What a beautiful way of explaining something I have felt deeply in my journey training teams to work together. From my own personal experience with Service Dogs I have raised and my own. I have believed less and less in the term "dogs love unconditionally" it has felt like a statement made out of a place of narcissism. This article has helped my frame this feeling in a new light and added depth the what I already felt. Dog's shouldn't owe us love, it should be earned from a place of respect and friendship, continously tended to.

It is possible to have a relationship based on mutual respect, free from anything that remotely resembles sensory deprivation, and still have a dog who will work his heart out for you and even more importantly, with you.

We have played with the predatory sequence in our dogs to make certain parts more or less prominent, so they could perform certain jobs for us.
When we look at breed traits and which part of this sequence our dogs like to perform best, we can then look at ways to better fulfil them.

Let’s get comfortable with the uncomfortable! We can’t always do it right, sometimes our actions might increase undesirable behaviour in our dogs.

The first thing to help this is to realise it. Then we are almost there. Working with behaviour challenges is as much about working on our own reactions as our dogs.

Because it’s a journey and the best part is we get to go through it together!

Real time training. First time attempting remote retrieval. Not the smoothest but he worked through it with some assistance. He is a great sport and is a very forgiving learner even when my setups aren't well layed out or broken down far enough for better success.
I would never have thought I would be working with a forgiving terrier that likes retrieval work! He is a special guy thank you RDRR Cairn Terriers for having such a fun line of spunky pups!

It's way more fun sharing training bloopers. Don't take puppy training so seriously. Also lock yourself in a cat free/low distraction room to get successful repetitions and learning new behaviors.

Might not have duration down but the fact that he went back to get his flowers when asked 😍 this boy enjoys retrieving more then any other terrier i have worked with so far. A great trait of his line 😁

Real time place training working on adding distance.
Pro multitasking relaxing and training in the evenings.
Helps with the patience part while puppy figures it out on his own.
