⁉️ So why do dogs bark? Good question, right ⁉️
Various reasons for why dogs bark, let's have a look: ✅
- excitement: you'll hear a high pitched bark. For example: when you come home from work or the dog hears your keys opening the door
- attention: your dog will bark at you because they are hungry or want to go walking. Don't allow your dog to do this because he's training you instead of you training him.
- bored: if you don't go out with your dog, he'll be bored. So make sure he has plenty to do, either playtime with you, other dog friends, doing some brain games, or anything to keep him occupied.
- reactive or surprised: this will be higher pitched in response to being surprised, usually just one bark. Could happen when you walk up to a dog that was not paying attention
- because your dog is in pain
- anxiety, fear or territorial: if a stranger is approaching you, your dog might bark, it's usually a much deeper bark and even a growling noise might arise to alert you to upcoming danger. Your dog's body language would be much stiffer

Dog Training 101: How To Raise a Playful Puppy To Become an Eager-To-Please Soulmate For Life

❓ How can you tell your puppy is being playful instead of aggressive ❓
Every dog plays in a different way, some play very rough while others take a more easy approach. This usually depends on the breed of the dog, their age and temperament. Therefore I can't possibly put a definition on what a playful puppy looks like, but I can give you some pointers.
So here we go, what are the signs of play? ✅
- dogs always give off signals of play. You just have to watch closely to see them
- the play bow is the most recognizable sign of them all. If your pup's butt goes up in the air and his head down to the ground, you know it's all good
- no stiffness in his body, a playful puppy will have a loose body posture
- anything that's high pitch is usually a good thing, a sign of excitement (high pitch barking or growling)
And what are the signs of aggressive behavior? ❌
- if your puppy is barking or growling with a very deep toned voice, you better watch out and take him out of that situation immediately
- you all know when people give each other a death stare, right? Well, puppies can do the same thing. If they stare straight at another dog and don't flinch, you know something's up
- a stiff body posture
- Lunging forward in an aggressive manner
One very important tip from me: tail wagging is not necessarily a good thing! So you always have to watch the dog's body language.

So dog park or no dog park for your puppy ❓
I get asked this question so many times and I want to give you guys a proper answer on this topic 😉
The answer is simple. Do you have any knowledge on dog behavior or dog interaction?
If not, stay away from the dog park. If you do, great, you're in!
Why do I say this? Because it's so important to be able to read the conversation between dogs. So when you let your dog enter the dog park, be constantly aware of all the signs the dogs are giving. 🚫⛔️
Try to read them as good as you can. If you feel playtime will end up in a disaster for your dog, get out immediately. If all goes well, have a great time in there! 😁

DID YOU KNOW ❓
We all know that a dog's smell is developed way better than how humans smell the world.
But did you know that a dog's hearing is 4 times more sensitive than ours? Everything we can hear at 20 feet, they can hear at 80 feet.
They can also hear higher-frequency sounds. So when your dogs looks up all of a sudden when you didn't hear anything. Now you know why 😉
And what about the head tilts.. They are the cutest, right?! 🥰 Dogs do this to locate where the sound is coming from.
To the contrary, their sense of taste is much less developed than ours.
They have a sixth of the number of taste buds that humans have. That's why a dog will eat something rotten and enjoy his meal.
And even more exciting to know.. A dog's nose is like a human fingerprint, they all have a unique pattern!

I have an interesting read for you guys about the evolution of your dogs cutest puppy eyes! 😊
They evolved the eye muscles in order to be able to communicate better with us humans.
Dr Kaminski said: "The evidence is compelling that dogs developed a muscle to raise the inner eyebrow after they were domesticated from wolves.
Dogs and wolves are alike but not when it comes to the cute puppy eyes ❗️

"WATCH THE DOG, NOT THE DISH !"
What about feeding time? 🦴
It's very important to watch your puppy's body condition rather than portion sizes ❗️
Not every puppy needs the same amount of food. It depends on individual metabolism and body type.
Nutritional requirements are different from one dog to another.
In essence, a puppy will need three meals a day, just like people. But when they get older you can slowly fade out the lunch break.
If you are training your puppy and using lots of treats (as you should!), take this into consideration when feeding 💡
Otherwise, your puppy might become a little too fat if your not looking closely 🙊

SOME PUPPIES ARE BORN GREEN! 💚
Say whattttt???
Yeah, you read this right. GREEN..
It usually happens in light-colored litters. There is a green pigment (Biliverdin) that can be found in a dog’s placenta.
As a consequence a light-haired puppy can get stained by this pigment.
But no need to worry if you are the one getting the Shrek-like puppy! 🟢
This staining of the fur is luckily not permanent and will subside a few weeks later.

Alright, I have a confession to make! 😲
My dogs don’t know any special tricks (apart from giving their paw).. Why ❓
Because for me it’s not necessary to show off with a book of tricks 🤷‍♀️
I’d rather have my dogs under control and behaving at every moment of the day, rather than rolling over or jumping through hoops ✅
Also, the Ridgeback is not necessarily a breed that’s very good at performing circus tricks 😅
Other breeds like the Border Collie or the Golden Retriever are way better at this stuff. We all have our own strengths, right ⁉️
