It’s that time once again. School is starting for my littles on Aug 7. Both my kiddos are active this year and I have to transport my son to and from school. So business hours will be adjusted according to their schedules. I love what I do but I am my kids 1 constant in their lives.

Starting Aug 12, hours will be M- 9am -3pm, T- 9 am-3 pm, W- 9am-3pm , TH-9am -3pm, 5pm-7pm, F-9am- 3pm , 5pm-7pm.

Times will change in Oct when my schedule changes. I have alot of re-occurring appts and open times fill fast. If you can’t find an opening online, call/text me and I will add you to my cancellation list. As always, thank your for your support. I will send out an email for those that don’t have FB or IG. I have the best clients! 💜☯️🐾

Just a friendly reminder. Please keep your appt day and time. I have a cancellation list but cannot reschedule you until aug.

Please also note that same day cancellations incur a $25 charge. It’s super hard to fill an open slot on such short notice. I have had a couple of cancellations while in route to the location. Please give a 24 hour notice. Have a pawsitive day. ☯️💜🐾

***************WARNING NOTICE JULY 4TH HOLIDAY**************

We had 87 pets come into the shelter in the days after 4th of July last year in 2023! I don't believe we need to remind everyone how many kennels we have.

We are begging that everyone please take the time to make sure your pets are secure over the next week. Please take steps to protect your pets. Here are some tips to start using now!

> Be sure your pet is microchipped or is at least wearing a collar
with an ID tag with your contact information. AND be sure you
have updated their microchip information.

> Be sure to have an updated photo of your pet and a photo
of your pet with you and/or a family member as a means of
identification.

> Create a safe space for your pet in the home, especially those
pets who are sensitive to the fireworks and loud booms. Make
a spot where they can hide that is insulated as best as possible
from outside noise. Good time to have the kids help build a
small fort!

> Exercise your pet early in the day to help them rest better in the
evening.

> Encourage guests, family members, kids to help keep your pet
distracted during fireworks to lessen their stress.

> If your pet does require medications such as sedatives during
this time, be sure their prescriptions are filled.

> Be sure to supervise your pets when they go out during the
fireworks in case they become scared or startled.

> Check your fences and gates on your property to be sure there
are not any areas where your pet will try to escape through. We
would highly recommend padlocking any gates during this time
just to be sure they do not accidently get left open.

> DO NOT leave your pet tied out on a tether during the July 4th
Holiday. Dogs will find a way to break those tethers to get
away. We have countless pets who were left tethered outside
and were able to escape.

The best course of action to take as a pet owner during this time is to simply keep your pets indoors, away from windows, and in a location that will insulate them from the loud fireworks outside.

Our staff dreads this time of year due to the number of animals that come into our facility and the number of calls our officers will need to respond to. So please help our pets and our staff and keep tabs on your pets this July 4th Holiday!

Should your pet become lost or missing on July 4th or the days preceding or following the holiday, make sure to take these steps to ensure your pet is reunited with you:

- Go out and attempt to look for your pet, do not take for granted
they will just return home or expect Animal Control or someone
else to go look for your pet.
- Post photos of your pet on the lost and found pages
and check those pages frequently to see if someone has found
your pet.
- Fill out a lost report on our Animal Control website
www.mcgtn.org/animal-control
- Come into the shelter frequently to see if your pet has been
brought to the shelter.
- Communicate with your neighbors and friends to let them know
your pet is missing and have a means for them to
communicate with you should they find your pet.
- Notify your Veterinary clinic as well we often have pets that
are brought to a local vet clinic that may be in the same area.

Last trim for these two pups after serving them for 2.5 years. Rocky and Dixie were progress pups. They are both high anxiety hyper- reactive. Rocky does awesome in the rig and food driven. Dixie has to have her mom kiss her repeatedly on the head for me to trim. These two are my why dogs. I hope they are able to find someone in MS to take good care of their feet. Sad to see them go! 😭 Thank you to The jacobson’s for choosing me to service your pups on a regular basis. ❤️

Love this idea. Fireworks can cause sheer panic in dogs. Dogs hear noises on a totally different level and way more than we do. Fireworks are loud and scary. Our dogs don’t understand what they’re about.

