Horses don’t only exist to be ridden.
People can enjoy having horses for groundwork, companionship and enjoying life together.
Not all horses are suited for riding, be it due to mental or physical issues, and that doesn’t change the fact that they still have value as a living and breathing animal.
Not all humans want to ride or are physically or mentally capable of riding and they are still absolutely valid as equestrians and horse people.
I think that the horse world needs to de-prioritize riding because it has gotten to the point where people who are taking it slow with their horses, or opting not to ride at all, are made to feel uncomfortable or like they need to provide a justification for not riding their horse when it isn’t anyone’s business.
Riding is great and can be fun and enriching for both horse and human….
BUT SO CAN OTHER THINGS.
Other people opting not to ride for whatever reason does not devalue the decisions of those who choose to ride.
So, let’s get comfortable with the idea of not viewing it as compulsory to ride if someone enjoys horses and recognize the fact that horse lovers of all types exist, whether they ride or not.
Recognizing this fact can make the horse world feel a lot more welcoming and comfortable to people who would love to participate as fellow horse lovers but are made to feel as outsiders because they don’t prioritize riding as much or at all.
Horses are so much more than just mounts and I think there is so much beauty in the ability to appreciate them for everything that they are.
