Y'all. Our last regular workday of the year will be on Saturday, November 29 and girl do we have something special planned! We're rescheduling part two of the black walnut workshop and will be making frames and dyeing clothing. For the second part of the day, we'll be joined by Haley Lazerface with and Tazza P with to make some zines in and with nature! You won't wanna miss either of these, so be sure to sign up so we can feed you ✨

Join us on Saturday, November 22 to create assemblages or mandalas with natural treasures foraged from the farm. Eco-art therapist Cait Fogerty will guide participants through mindfully arranging materials, engaging in sensory grounding, and connecting with the land and each other. We will then reflect together on the creative process as well as the theme of nourishing ourselves, our communities, and the movement for collective liberation.

Join us for a two-part black walnut workshop as we gather and make drying frames in the first part and process them in part 2!

If you've been to the black walnut workshops we've hosted in the past, you know it's a crowd favorite. If you've never been you won't wanna miss it!

We'll also be celebrating the completion of the pavilion on November 1! Bring a dish to share and maybe an instrument if you have one!

Please include a list of ingredients for any food or drink you bring.

We're building a pavilion! Join us and our friend starting this Saturday, October 11 in building the structure that will eventually house an outdoor kitchen and event space!

All days are 9am-1pm at the land project, Bosque Itzpapalotl, 3241 Jonesboro Rd SE - come for as long as you'd like! RSVP at tinyurl.com/MRFallEvents so we can feed you 🌿

In general we'll be using power tools and lifting anywhere between 30-80lbs but you can opt in and out of whatever you feel comfortable.

What tools we'll be using:
The building will be made entirely out of wood and screws (besides the roof) and we will be using wood related power tools like a skill saw, sawzaw, drill, miter saw, laser level, and drafting tools.

What you can bring:
🔩 Wear clothes that are tough and you don't mind getting dirty
🔩 Note book and pencils for marking and taking notes
🔩 An open-mind to learn new things
🔩 A readiness to do some heavy lifting
🔩 Plenty of water and snacks

Sat, Oct 11: The foundation

What we'll be doing:
This day would consist of hammering out the structure.

Tues-Fri, Oct 14-17: The frame

These days will consist of framing out the structure, laying the trusses, and possibly starting on the roof.

Sat, Oct 18: The roof

On the final day we'll be finishing the roof. We'll be using drills to screw the sheet metal into the structure to form the roof.

We're are thrilled to be welcoming back .somatics for another workshop next month! If you weren't able to join us last time, here's another chance to be guided by Livvy in a somatic experience that will connect you with the land and ourselves. We hope you can join us! During our time together we'll be connecting with the Mariposas Land through somatic mindfulness practices and gentle movement. We’ll explore opening up our senses and practice listening, noticing, being with the landscape (both external and internal). What will we notice when we slow down together?

Livvy (they/them) is a q***r, non-binary, white somatics coach who believes deeply in embodiment as a pathway of liberation. They work one on one with coaching clients, create dance based art outdoors in community, and teach yoga.

Fall is here and so are these October Mariposas Rebeldes events! Hope to see you at some of these ✨

Oct 4: We're excited to be welcoming .somatics back for another somatic experience as we connect with the land a different kind of intentional way.

Oct 11-18: Join us in building a pavilion on the land! This will eventually house an outdoor kitchen and future events! More details to come.

Oct 25: Flex day! We're reserving this day for if we need more time for the pavilion build due to rain or unforeseen circumstances.

Cyanotype printing is a photographic process with UV sensitive chemicals that turn blue in the sun ☀️💙 This workshop will involve combining botanical elements with transparent negatives of resistance images to create artwork that honors ancestors in the movement for liberation and envisions a more thriving future for all.