Please be considerate of them & your neighbors dogs.
Be sure their ID tags are on & current.
Check and secure your fences.
Be sure to remind guests to watch the doors. Get your dog microchipped.
Provide them a safe space to hide in.
Get a noise machine to help.
And if your dog really, really struggles, talk to your vet about medication that would help get them through. There’s no shame in doing all we can to help our dogs through it all.

Get your self and your dog prepared now so you aren’t dealing with more stress during that time.

📣📣🙌🙌🙌BIG ANNOUNCEMENT 🥳👏🍾🎈

As of July 1st we will be open 7 days a week!!!!!!!!!

Not only will we be open 7 days a week but we will be extending our hours and will be open from 11am - 11pm everyday!!

On average we are seeing 20-30 patients at our clinic between 11-8 at this time, and still getting lots of calls even when we are closed. I know there is a need to extend our hours and be able to offer even more services than we do now.

I was able to find an amazing, emergency trained veterinarian to make this plan a reality. I know you all will love her as much as I do! We are practically one in the same, and we share the same core values!

We have hired more support staff, and will be ready as of July 1st.

I am so excited to share this news with all of you, and please spread the word so we can help as many as we can!

Picture is a typically spicy kitty that was so comfortable in our fear free room she decided to take a nap!

Being a career LVT and having worked in GP for almost two decades, I can attest to the huge interruptions to work flow that these outside pharmacies can be.

Calling and being on hold that long to approve a script is super inefficient and frustrating on our end. Back in the day I would have a stack of chewy approval forms for my DVM to sign at the end of the day that they faxed in. Calling scripts in is obsolete now. My P*P has a portal for scripts, why should a veterinary practice have to call in?

Something this small can create a huge amount of stress on the DVM because they genuinely want to take care of all of their clients needs. 💜☯️

I have to announce a policy change for both the urgent care and mobile sides of the practice.

We can no longer work with Chewy Pharmacy or call scripts into local pharmacies. Now before everyone panics let me explain…

Over the past few months, I have been paying attention to how much time working with these outside pharmacies has cost us, and it is astronomical.

Chewy used to have an online portal that we could easily log in at our convenience and approve/deny medications, or worst case scenario they would send us an email that we could also deal with when we had time. This is no longer the case… now they call my clinic all day long and I must stop everything I am doing to get on the phone immediately or they will deny the script. When they do this, not only does the client/pet not get their medication, but it makes my clinic look bad. They do not allow us to call back when we have time. This takes me away from the patients that are in my building. I then have angry clients that I have to calm down, then call chewy put in another approval which depending on how long I stay on hold can take 30 minutes or more. Unfortunately, I just can not run business this way.
Calling medications into human pharmacies is the same scenario. We call, wait on hold for 30+minutes.

We have our own online pharmacy for this exact reason. It works the same as chewy does, but it is integrated with our software and is seamless. No phone calls, no being placed on hold, just click a button.

If clients still want to use Chewy and human pharmacies, that is of course fine, but as of June 1st you will be required to come pick up a paper script and send it to chewy or take it to a pharmacy of your choice. There will be a 24hr turn around time for this. I will write out these script AFTER I am done for the day seeing all the urgent cases that walk in the door.

These scripts will also have a cost of $5 for any medication that is available through my online pharmacy to cover the time it takes to write them/and the script paper it is written on which costs money. This will be for things like chronic medications, heartworm/flea/prevention. What will not be covered under this change will be medication through a compounding pharmacy. These will be at no charge because they are done online.

My accountant calculated that it costs my practice $5/minute to handle outside pharmacies. Between looking up the pet, medication, checking if bloodwork is needed, staff talking to me for approval, sitting on hold etc. As a small, growing business I just can not justify continuing to do this. Veterinarians make no profit from chewy, and when you break it down financially this is not sustainable.

With the economy the way it is, everyone is pinching pennies and we can be no different if we want to continue to be able to buy new equipment, medications and grow.

I hope that people will understand that treating the patients in front of me has to take priority over talking to a pharmacy that calls unexpectedly.

