ARNOLD KIVÁGÓ

IPO/IGP/FMBB WORLD CHAMPION

I have been working with dogs for 36 years. As a kid, I really wanted a dog. I watched every dog movie. I read all the professional literature. At the age of 13, my parents felt like I was already responsible enough to have a dog. My first dog was a German Shepherd bitch. Suzy and I went to a nearby dog school. It was a very good community. They loved dog sports there with me, even with the training methods of the time. The head of the dog school became my second father, and even my first girlfriend came out of this community. Of course, the methods of sports do***ng and the sport itself are constantly evolving and changing. The rules have also changed over time. We also have to keep up with the changes …

My favorite sport is the IGP (Internationale Gebrauchshundeprüfung). This sport basically imitates and copies the work of police dogs. There is a tracking, obedience and protection work sector. To be successful, it is essential to be good in all three phases. I think the IGP is the king of dog sports. In other sports, 2 things are usually enough to make a dog good. But here in IGP we also need 3-4 things, e.g. aggression, but also obedience and excellent sense of smell. Confidence and their balance are important. The dog cannot bite for no reason. It is not enough for the dog to “just” perform the tasks. He has to do all this happily and wagging his tail. Judges also evaluate accuracy, concentration, strength, harmony and speed.

Then over the years I also became a member of the national team with 3 dogs. I was a Hungarian champion several times. At the FMBB World Championships, I was already on all three stages of the podium. My current dog, Lito is 9 years old, I have been racing with him for 5 years.
