So, this girl... We went to Black Bear Diner for lunch to eat and train. We entered off leash, heeling by my side and went under the table as usual. A couple at one of the tables beamed smiles at Brea and made the comment "That's a real service dog". I thanked them. We ordered lunch and I got Brea a side of bacon for high value treats to train impulse control. I tore off a bite and tossed it on the floor at her feet, she didn't flinch until told OK. Placed a piece on her toes and requested focus. She looked at me for 30 seconds and I released her to get the treat. Called her out from the table in the aisle, sat her, and threw a piece on the ground again. Focus was spot on again before releasing. Placed her back under the table and did a few more impulse exercises. Little did I know that couple was watching. Brea had an audience. As we were finishing our lunch the waitress came up and said that they had paid for our lunch. I didn't know how to react. They had already left. Very proud moment. We left off leash heeling all the way to the car. Perfect experience. Whomever that couple was, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Even if a business has a “no pets” policy, it cannot deny entrance to a person with a service animal. Service animals are working animals, not pets. Do you know the two questions you’re allowed to ask in order to determine if an animal is a service animal and not a pet? To determine if an animal is a service animal, you may ask two questions:

1. Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability?
2. What work or task has the dog been trained to perform?

If you see a Service Dog across or next to their person, don't attempt to pet or interact with them.

The handler is likely having a medical episode, about to, or are recovering from one.

Let the dog do the job they were trained for.

If you want to help, maybe ask the individual from a respectful distance (at least a few feet away) if there's anything you can do for them.

If they don't respond immediately, don't push for an answer as many struggle to communicate after medical episodes and they might be mute for a bit.
