Farm chores with the boy. He isn’t much help when it comes to transferring the alfalfa from truck to trailer, but to watch him sit in the hay trailer, watch us do the chores, and take in the farm is a memory we won’t soon forget.

Meet Boone!

As our farm grows larger, the time has come to add another livestock guardian dog to the mix. Lily and Daisy now have a little brother, Boone, to teach and eventually help guard the farm and all of our animals.

Our next generation of is finally out of their hiding place.

With no pesticides and no rodenticides, our cats are our farm’s first line of defense against mice, rats, gophers, and other small animals that would like to get to our fruit and animals feed.

These little ones will learn from the older cats how to be top notch mousers!

Life on our little farm has been filled with so many learning experiences. Becoming connected to our food by raising, nurturing, ensuring the best quality of life we can, and then harvesting them to feed us and friends and family has been such an experience.

Today, I got to share that experience with my friends by teaching them how to butcher two of our free range, organically fed, and humanely raised chickens and prepare them for their family.

Our chickens at Sweetwater Heritage Farm are respected and honored from the day they hatch to butcher day and after.

I know, and can be confident, that our animals are raised with good food, sunshine, space, and a good life.

The best thing I heard today was “your animals all look happy.”

I love our farm and will cherish our time we are blessed enough to stay here.

The vegetable and herb garden is still growing strong. Basil, tomatoes, mint, carrots, thyme, celery, and snap peas are all growing together in our raised beds. Since Tiffany has taken over this section of the farm, everything is looking a lot happier. Taylor will stick with the orchard and chasing sheep.

The farm’s next generation of organic pest control. We do not use any chemical pesticides or rodenticides on the farm. We had a huge rat, mouse, gopher, and squirrel problem when we first started. After rescuing our first feral cats and giving them a new home on the farm, within months, we noticed a difference. Now, it’s rare that we even see a mouse or a rat. They have also saved our orchard and garden this year from gophers and squirrels. Looking forward to watching these three kittens learn from the older cats, make friends with our enormous livestock dogs, and become expert mousers!

Happy ! Our livestock guardian dogs are exactly that; the guardians of our farm. With coyotes, bobcats, mountain lions, and birds of prey all in their natural habitat around us, our dogs let them know that we appreciate their role in the ecosystem, but to stay away from our farm animals. No poison or traps for predators on this farm! We love our Lily and Daisy and couldn’t have the farm without them.
