With an ice storm warning upon us, just a reminder that cold weather can be dangerous for our beloved furbabies as well as strays that may live near you.
*Refrain from leaving your pets outside other than potty breaks or unattended during freezing weather. Also, do not leave a pet unattended in a vehicle during extreme temperatures.
*During extreme, harsh conditions, designate a safe space inside if possible with potty pads, especially for elderly pets that have difficulty going outside during cold weather.
*Bundle them up! Pet sweaters can be cute but also are extremely functional, especially for small or short-haired dogs that tend to get cold easily. Our dogs love wearing sweaters in the winter!
* If your pets absolutely cannot come in, please provide adequate shelter and care during harsh weather. It's the right thing to do.
*Beware of vehicle hazards. Tap the hood of your car to scare off any stray kitties that may have taken refuge under the car. Pay attention to anti-freeze leaks as well, as these are lethal to animals!
*And last but not least, don’t forget the strays! If you have extra blankets or towels and/or plastic totes you can spare, create a safe space outside from harsh weather for any stray furry friends to find shelter. We have turned totes with lids upside down before and cut doors in the side with a blanket in the bottom for stray our outdoor cats that won't come inside.
Stay safe and warm everyone!
