THIS IS MY PERSONAL OPINION,You can digest it or throw it out with the bathwater for all I care but here it is. If you are a licensed rehabber, you see every single thing that can go wrong in a wild squirrels life and you have to rescue and rehabilitate them. You know that they experience falls, car injuries, cat, fox and hawk attacks, injuries from fighting with other squirrels, eyeball ruptures, massive gashes, eaten up by botflies, I have literally seen it all because I have rescued and released about 15 squirrels now and I can tell you life in the wild is horrible for them! Meanwhile you have these licensed rehabberes who literally rehab 100's of squirrels a season and know everything telling you that you need to release all squirrels, that they live their best lives in the trees. Really? Squirrels live 3-5 paranoid filled lives in the wild and can live 15-20 in captivity with the proper care and nutrition without a fear in the world, they're safe, have a buffet of the best foods every single day, climate controlled environment and with the proper stimulation live a long and happy life! Someone please explain to me how a rehabber, (knowing all the dangers a wild squirrel faces) can humiliate someone and honestly say that you need to release a squirrel because they live their best lives in the trees? I literally have 30 paranoid squirrels come to my house to eat everyday! 2 have lost eyes and I haven't seen them again. I honestly think that the wildlife commissions make them say so in order to keep their licenses because common sense tells you something entirely different. Squirrels used to be pets in every home and even the white house until communist California started the trend if making squirrels illegal. But you can indiscriminately kill them for no reason or kill them to eat. (What kind of wrong turn in**ed hillbilly eats rodents? Do you eat rats too?) Anyway people who love squirrels and k own what loving, amazing animals they actually are need to start petitions. Start raising hell with your wildlife commissions! They work for you and their rules are supposed to benefit the people not restrict your rights! There's no reason to restrict you from owning a wild squirrel they're not even rabies vector animals! Stop being complicit and compliant! May be hard to hear but I promise you the only way theyre taking mine is over my dead body!
