All good dogs sit (or lay down) before they get fed. Willie has become one of the pack, but will soon leave us for his forever home, where I’m sure he’ll be loved and loved.

Today Willie Wonka and I spent some time in . I guess he thought Designer Dawgs was a place for fancy dogs like him. Boy was he confused when I bought their hotdog (you gotta try it). He just lay on the cool floor enjoying their A/C as I enjoyed my awesome hotdog!

Willie Wonka had quite the outing today. We went to for some socialization. He did great on the towpath, but there wasn’t too much going on there, so we went into town. He got to relax in front of Vecere Jewelers, and then got some air conditioning as well as some Key Lime Ice Cream at Peace Pie World. He’s definitely enjoying being out.

Who is Willly’s target family?

Willie is not ready for a home with small children. He doesn’t know his own size and he leads with teeth and he can JUMP!

He needs a seasoned owner who understands how to speak dog. He is easily excited and will need a home that will teach him how to be calm.

Willie likes friends but he plays rough. He would probably do best with the dog about the same size as him. Right now he is about 75 pounds.

He likes car rides but make sure that he’s secured in by a vest and seatbelt or he may try to jump out of the window.

He really likes to take long walks. Whether we are in the woods, over the bridge, or on the path he is happiest when he is out and about. He liked his trip to Home Depot where he got plenty of pets.

Willie is crate trained.

Willie is not ready for a first time dog owner. He also doesn’t like to share toys and treats. He tolerates it from our alpha female but it has caused some ruckus between his foster brother and him.

He knows how to sit and likes his treats. He is not food aggressive with humans but can be with other dogs.

He is on 2 cups twice a day of a high-end food that cost $66 a bag and lasts about two weeks.

He is now heartworm negative and is fully up-to-date with his vaccinations and he is neutered. The terrible hu***ng that he came with no longer exists and we are excited about that. He may still try to hump another dog for dominance but not the way he did when we first got him and certainly not often.

He is not a dog that can live on a farm. He is not farm animal friendly.

As far as cats go, that’s a case by case. I think if there was a cat that was not dog savvy and ran the chase would be on but we have very dog savvy cats and he seems to be smart enough to steer clear of them. Our one eared Siamese decided the bed in W***y’s crate was where he wanted to be and W***y wouldn’t get near him.

One of the nicest things about Willie is his personality. He really is very sweet and he definitely has an off button and will just want to relax with you. He really wants to be with his humans.

He doesn’t know what being a house dog really means. He does seem to be housebroken which has been fantastic, but like any other dog if he doesn’t get out often enough there will be accidents.

We will be waiting patiently for W***y’s forever family. We are in no rush to place him with the possibility of him coming back or not being loved the way he has been since April.

Willie will need work. Real work. There will need to be real training and real expectation setting for him to thrive. He will only meet the goals through consistent work which can be both time consuming and expensive.

We want only the best home for our golden boy. It’s what he deserves.

We hope you will share his post so we can start searching for his forever family.

He has already been turned down by one perspective family who was not ready to take on a dog quite like him.

We are happy to meet potential families that understand who he really is and the obligation that comes with adopting a dog like him.

This morning as the day after Willie was neutered. We are also hoping to get some traction on the medication we need to treat his positive heartworm test. He is currently on some medication for discomfort but he seems to be doing well.

Yesterday Kitty spent some time working with Willie walking on a flat collar. Huge promise. Easy correction. He’s a looky-loo for sure but there’s so much to see. Super encouraging.
