on the streets. The tiny kitten beside me didnât ask for this life, but here we are, in this position because of a choice you made.
Next time you think itâs okay to let your pet have âjust one litter,â remember this kitten. Remember the lives that suffer because of that choice. Sterilization isnât just a choiceâitâs a responsibility.
Sterilize your pets. Because every time you donât, itâs a life that suffers. And itâs a burden we carry every single day.
