Snubdog ban has been lifted on Emirates from 1Nov-1 April 2024. This will only be allowed on certain aircrafts and a “fit to fly” certificate from your vet. No departures will be allowed between 09:00-18:00 in Dubai. Cats can depart anytime.

Before pets are allowed to be loaded they are checked-in and weighed. All their documents and dimensions are also checked. The airline makes sure that all criteria is met to ensure high standards for pet transportation. Once everything is in the clear the pets wait in the lounge untill they are loaded onto the aircraft.

This cat underwent a veterinary health check by me and an abnormality in the eye was found. The cat has responded well to treatment and a plan forward has been made to continue treatment.

This is only one of the reasons veterinary health checks are so important before flights.

Please make sure that your pet has been seen by a SAVC (South African Veterinary Council) registered veterinarian. A veterinary health certificate is ONLY allowed to be signed by a registered vet that has physically done a health examination on your pet. This is for the safety of your pet.

Yesterday I had a patient that presented with severe pain. The owners suspected that she was run over. She could not eat or move.
Upon clinical examination I found SEVERE abdominal distention and pain.
Further examination on the ultrasound showed that the uterus was filled with fluid. The xray also revealed that there was fluid in the abdomen.
She was diagnosed with a closed pyometra (infection of the uterus).
During her emergency surgery it was clear that her uterus has already burst and her abdomen was filled with pus and her intestines very irritated.
She is now stable and eating and getting stronger. This is a picture of the uterus that was filled with pus that was removed.
It really is wise to sterilise. Especially when your doggies are in transit for so long. I can recommend that it would be best to sterilise your animals before letting them fly. Your private veterinarian can be contacted to do so.

TOP TIP

WHAT TO PUT INTO THE CRATES?
- soft bedding
- no toys/harnesses etc. This can be swallowed and cause a foreign body.
- doggies love a familiar smell as can be seen in the photo. An owner’s t-shirt is always welcome and they can smell the owner’s scent. Each dog has one 🤗

Cat crate training video 2
This is the very first day. The main idea is to allow the cat to enter and exit by themselves and see and smell the crate for a few days before taking the next step. Cats are super sensitive and a slow approach gives the best results.
I will post as the training progresses.

*MEASURING your pet* NB!!!

On our website under the “get a quote” we have a clear description on how to measure your pet accurately.

Airlines will need photos of your pet next to and in the crate before they will be approved to fly.

The owners in this case did not know how to measure but we could quickly help our client as we realised their measurements were not done according to the IATA approved standards. Although it took some crisis-management the furbaby still flew out and our on-hand crates were very handy.

Please note that the plastic crate is too small. Please also note that the wooden crate was used for the photos and was then prepared with a soft bed and blankets.

This furbaby had a comfortable flight in the bigger crate and was cleared to fly that same day 🤗

Morning ALL!
Remember if your furbaby is going to Australia, and you get a microchip verification done pre rabies titre test at SA state vet, you only need to do 10 days quarantine 🤗 This not only saves money but your family will be together MUCH sooner!!!!