Want to give a shout out to Mr. Nathan, Ms Shelby, Falen (sp?) and Lucy 🐶 Cabin Hill Farm at 4221 Lylewood Rd. Indian Mound for sharing their farm with the surrounding community for local 🍓 picking. 💜

Took my fam here today, filled our buckets past the brim with sweet, green farmed strawberries that “popped” off the vines. Purchased some homemade 🍓 jam and a t-shirt. I’m all about supporting small local businesses.

This farm is a labor of love for this family and it shows. The plants are happy and healthy!! Follow their page for the hours that they’re open.

School is almost out and summer hours are approaching. This summer my kids are in summer sports with practices in the evenings. Evening appts will be limited and wonky depending on the day.

I’ve turned in to a sports mom and have to shuttle the wee ones to practices M/T/ TH/F starting Tues. May 7th. All evening appts will start at 6ish- 7pm. These appts have to be quick K9 trims and cats. If you already have a standing evening appt., I’ll need your grace and flexibility. Thank you to everyone for your continuous business and support. 💜🐾 🚌

Please say a prayer and keep my clients family in your thoughts. Their auto shop had a fire and they lost everything. The most important being these two babies.

They were shop cats. I bathed and trimmed their nails once a month to keep them from ingesting too much auto shop stuff from self grooming. These two kitties were my clients world. Puss never met a stranger and was the shop greeter. Angel just chilled on the desk or couch. Angel tolerated (grumpily) me giving him a bath. But he always would forgive with a churu.

These two kitties were special to me as well. I’m heartbroken for this family that has had a rough couple of months with multiple tragedies 🙏

My story...

Working in a general practice clinic during my career, often times we had such a heavy case load of pets to perform services on, I felt rushed to get them done. Often times I wished that I had more time to dedicate towards performing nail trims and other procedures that didn’t increase anxiety and stress in the patient. Over the years, I have had an innate ability to calm an anxious pet, or one that was fearful by holding them in a comforting way. I utilize a less is more approach to restraint techniques, positive reinforcement, and keeping my energy calm when handling them for procedures. I have always enjoyed cutting nails, getting them short without cutting in to the quick and getting them done quickly without causing too much stress to the pet or the owner. Being in vet med for 22 years has allowed me to develop my skills in to a service that I can provide for both the pet and their owner in the comfort and familiarity of their own home. I am also a Licensed Veterinary Technologist and Level 2 Fear Free Certified in the state of Tennessee (currently working on Level 3 and Elite). As the name states, I am proficient in handling all small animals, exotics, pocket pets and birds.

Busy practices have difficulty dedicating a lot of time towards procedures like nail trims, ear cleanings, a**l gland expressions etc. because they are triaging more involved cases saving lives. Sometimes traveling to the clinic can cause fear, anxiety and stress in both the pet and the owner to get their nails trimmed. Vet offices are scary to most pets, there's other animals, loud noises or other stressed animals vocalizing their discomfort. Often times, conflicting schedules can contribute to pushing back the need for nail care, medication administration demonstrations or ear cleaning. Most pet owners are hesitant to cutting nails because they don’t know where the quick starts and don’t want to hurt their pet. The pet then associates pain with a nail trim and it may be difficult to even get near the feet to perform another one. Maybe the owners need some help by demonstration of how to clean the ears effectively and safely. How to medicate their pet safely. The list can go on depending what the needs of the pets are and the level of comfort of the owners.

This is how I can help. Utilizing calming energy, pheromones, treats, toys and touch, I can determine what your pet values and help them be more comfortable in allowing me to trim their nails with little to no restraint. Allowing time for me to get to know them by making friends first and associate something yummy if they value treats ( as long as they are allowed to have treats), a certain toy or physical touch to trim their nails with very little fear, stress or anxiety. Performing the procedure more on their terms, following their lead and paying attention to body language in order to give them a break to release any anxiety that may occur during the process. Or giving the owner a break to do the same. :) A lot of pets respond to their owners energy as well and can cause the animal to be more stressed if the owner is really stressed. They are our little emotional sponges. If my experience and knowledge can be of service to you, please contact me for an appointment to meet you and your critter. :0) Have a pawsitive day!
