Online micro-communities are amazing! Zonkie's human mom and dad belong to one for Pokemon Go players within their neighborhood. One of the members is gutting a house to sell and has recently been offering an 'item of the day' to the other members. Yesterday was a giant stuffed sheep. Today, that sheep lives and cuddles with Good-Girl Daizy.

Even the healthiest of guys sometimes catch a cold! Zonkie eats well, gets supplements, and gets exercise and mental stimulation. But today he is seeing the vet after a bout of Kennel Cough (dogs get this like preschoolers catch colds!) which morphed into pneumonia! He’a doing much better after some antibiotics (sometimes you just need that extra bit of oomph to kick it in the tail) and is here to see his friends at Sam Bass Veterinary Wellness. We ❤️ Dr. Murphy and his staff! Zonkie just thinks this is the place with the good pets and the yummy treats!

Zonkie is a bit confused, but I think these are hilarious! Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter has sent out several of these today - earlier a ferret (that looked like a parrot).

Zonkie wants you to know...

Because cats are ineffective drinkers, they need to be fed food that provides a good amount of intracellular moisture. The best way to ensure proper hydration is by feeding raw cat food or you could top their kibble with something like raw goat milk!

No other dogs? No kids? You could meet your best friend…

ATTENTION ABR COMMUNITY:

With broken hearts, we must announce we have had to make the gut-wrenching decision to CLOSE our intake for the time being.

That means that dogs who urgently need us - dogs on euthanasia lists, dogs chained in backyards with no guarantee that they'll eat today, dogs suffering from illnesses their owners can't afford to save them from- can't come here.

Chester was one of those dogs. We took a chance saving Chester from his owners with only a temporary foster lined up, but we had to do it. Chester would have DIED if we didn't intervene. Not only was his owner planning to have him euthanized, but looking at him, it's clear he could have soon succumbed to starvation.

Right now, though, we have some dogs already within rescue who still desperately need a long-term foster or an adopter.. and they have no one.

No one has stepped forward for Chester. No one has stepped forward for Cleo. No one for Louie, and no one for Elliott......Not one person.

We often try to spare our community the utter sadness that goes along with rescue. But the truth is, night after night, we go to bed exhausted both physically and emotionally. What we see on the back end is often too awful to tell. We've watched several dogs lose their lives this summer. Die. Slip through our fingers, though we're working so hard to get them to safety. Why? Because as much as we push and as much as we fight, we have nowhere for them to go. And their time runs out.

At the moment, we are in dire need of homes with no dogs and no kids. It's a very tall order, as we well know. But we are begging because we're desperate.

We will give you supplies, and we will give you support; we will do all we can to make fostering a wonderful, rewarding experience for you. But, we just really, really need YOU.
