Why do the lambs at Orphan Lamb Rescue Farm love standing on top of the hay bale?

It's not just because they're little show-offs... although, let's be honest, they totally are!

The real reason is that from up high, they can see everything that's going on around them! They're like little lookout lambs, surveying their kingdom or the best hay is on the top!

Plus, it's just so much fun to be the king (or queen) of the castle... or in this case, the hay bale!

Sheepy Update

You may remember Sheepy, the adorable pet sheep who was heartlessly dumped and found his way to our Orphan Lamb Rescue Farm.

We're thrilled to share that Sheepy is doing well! His leg has been improving steadily, and the cuts have fully healed.

However, Sheepy still has a long road to recovery ahead of him. He's making slow but steady progress in putting on much-needed weight.

We're grateful for your continued support and encouragement. Your kindness means the world to Sheepy and our entire team!

Sheepy has settled in well, he is still in quarantine until the weekend when a couple of our old girls will join him in the house block , where he will have access to green grass ( there isn't any in the paddocks )

Last night he finally decided to try some lamb pellets and decided they were good and polished them off

URGENT!

(Warning graphic photos)

A heartbreaking case has just arrived at our Orphan Lamb Rescue. A member of the public found this injured, skinny, fly blown lamb on the side of the road, barely alive.

He is a pet lamb and looks to have been dumped, he had been seen for a couple of weeks in the area he was found, on the side of road with no sheep in the paddocks

We don't know his history but we know he's super friendly, and has serious injuries and has been neglected

He's extremely underweight and has fallen victim to fly strike and a broken leg. Thanks to the quick thinking and kindness of this good Samaritans Tyson & Kristy who took him home, gave him water and food and lots of TLC

He was barely hanging on when he was found.
Over night in their care he went from lethargic to up and walking

He has now received treatment, immunisation, antibiotics, antinflammatory and wound care

Although hes eating and looks bright he has a long road to recovery, he will need lots of top quality food and lots of TLC

We're grateful for the community's support in helping us provide for lambs like this little one. If you'd like to help support his recovery, please consider donating and sharing his story.

We also have a go fund me going to assist with the cost of his vet treatments and food costs

We are devastated to hear the tragic news yesterday of one of our farmers who passed away in a tragic boating accident

Victor has been passing his orphan lambs onto us for 3 years, as he was "getting too old" to keep doing them.

He came across as a rough old farmer, but he was lovely, and loved a chat. He checked his lambing ewes every morning and every night. He knew exactly how old the lambs were that he was passing onto us

We get around 20 lambs from him every year, some years 30 lambs.
He did use to rib me with keeping the lambs & sheep as pets and we wpukd have friendly banter.

Although he was a farmer, he didn't want the lambs to unnecessarily die in the paddocks when they could be saved.

We will miss catching up with him and having chat.

The last 2 lambs we got from Victor were the twins Evie and Dixie

Our hearts go out to the family, we are thinking of you all in this very sad time

We are wishing his wife a speedy recovery as she was also injured in the boating accident yesterday

🌾 Feed the Flock This Summer 🐑💚

Our lambs and sheep need your help to keep their bellies full during the hot summer months! Hay is their lifeline, providing the essential nutrition they need to stay strong and healthy.

With the rising costs of feed, every contribution makes a world of difference. Whether it’s $5 or $50, your support ensures our flock has plenty of fresh hay to enjoy all summer long.

We need to secure at least 10 large bales of hay plus 2 large bales of Lucerne hay at a cost of $3500

When we have lambs bottle feeding during the day they are in our house block
Which means we need to keep the front gate shut (we all hate getting out to open gates!!)

Occasionally we will have someone come in and not shut the gate so I got this cute sign,

Every lamb deserves a flock

🌟 Throwback to Tiny’s First Days 🐑💚

In July 2024, Tiny arrived at Orphan Lamb Rescue Farm after a rough start to life. Born overnight, he was found cold and barely alive, struggling to thrive. His worried owner brought him to us, and it wasn’t long before Tiny showed us his big spirit!

After meeting some new lamb friends and settling into the shed, this little fighter wasted no time smashing down a bottle. The kids named him Tiny, but his determination to live was anything but small.

Today, we look back on his story with pride, knowing every little life we save is a victory worth celebrating. 💓

Do you remember Tiny’s journey? Share your memories below!
