On World Chocolate day a friendly reminder that chocolate is toxic to dogs. Chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine, which are similar compounds and cause similar clinical signs such as an increase in heart rate, blood pressure, agitation, tremors, and seizures.
While rarely fatal, chocolate ingestion can result in significant illness. Dogs metabolize theobromine and caffeine differently than people, making them more sensitive to the chemicals’ effects.
If you pet injest chocolate, contact your veterinarian or Pet Poison Helpline at 1-800-213-6680 to see if a poisonous amount of chocolate has been ingested. If a toxic amount was ingested, immediate evaluation by a veterinarian will be recommended. The sooner treatment begins, the better your dog's prognosis and the less costly the treatment.

“We live on the dash between our birth date and our death date.”
And with sweet, happy Dasher, he is making the most of his dash. From homeless and compromised street stray to living with a family, receiving love and kindness - he is simply joyful. He’s really the bestest boi: Dasher is house trained, walks well on a leash and enjoys car rides. Oh and love. He gives and receives love all through his dash.
Want to share your dash with this happy boi?

Welcome to Love
🎀 𝑀𝑒𝑒𝓉 𝑀𝒶𝒷𝑒𝓁 🎀
There was an urgent plea: an hoarding situation, so many dogs in such terrible condition, living in filth and without the benefit of enough food, much less healthcare. Law enforcement was desperate to find safe places for them, and GPAT was one of the rescues that answered the call.
Mabel is two years old, and has already had more than one litter. Her puppies, old enough to be adopted out, were also pulled by a rescue. She is severely emaciated, and we will discover more tomorrow, after a visit to one of GPAT's veterinary partners, about her full medical picture.
Despite her condition, and the abrupt change in her life - likely pulled from the only life she has known - Mabel is sweet as can be. She loves attention, and smiles and wags her tail, despite probably horribly itchy skin. Mabel is resilient; Mabel is a survivor.
GPAT will ensure that Mabel receives the best care, no matter what is discovered in her medical exam. We also promise that she will never be asked to breed again. Her time now will be full of gentle voices, comfortable couches, adoration and plentiful healthy food.
To get Mabel back to full health and ready for adoption, we will spend the resources she needs. To accomplish this for dogs like Mabel, we depend on the generosity of our supporters.
If Mabel touches your heart, and you want to help us with our life saving mission, know that 100% of any funds raised go toward to our dogs. Donations are tax deductible:

GPAT is so very worried about our lovely girl Cara, who escaped from her new family's back yard nearly one month ago. She has already had such a hard life, and she is, no doubt, extremely frightened. Yet, we know that if we can just find her, we can continue healing her heart - we can help her know that she will always be missed, and we will never stop looking -or loving - her.
If you see Cara, and are not experienced in trapping extremely intelligent street dogs (uh, her mix: Great Pyrenees, Belgian Malinois, German Shepherd, Siberian Husky and Alaskan Malamut ... she's literally a genius), we beg that you please do not chase her, or call her name: she is a girl who has seen too much to immediately trust strangers.
Instead, if you know an experienced person in rescue who knows how to trap, involve them and always, please, call:

🥰 𝓟𝔂𝓻𝓮𝓷𝓮𝓮𝓼 𝓢𝓽𝓻𝓾𝓽 🥰 Elvy is enjoying a walk with his foster mom and showing off how beautiful he is after a bath and brush out. Talk about a handsome floof…that’s Elvy and he has the personality to match those good looks.
Elvy is happy and healthy after lots of TLC from his foster mom after he was found with a nasty stab wound. We are extremely grateful to the fosters that help with these medical cases and insure they receive the care they need.
Elvy is a young adult dog that absolutely adores hanging out with and snuggling with the kiddos. He’s a huge cuddler! He is also potty trained, walks well on a leash, rides well in a car and gets along with other dogs. Elvy’s foster reports that he is laid back, very sweet and is a super easy dog to have around.
This boy is ready for his perfect family and forever home to call his very own! He’s a true gem! To adopt Elvy: www.greatpyreneesadvocatesoftexas.org

🤣 𝐒𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐍𝐢𝐤𝐤𝐨 🤣 This beautiful boy is enjoying some playtime with his foster mom while he awaits a loving, forever home with a family who will appreciate his bouncy, curious, fun loving personality.
When we got Nikko from the shelter, he had mange, he was extremely thin and had no manners! He has come a long way under the care of his foster who has provided him lots of love and positive direction.
Nikko’s pyrfect family would be in a home with Great Pyrenees and/or large dog experience. He is a very sweet, busy boy needing to continue with his positive training and enrichment. Nikko is potty trained, good with other dogs with proper introductions and he is a bit slow warming up to strangers.

Gilmore Girls 🤍💜💕
💕 𝗚𝗶𝗹𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 💕
Thanks to their amazing foster, Rory, Emily, and Lorelai are thriving in foster care! They have gone from being so timid after being dumped, to tail wags after being shown love and care.
🤍 Rory - Rory came in with the worst body condition. Poor baby was emaciated and starving under all of her floof. Now, she knows she is adored by her foster mom and never has to worry about not getting her next meal!
💜 Emily - Emily came to us with an injury on her face. It was swollen on one side, and her eye burst had a burst blood vessel. She is now happy, healing, and care-free!
💕 Last but not least, Lorelai - This gal was the most timid, hiding in the corner of the puppy pen. But boy, has she come a long way! Turns out, Lorelai is the loud one out of her sisters! She is really coming out of her shell and flourishing, she just needed time, patience, and a lot of love.
Huge thank you to Candice for fostering these precious babies. They couldn’t be in better hands!
🐾 If you’re interested in adding one of these gals to you’re family once they’re available, please visit https://www.greatpyreneesadvocatesoftexas.org/info/adoption to fill out an application.

Bannon the Great Pyrenees!
✅ 𝒢𝑜𝑜𝒹 𝐵𝑜𝓎, 𝐵𝒶𝓃𝓃𝑜𝓃 ✅ Meet Bannon, an abandoned dog that had been roaming the streets for quite a long time. He was extremely skinny and matted.
This is an example of some of the work our fosters do to help get these kiddos ready for their new lives and forever homes. Here, Bannon is working on leash skills and some decompression walks. We learned today that this sweet, sweet fella is good with cats. Currently, Bannon is beginning to work on some basic cues like sit, down and stay.
Bannon is an amazing dog with the most lovely temperament. He is about 2 years old and is a big, big boy.
Bannon is not quite ready for his forever home yet because his foster momma wants to work with him a bit more on leash manners and general obedience. Now is the time to get your application in for Bannon! He will be ready for his new forever before we know it!
