Don't mind the Spaniel 🤣

Brian, Gipsy, and Rizzo, son, daughter, and mother.

Not such little Beans now.

Hard to believe sometimes that they are still very much puppies at 16mnth old.

Both are doing superb, I'll do individual updates shortly.

Updates from the other Beans are all good... and everyone is just where they should be

I have had countless enquiries as to if and when they'll be another litter.... in short, yes, there will be, no, it won't be Rigs & Rizzo.... but I'll do a separate update by the end of the week 😊

For now, we're enjoying a week off while the van is in for a little work doing 😀

Teenage Rebelion

The Beans are now 8 months old, and the teenage challenges are in full swing.

Previously respected boundaries are now forgotten.

Simple requests for basic behaviours can fall on deaf ears.

And you can sometimes wonder if you have ceased existing to them.

All completely normal, and guess what.... even happens in my house.

It will pass. it's all part of the learning curve for both The Beans and you.

It's important to stick your guns with them but also not push too hard. Keep training short and sweet, 5 mins a few times a day is all that is needed.

Play... lots of fun and games, again, short sessions, stop before they get bored and wonder off.

I promise, one day you'll look back on this time and chuckle.

We're all in this together ❤️

We hope the Beans have all behaved themselves for their first Christmas.

We're at that age.....

6 months is a very testing time...

The pups seem to 'forget' everything they've been taught so far and try to push boundaries previously respected... all perfectly normal

Hormones start to play a massive part in development, the Girls will be getting ready to have their first season, and the Boys will be experiencing a raise is testosterone, both of which contribute to behaviour and development

It's really important that you remain consistent with your training.

If you feel you are in any way struggling or would just like to bend an ear, my inbox is ALWAYS open 😉

If you feel you need a little more support in training, I am always happy to help, but I would highly recommend you take a look at the guys

You'll find lots of options for training, both in person and online. You might even spot a Beans or two 😉

Where has the time gone 😕

The Beans are almost 6mnth old already 😲

It's so easy to forget that they are really still very much babies.

6mnth is a bit like a toddler hitting the terrible twos. There's going to be some back chat, temper tantrums and paddy throwing. All perfectly normal.

How you handle it.... Will shape your future

Stick to your guns, no matter how challenging or frustrating it may seem, the difficulties will pass.

My Girl is back......

It's 5 months since this beautiful Mamma brought 12 little Beans into the world.

Pregnancy, Birth and Motherhood takes a lot out of them, both physically and mentally.

She's just had her first season and is now back in full coat, and looking 👌

Mentally, the whole process took its toll... while she did the most amazing job of raising her Bean's, I won't lie. It was tough to see the change in her.

BUT.... She's back to her usual prebean, happy, playful, cheeky, beautiful lady.

I will be forever grateful and proud of this lady, and each and every Bean thats now out there bring so much happiness and putting their mark on the world 🌎

Let's talk Double Trouble aka

Littermate Syndrome - does it even exist?? ....YES IT DOES

Many people often think buying two dogs from a Litter is far better for them...and the pups..... you'd be wrong .... and any breeder willing to sell you two without question should be avoided.

Doesnt that make me a hypocrite???

Yes, we have kept two of The Beans ....
Brian who is mine, and Gipsy who is my Daughters.

BUT.... the majority of the time

TRAINING IS DONE SEPARATELY
WALKS ARE DONE SEPARATELY
TRAVEL IS DONE SEPARATELY
FEEDING IS DONE SEPARATELY
PLAY IS DONE SEPARATELY
FOUNDATIONS AND HANDLER RELATIONSHIP IS LAID SEPARATELY ...you get the picture

We don't want them depending on or finding more value in each other or any of the other dogs in the house.

Yes, they spend time together in the home, play with each other or with the other dogs but we limit and monitor.

Does this mean that there isn't the possibilities of issues further down the line...absolutely not. But we are doing absolutely everything to prevent it.

Hobbs would like to remind The Bean Growers....

Bonfire Night is round the corner, that means Fireworks 🎆

From around 3 weeks of age The Beans had a background soundtrack playing via Alexa, that included

Fireworks
Children Playing/Crying/Laughing
City Noises/Sirens/Car Engines
Parties/Loud People

These were played at varying points throughout the day, during play, mealtimes and even sleep, so they became 'Normal' everyday noises to the Pups.

Growing Beans is busy business and I'm sure you've been doing plenty of other things... If you haven't played background noises in a while don't panic... you can ask Alexa (or Youtube) to play Desensitisation Noises, start on a low volume and gradually increase over the coming weeks.

Make sure Bean is busy doing something fun while the sounds are playing, enjoying a Kong, licky mat, meal, play etc and hopefully come Firework time, The Beans what even notice then 😀

Ever wondered what we mean by Active Pet ???

You don't have to take part in high level sports, competitions or protection type work.

What you do have to do is fulfill and enrich your dogs life, and yours, and most importantly have fun together.

And there's sooo many options out there....

Your dog does not have to be the model citizen to begin a hobby/sport!

Lots of sports and hobbies will actually help to improve your dog’s behaviour!
⠀
Whilst some sports (like protection sports) have a foundation in obedience, helping further with that day to day issue you may have.
⠀
Many sports will also help by giving them an outlet for their genetic and biological needs.
⠀
For example… olfaction (sniffing) is a HUGE biological need for dogs, so why not harness that and give it an outlet, rather than your dog stopping every 8 seconds to sniff on walks?

There’s Tracking, trailing, Scentwork and more variations of nosework than you could probably even imagine, so there’s literally something for every dog and owner!

Why not help your dog and have fun too?

Due to extremely unfortunate circumstances this young man has found his way back to me (these will not be discussed on socials)

Having spent the past couple of weeks with him he's a little cracker, and will do well in a Sport/Working Home

He is
Crate Trained
Toilet Trained
Travels Well
Sleeps through the night, no crying or toileting in crate.

Training wise so far (this will continue whilst he's with me)

Basic Position (Sit,Down etc)
Nose Touch
Heel Work (both comp style and simple loose lead walking)
Tracking & Indicating
Focus & Engagement
Front Foot Targeting

So many environmentals and desensitisation (surfaces, loud noises Inc gunfire, fireworks etc) have been introduced with zero issues

He really is a super pup.... any interest can be expressed via DM 😊

I will add.... he is NOT FTGH, however home will come before 💷💷💷

We don't just throw em together 😉

Both Rigby & Rizzo come from some exceptional lines, with many titled sports and working dogs.

But is that enough.... 🤔

For me... No

It's important that not only genetics match, but temperament too.

Whilst genetically both dogs are strong, their temperaments differ greatly.

Rigby is all about work, been busy and generally getting things done. Rizzo, is much more of a homebird, gentle natured and loving.

For me, they compliment each other superbly 👌 ...and it shows already in The Beans

Always Opportunities 😉

Making sure my dogs are comfortable and able to deal with all manor of environments is, for me, the most important part of puppy rearing.

I won't allow my pups to go wondering off to seek attention from other people or play with random dogs.

I will however encourage them to explore and climb, sniff and approach strange object's and engange in play with me.

Socialise with the Environment 😉
