Micah is a protégé of Chuck Conner, a 30+ year veteran horse trainer. She credits God for her natural talent and also for allowing her the opportunity to learn from Chuck. To understand Micah's approach and background, first we have to talk about Chuck.
Several people have reached championship level under Chuck's tutelage in several different events. He has trained both horse and rider to become World Champions in barrel racing, World Champions in pole bending, State Champions in cutting competitions (NCHA) and much more. Chuck has successfully trained horses for barrels, cutting, roping, reining, and pleasure riding. Of course, Chuck says that's only half of the work. The other half is training the person to understand the horse.
Chuck attributes his success to simply studying the horses over the years and learning from them. He studied how the Native American Indians would watch and learn from the horse's natural actions, letting the horse tell them what they needed. He teaches that this approach is necessary to form a mutual respect between the horse and trainer.
This experience and approach is what has produced many of those championship moments. Chuck trained one particular student that won two championship saddles, a State Championship title and went on to place in the top 10 in the National Cutting Horse Association (NHCA). Never mind the fact that she was deaf. Chuck reflects that this particular student was a special kind, one that had a special desire to improve every day. Her passion drove her to succeed. According to Chuck, Micah has these same qualities. The passion for training and working with horses that he has seen in Micah and the gift that she possesses to work with horses is the reason he has specifically chosen to invest his time and efforts in her, to pass on his legacy.
Micah has gone on to pair her instinctive approach with Chuck's teaching to train horses on many levels. From c**t starting to late starting and anything in between, she has produced tremendous results. She demonstrates the patience and guidance needed while working with the horse, as well as the rider, to train and finish horses at any stage.
