Took us a minute, but finally got a grip 🔥 first pic was taken last June in Northern California. Cut to this weekend hiking in upstate New York.

Ma realized we’ll go a lot further if I have 4 on the floor. Confidence has gone way way way up *I feel blessed* (cue Drake). I have the ecollar on for safety.

New distractions include deer & squirrels. Luckily the coyotes & people in LA prepped me to tune out the noise and stay neutral. Way more into the sights, smells, and *perspective* in this new environment.

When he's not training dogs or traveling around the world giving seminars, you can find him designing and leather making. He crafts custom leather pieces, collars, and aprons for private clients.

BUILD A BETTER BOND WITH YOUR DOG THROUGH PLAY! Tug is an interactive game and both the handler and dog have to be equally engaged in order for the game to make sense! This is a great way to build engagement and become exciting to your dog!

We've been playing tug since Ryka was a young puppy and we started training with the YOLO PUP tug at 12 weeks! It's soft and gentle on her baby teeth, so it's comfortable to bite on. She's always loved it!

How to use it:
Build prey drive and activate drive using the tug as prey. Move it around and make it game. Let the pup win. Use sounds to make it more exciting. Keep the sessions short and end on a high note. Keep pup on a leash so they can't run away with the tug.

Let’s be real - I’m not the only one with the anxiety problem 😅

Mom finally upgraded to the ‘High Anxiety, Houdini-Proof’ Impact Dog Crates and it’s made a serious impact (no pun intended).

I have an easier time settling down with the dark environment and mom feels comfortable knowing I am safe inside.

It wasn’t until recently that mom fully realized the toll training a new puppy, and fulfilling the high demands of a Belgian Malinois had on her own mental health and well being.

The crate has given her peace of mind and she is more present in her personal life without the worry of me escaping from the crate and wreaking havoc in the house (which 100% would be the case).

Our training has improved and we get to enjoy more quality time together.

When we both are fully rested and taking care of our minds and bodies, life is better all around 🖤.

It’s the little things 🖤

We’ve always practiced leash walking and heeling on the right side. Main reason was bc we lived in Los Angeles and I wanted Ryka on my right to protect her from the cars zooming by on the road.

Now we’re in NY and working on the left side heel using a barrier (obvi) and lots of reps.

*not pictured* is our training at night completely bundled up, hands freezing (even with gloves), and practicing with a ball instead of food. Ryka could go on forever if she could 😆 honestly, I have a hard time calling it quits too 🙈 *same dog*

Filming our sessions helps so much to see where the inconsistencies are. Now I get why so many *sport dog people* are so very particular with placement. Precision matters and it feels good to work towards a goal.

Cheers to new beginnings in 2021. This year has been a s**t show. COVID-19 came in like a wreckingggggg balllll & *not to sound dramatic* but life will never be the same.

Cue mom/Jillian about to steal the spotlight

My boutique marketing agency serving Beverly Hills plastic surgeons & beauty brands got rocked hard back in March when business shutdowns and stay at home orders/lock down went into effect. LA has been a bizarre place to be.

I’ve been developing and building brands for other people since 2016 and prior to that worked in entertainment.

I, much like Ryka, am a working dog. I get lost when my mind is not stimulated and I’m not working towards a goal. Having purpose is really important to me.

Ryka is a gift and has been a huge source of inspiration for me.This community is a gift as well. I’ve loved connecting with you all and making new friends along the way. Thank you for the laughs, shared struggles, and just human connection.

I’ve grown so much during this last year and using the few resources I had at home (camera, tripod, and baby girl Ryka), I created YOLO PUP.

We love you guys and thank you for following our journey, supporting our new venture, and just connecting with us over your own struggles and personal life.

We’ve been working on recall heavily the last few weeks and have been very proud of the progress — cut to one week with a backyard and more freedom... the recall is slipping.

Mom’s fault 🚨

Back to basics, here we go. New environment, new distractions, more freedom — now to tightening up those rules and boundaries.

Safety first. Excited to work with — first impression was a loose Ryka playing games outside (so embarrassing 🙈)

While we’re loving the freedom to easily let Ryka go outside to potty and come in, she’s (yet again) taking full advantage. Give an inch, she takes a mile.

Stay strict, Mama — don’t slip 😅
