Want your business to be the top-listed Pet Store/pet Service?
Working in a general practice clinic during my career, often times we had such a heavy case load of pets to perform services on, I felt rushed to get them done. Often times I wished that I had more time to dedicate towards performing nail trims and other procedures that didn’t increase anxiety and stress in the patient. Over the years, I have had an innate ability to calm an anxious pet, or one that was fearful by holding them in a comforting way. I utilize a less is more approach to restraint techniques, positive reinforcement, and keeping my energy calm when handling them for procedures. I have always enjoyed cutting nails, getting them short without cutting in to the quick and getting them done quickly without causing too much stress to the pet or the owner. Being in vet med for 22 years has allowed me to develop my skills in to a service that I can provide for both the pet and their owner in the comfort and familiarity of their own home. I am also a Licensed Veterinary Technologist and Level 2 Fear Free Certified in the state of Tennessee (currently working on Level 3 and Elite). As the name states, I am proficient in handling all small animals, exotics, pocket pets and birds.
Busy practices have difficulty dedicating a lot of time towards procedures like nail trims, ear cleanings, a**l gland expressions etc. because they are triaging more involved cases saving lives. Sometimes traveling to the clinic can cause fear, anxiety and stress in both the pet and the owner to get their nails trimmed. Vet offices are scary to most pets, there's other animals, loud noises or other stressed animals vocalizing their discomfort. Often times, conflicting schedules can contribute to pushing back the need for nail care, medication administration demonstrations or ear cleaning. Most pet owners are hesitant to cutting nails because they don’t know where the quick starts and don’t want to hurt their pet. The pet then associates pain with a nail trim and it may be difficult to even get near the feet to perform another one. Maybe the owners need some help by demonstration of how to clean the ears effectively and safely. How to medicate their pet safely. The list can go on depending what the needs of the pets are and the level of comfort of the owners.
This is how I can help. Utilizing calming energy, pheromones, treats, toys and touch, I can determine what your pet values and help them be more comfortable in allowing me to trim their nails with little to no restraint. Allowing time for me to get to know them by making friends first and associate something yummy if they value treats ( as long as they are allowed to have treats), a certain toy or physical touch to trim their nails with very little fear, stress or anxiety. Performing the procedure more on their terms, following their lead and paying attention to body language in order to give them a break to release any anxiety that may occur during the process. Or giving the owner a break to do the same. :) A lot of pets respond to their owners energy as well and can cause the animal to be more stressed if the owner is really stressed. They are our little emotional sponges. If my experience and knowledge can be of service to you, please contact me for an appointment to meet you and your critter. :0) Have a pawsitive day!
